I watched Abstract: The Art of Design's episode on Paula Scher. I like how the Pentagram group is more like a group of friends instead of having a set hierarchy (with a boss at the top) like in a traditional workplace. I didn't think about the effect the switch to digital had on designers in the 90s. After the switch to digital in the late 90s, Paula Scher began to miss painting fonts by hand, or using art supplies to design fonts, which is why she decided to pick up painting as a hobby. I would assume that switching to digital design was tough for the veteran artists at the time. I've seen some of Scher's designs before, but I never knew they were hers. I enjoyed watching this documentary. It was very insightful. Paula Scher is an icon.

I presented my digital interface and received positive feedback. Some things I can do to improve my project would be to add a notes option for games (for those who forget what they were doing), replace the add/added buttons on the Discover page with plus and check icons, and add a gradient background to each page to spice things up a bit.

I had my one-on-one meeting and received feedback. Since I had most of my digital interface done, I only had to make a few changes, which were to add the "add game" button back to the taskbar, get rid of the "not bought" section of the backlog, round the corners of the images, add filter/sort options to the discover page, move the star icon to the top right corner of the image, and make the favorite icons a bit smaller.

I got feedback on my concept for my digital interface. Some things I can do to improve it are to optimize my search + add pages (I can try to combine them), include a floating "add" page (like on Twitter - you can post from wherever), and switch the profile + favorites buttons on the taskbar. We also tried to design an app as a group in about 30 minutes. My group decided on a Tamagochi app. Unfortunately, we did not get too far.

Today we followed a Figma tutorial. Figma isn't that hard to use in my opinion. I learned how to install plugins for the software that can be used in my designs. Figma uses masking and groups like how Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator do. When I work on my digital interface, I need to make sure I use grids and align things properly.

I presented my physical application. It was a candy tin. I think it went well. The dots I added over the pattern added texture to the design. I should make the dots larger since it's hard to see in the image.

We learned about digital interfaces and went over the requirements for our next project. Since most individuals use mobile phones or tablets as their main devices, UX and UI designers need to make sure that their application designs are adapted to mobile devices/mobile friendly. When designing our digital interfaces, we should start with the home page and then move on to other sections. "Global" utilities and familiar words and icons should be used. The interface's theme should be consistent at all times.

I presented my logo today. Next steps: I can add a border to the design (to make it seem like the text is on something). I can also add something to the center of the flower, like a smiley face. One of the other font options I used in one of the drafts would be better for this concept.

We went over the requirements for the next project, our physical application. We learned about how some artists'/designers' work could be translated to physical items such as plushies or clothing. For my project, I'd like to make a design for a wrapper (maybe food?).

My logo would benefit from a different font. I should pick one that most reminds me of flowers and what they represent. I should also change the kerning since "cosmos" is a much shorter word than "flower shop." Since I have two layers of flowers, the top layer should be a lighter color than the bottom layer.

I enjoyed seeing my classmates' IDM logos. They are all so talented! The diversity in logo designs was very nice to see. We also started an Illustrator workshop. It's cool how much you can do in it. It's actually simple to give your shapes a 3D effect.

Today I presented my IDM logo. I feel like it went well. For a next draft I should experiment with moving the letters closer together so that the edges/white spots touch. I should also fix the gradient so that the darker color isn't concentrated in the center of the shape.

We got to do some creative exercises in groups. Coming up with the concept of a logo on the spot can be somewhat hard. Collaborating with others is fun. I liked the comic activity.

Today's lecture was on logos and logo design. There are different kinds of logo designs, such as retro, modern, "tech", etc. When designing a logo, I need to be aware of who my target audience is.
