The HS CODE, also known as the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System or the Harmonized System, is an international standard for classifying trade in goods around the world. The system was first introduced in 1988 and is now supported by the World Customs Organization. The HS Convention was signed in 1983 and has more than 205 members. As a signatory, all countries agree to categorize their HS laws and taxes according to their designated HS sectors. The merger aims to facilitate world trade by creating common categories to classify different types of products. HTS Codes structure? The US and Global HS Regulations fall into four categories. See the green number in the chart:

1. Chapter: There are 21 different sections divided into Chapter 96. The main sections are Chapter 77 for future use, Chapters 98 and 99 restricted for future use. States and Article 99, Special Laws Limiting Interim Change. In the example above, the category selected is 09 for "Coffee, Tea, Mate and Spices". 2. Heading: In all cases, the title indicates a specific area. In HTS Search , 01 refers to coffee. 3. Sub-heading: The last two digits of the Harmonized International Code are more detailed and describe the product's sub-parts. For example, caffeinated coffee beans are 0901.21, but decaffeinated beans are 0901.22. By the way, instant coffee belongs to a completely different category - 21 for other commercial coffees. 4. Extra digits: Countries can use an additional 2-4 to categorize a particular country. For example, the US Harmonized System (HS) Codes is based on a decimal number called the number in Table B. 0050 in the above example is used for contaminated coffee. Since these numbers are unique, another country's decaffeinated organic coffee starts with the same 6 numbers, but the final four numbers may differ. Back to top US HS and HTS codes In the United States, exports and imports follow the numbering system: The United States Standard (HTS-US) is used to classify imported goods. Use this number to enter and send documents electronically. Number B is used in the table to categorize sold products. Use this number to process export and EEI documents. As a signatory to the HS Convention, the United States applies a six-digit HS classification. However, for taxes and statistics, some countries violate the classification by adding 1-4 after six. These numbers are known as the Standard Ordering Standards (HTS). Find and download Harmonized System (HS) Codes There are 21 system components - this is the highest cost classification.
