the main type of wormhole we use for travel is the Lorentzian traversable wormhole, due to it being less taxing on our components, but it is technically possible (although ill-advised) to travel any wormhole sporting an Einstein-Rosen bridge.

due to the immense aggregation of multiply oppositional forces that an object would be subject to inside the wormhole, a lot of auxiliary functions are disabled, so it's a bit like driving with your eyes closed, to put a human analogy to it. more accurately, it's like shooting an arrow while looking through a pinhole, because we cannot perform any maneuvers or major configurational changes whilst within the wormhole, so one must start disabling auxiliary functions while still relatively far from the event horizon. one must then align oneself to exactly the correct position relative to the mouth (event horizon) of the wormhole at exactly the correct speed with the remaining functionality, and then finish readying oneself for transit, because once you've reached that location you've only a small amount of time until you're past the caustic and into the throat, at which point you are a literal sitting duck.

there are other considerations such as maintaining life support for crew and field generation to (attempt to) ensure that the throat won't collapse on us while we're still inside of it, but these are all quite complex and particularly difficult to accurately format on your...questionably built.. site, so.

well, the concept of wormholes has been around since about 1916, but wormholes as we know them now had only been theorised about twenty years later. it wasn't until about the late 3000s that humans were finally able to prove the theory, and since then only about a couple hundred years that we've been able to use them in the way we do now. it stands to reason that there are likely much greater applications of wormholes that our technology or imagination simply fails to see, and some might even argue that our current application of wormholes is a net negative, since it has exponentially increased our access to resources which are usually gathered at the expense of the prior ecologies surrounding said resource and resulting in mass ecological destruction. it might also be said that increased access to seemingly infinite (though logically reasoned to be finite) resources has made this civilization much more complacent to the destruction it causes, and overall much less motivated to take actions that might preserve these ecosystems.

that being said, the age of space exploration is upon us, and it is exciting to see and think about all the great things that from this discovery might arise!

@ oa: i understand the historical importance; the reason space-faring vessels can't partake in the tradition is due to our recycled air systems. furry animals shed at a rate that no modern cycler can accommodate, and risks both being an irritant to the humans aboard as well as a potential fire risk.

@ peri: if you wanna risk blowing yourself up by slowly adding more and more loose cat fur into your air recycling, be my guest lol, do us all a favour

I wanted to bring my cat on an expedition but if people are throwing bricks I’m going to have to rethink that.

not to harsh your vibe but unfortunately even without the brick throwing, it's too hazardous to bring non-specimen creatures on any expedition.

you might be able to arrange something with a commercial transporter, though.
