Y'know I really do have absolutely no idea whether Tavvy's crush on Gamzee is something that will ever be brought up for real rather than just not-so-subtly prodded at every once in a while. Like the other kids have weird romantic / sexual fixations but all of those fall into 'so symbolic they'll only come up as a metaphorical reocurring theme with the character and solved non-literally via similar means' but Tavvy AND Gamzee have not only a far more heavy emphasis on the object of fixation as a character specifically and not just the concept they represent but also a very direct reference to the topic of attraction between the two because of John asking whether Gamzee had been touching him, so there should be some kind of payoff for that, but just, in what way?? How??

What do you think the significance is of the three mothers/fathers thing is for Yiffy/Tavvy respectively?

Obviously there’s something to the Jesus/Antichrist imagery there, with two of each of the three parents being destroyer or creator classes: (Sylph (Kanaya) + Witch (Jade) / Bard (Gamzee) + Prince (Dirk)) but I’d like to hear your take.

There’s gotta be something to the fact that two of these figures are a primary parents’ lover (Kanaya & Rose, Dirk & Jake) similar to a Mary and Joseph thing with a strained relation to the kid, but I can’t fully grasp it. Though this would have Kanaya associated with Joseph, rather than the Virgin Mary, which feels like an unusual reversal of roles, but I can still sort of see it, especially with Yiffy’s role in ‘breaking’ what’s canon.

There’s also the argument that Gamzee and Kanaya are in the same “divine third party” roles, that would make them analogous to the place of God in the creation of the children, though I don’t know how it would work with Kanaya being unaware of Yiffy’s birth imo.

There’s also the idea of the three parents falling into troll norms, rather than human ones, which could fit into your idea that Tavvy isn’t fully human. Clearly Yiffy isn’t fully human, with her dog dna from Jade, but that’s a different matter entirely.

I’ve got thoughts, but I’m not exactly sure what to do with it all.

Sorry for the long ask, I’ve been a big fan of your analysis for a while! Feel no pressure to respond to this.

Glad to hear you like the analysis *bashful hand wave*, and I enjoy asks of all shapes and sizes so there is no need for sorries, though it takes me a while to get myself to focus on many specific topics when asked.

But I find myself a little confused with what you're working from, which is the 3 parents and the characters you're referring to? Because you include Kanaya with Yiffy's here despite their third parent pretty explicitly being Dave. I also think when comparing Yiffy's parental situation to the other kids it's best to view them as having 1 guardian in comparison to Harry's 1 and a half (Roxy the 1 and John the half since John left a while after), Vrissy's 2 and Tavvy's 3.

The significance of this is best shown with the context that a guardian is 'someone who watches over you' and therefore an audience, as the amount of parents each kid has can be equated to public perception. Tavvy has 3 and is famously known due to Jane's influence over Earth C, and Vrissy has 2, as she's well known as both the child of two gods (one of which is responsible for the Mothergrub) and as the descendant of another game player recounted to kids in school. Harry is known but to a lesser degree, since 'Harry Anderson' isn't exactly any sort of notable historical figure and neither John or Roxy are intent on meddling in public affairs. Then we have Yiffy, who is practically non-existent, to the point that even being witnessed by the public marks their symbolic 'birth'. When you count Yiffy as having 3, you suddenly lose that significance. There's also the fact you could fit other adults into a trio too, like Harry has John, Roxy and Calliope (they're in the family pictures so why not), and you could consider Vriska to be Vrissy's 3rd parent.

I agree the adults fit into religious roles, but so far I've found it works best to equate indiviual characters to individual religious figures without any extreme repetition (some is fine). Tavvy is definitely Jesus, as Gamzee talks about using him as a sacrificial lamb, and in Meat 39 before bringing up 'combat, philosophy, life, love' (same phrase used to describe Gamzee's training of Tavvy) Jake shouts 'Jesus christopher CLOWNCOCK dirk!' and clowncock = codpiece = Tavvy, aka Jesus christopher. Jane, Tavvy's parent, is God as I've discussed before and there's a comparison between Jake and Noah on 193 when Jane says he's 'the only loyal one left' whilst viewing Roxy's house (Jerusalem), which is currently filled with traitors who killed the figurehead of Earth C's central religion. Kanaya = Mary and Rose = Joseph also works, though not with Yiffy. The most important part of Mary's symbolism is immaculate conception, and insofar that Kanaya is essentially the Mothergrub herself, the author (who is also god) placing Vriska's second-coming within it once again makes her Mary.

Though with this interpretation you end up with Vrissy as Jesus too, this is entirely on purpose because of the 'redemption arc' theme consistent among all of the kids. A 'redemption arc' is a child used to redeem an adult, e.g. Gamzee and Tavvy. Jesus's status as 'the son' and God's as 'the father' mark them as child and adult regardless of actual age, and Jesus is used as a tool to redeem all of humanity from their sins. Adherence to his purpose as a 'redemption arc' for Gamzee is what makes Tavvy the christ figure, and Yiffy the antichrist figure.

They also might be a fallen angel alongside that, since they're a symbolic child (meaning they've fallen to earth) and they have their ears (wings) clipped. The most notable fallen angel is Lucifer, so you could try to link those two, but I think Dirk fits him better since he literally left Candy (Heaven) via a fall and he's Meat's 'ruler' in a sense. Yiffy still gets Jesus parallels anyway, as expected. The canon vs non-canon theme of Meat and Candy alongside the absence of any references to Jesus (or children) in Meat compared to Candy, which is full of them, makes them analogous to the Old Testament and New Testament (other examples of this being a case include his rant prompted by Yiffy's reveal in which he calls Meat an epic creation story and Candy a stupid timeline focused on heart-to-hearts and repaired relationships). Yiffy's written into existence by Rose, an author (symbolically of the New Testament, though I'm not sure if she's anyone specific), and they're only then made real by people's belief in them, which also seems like a comparison to religion in general besides Jesus himself.

This doesn't give me solid answer for Jade's role, however, and if characteristics of Jesus are being split among the Omega kids (Tavvy = redemption of humanity, Vrissy = immaculate conception, Yiffy = written into existence) then I'm also missing something for Harry. When it comes to those two I'm just not well read enough to make any immediate connections

No you are absolutely rite. I really don't think it's crazy at all to view Tavvy as 'the dirkjake kid' because I imagine if there were ever to be a 'dirkjake kid' they'd be the janejake kid that Dirk somehow got custody of in the divorce. And Tavvy literally just got shipped off to Meat right after his parents tried to kill each other so I'd say we've got the ideal setup
