Parc de la Tete d'Or (Lyon, France)

The Parc de la Tete d'Or is an urban park in Lyon , one of the largest in France . The park is open at 1857 while the work is not completed. It is an exact contemporary of Central Park in New York , created the same year. The park is enriched with many large buildings such as greenhouses in 1865, the velodrome , the warden cabin and cottage in 1894 , closing in 1896 , greenhouses collection in 1899, the memorial of the island between the Swans 1914 and 1930 or the new rose between 1961 and 1964 . Now managed by the city of Lyon and the true heart of the town, the park offers 117 acres of a vast natural area in the heart of the city. It is reached by eight inputs , the latter having been opened in 2009 , at the esplanade of the Cité Internationale . Various events , movies, theater , exhibitions or other make it a mecca for Lyon culture. The park is a favorite setting for wedding photos : the best days we came across many couples who come to be photographed.

In order to go Parc de la Tete d'Or, take off at the station "Parc Tete d'Or-Duquesne" or "Parc Tete d'Or-Churchill"

If you get off the station Parc Tete d'Or-Churchill, you can see this monument. Back of this monument, you can find out a huge door. That door is the park's door. Enter the door!

If you enter the park, you can see a big lake. Combination of blue and green was very nice. Especially, the color of lake was very beautiful.

A sixteen- acre lake is located in the park. It currently receives its water by bailing into the water of the Rhone. In the northern part of the lake emerge two wooded islands , the island of Tamaris, only accessible by boat, the island on which the memory is erected a memorial in the shape of a quadrilateral . Formerly known as Swan Island , it has been transformed in terms of the Lyon architect Tony Garnier and the sculptor Jean- Baptiste Larrivé Grand Prix de Rome in 1904, to honor the soldiers who died in battle. The names of the soldiers are engraved on the outer sides of the walls. These engravings were renovated after 2003. An underground corridor provides access to the island , the staircase that leads to literally diving in the lake. On the shores of the lake there are two other "islands" that are not part of the lake . The Gandhi and gateways exotic and picturesque island style . An unnamed island is formed by the wooded site velodrome and Belvedere : a stretch of water makes it passable on one side by a rock bridge tower , the other by the Swiss Bridge - Historic Covered Bridge remarkably.

I walked Parc de la Tete d'Or because I like walking.

There is a huge lawn with trees. You can feel comfortable. Many people took a rest in this lawn.

There are zoo, forest, and botany etc. Zoo, forest, and botany which are located in Parc de la Tete d'Or are free.

The zoo was established in conjunction with the park. At first, it was a farm for educational purposes following the guidelines provided by the State, with some local wildlife, but little by little, facilities multiply to accommodate new residents and the park turns into a real zoo.

The zoo is now home to animals from around the world. It extends over 6 hectares. Scientific collaboration reunites long at the National Veterinary School of Lyon.
