Hi. I need to finish editing the chapter for NBTLYG — there are a couple things I’m adding to it, so I’m gonna post tomorrow, but here’s a little tease for you until then. 🫶🏼

NGL I’m in the same boat. I’m not mad at him for leaving and doing what’s best for him.

But at the same time we did go a very long period thinking this all happened because of one thing when in fact it wasn’t. And along the way our ship has felt like it was being scuttled one episode after another.

There’s a show runner who went from much loved to becoming notorious for baiting, kind of lying and just straight up not delivering. (Which I know he is not to blame for this particular pain point.)

Then we get told to trust the process and…what? What did we get? What are we getting?

If someone could figure out how to ask that in the nicest way possible that would be great!

So like........ can someone ask Jesse what he meant by "trust the process"?

I really like this theory. It’s got the creative pizzaz that’s been sorely lacking in the doom and gloom season we’ve been handed. I would watch again for this plot.

I also have this sad little theory that if Jay really is avoiding calling home, that maybe it’s because he’s afraid that A. Hearing Hailey will break his will power to stick it out.

Or B. (Which I hope not but at the rate the writers are going it wouldn’t surprise) he’s avoiding it because of her proximity to Voight. Like he can’t achieve a complete break because as long as Hailey is with Intelligence, Voight will always be a part of their lives. Which if Tracy is leaving, that would be a good catalyst too. Her marriage and her mental health.

If you have the chance, how would you fix the mess the show made? (pretending this is Tracy's last season too)

Honestly, at this point, I'm not sure. A few weeks ago there was a theory floating around that Sean was behind the lack of communication somehow. And that's something they could do, so let's go with it.

In 10x04, Hailey made it seem like the lack of communication to that point was expected. And to be honest, it would be. Networks can take a while to set up, and until they are, what little connectivity is had (SAT phones and such) is prioritized for the work. We also know that Sean got obsessed pretty quick, so maybe, a little later, when Hailey cloned his phone, he cloned hers. And he, or someone he's connected with, has been screwing things up ever since.

It makes sense in some ways that he has connections somewhere; that's likely a techie. I don't know how else he'd be able to get not only Trudy's home number (Most first responders, in my experience, are told not to list their phone numbers) but also Hailey's personal cell. And maybe it extends further. He could have found a way to monitor her emails, and even her snail mail, at least at the apartment. Sean could still be pulling those strings from behind bars.

I'd have someone Jay was working with in Bolivia be home on leave and drop Hailey a letter in person at the district. In it is Jay asking what the hell is going on, only nicer and a little more self-deprecating because he knows Hailey has a right to be hurt). He'd explain his side of things, the unanswered calls, texts and emails, to Hailey's great confusion. He'd also include the number of a burner phone picked up in Bolivia because maybe, maybe something got screwed up with his.

Suspicions raised, Hailey also goes and gets a burner and calls the number. Badabing Badaboom, Upstead is back in touch. But they're on high alert, so Hailey's still acting the part of the wounded left behind in public.

In the finale, I'd have Hailey get hurt. Whether that's kidnapped or just injured, that brings Jay home. Either to help find her, or just a hospital reunion. If it is Tracy's last season, maybe they'll go off and establish their own contracting company that offers basically the services that Jay is doing now in Bolivia.

Kind of feels like they’re trying to make us turn on Jay to justify their poor writing. As if that’s not so disrespectful to a beloved character who was on the show for 10 years. Like it doesn’t come at the expense of Hailey’s other half.

We’ve already been burned and now they’re pouring salt on the wound.

Just when I think I’m to the point where I can ignore what happens on this show after not having watched a single ep since season 9 outside of reading the occasional episode summary, that I was past feeling so low about my ship, they pull this shit.

I’m so disappointed in the writers and in Gwen for doing this and for falling into the exact same pitfall of every other tv writer being incapable of writing an offscreen relationship.

I think it hurts because I still haven’t given up hope that maybe the season will end with Hailey taking a leave of absence to go see him or for him to take leave too and they meet up. Hope that he will FINALLY talk to his wife. Because this is so out of character for Jay Halstead and the 10 years of work JSL has put into this character.

I’m always going to love the fic because the fandom writers are the only people competent enough to give these two what they deserve. But the show and its writers leave so much to be desired and I’m glad I gave up on watching it before it even started.

Fingers still crossed for a turn around, but damn the stress is just not worth watching.

Youd think it'd be fine and that you can figure out which one a person is talking about from context but trust me a good percentage of the time you cannot. And often the person will try to differentiate them by clarifying they meant "Potato chips" only for them to realise a second later that both chips are made from potatoes
