thinking about that post of people assuming ao3 has an algorithm and also about how bonkers persistent the view is that ao3 is social media lite. like with startling regularity I get comments saying something along the lines of "it's probably weird to comment on a fic this old--" no it isn't!!!! this is an archive I am literally just assuming you searched for a selection of specific tags or sorted by kudos or looked back on my pseud or any other number of completely normal ways to use an archive site ?? kill the tiktok ghost in your brain and comment on old stuff it's NOT weird

Why do people need subtitles to watch a show in English? I don't get it. What is wrong with the ears of young people?

Stencil-like art of Toomaj Salehi, a rapper who was arrested after joining street protests in mid-September 2022. Red paint covers his eyes like a blindfold and he wears a necklace with what appears to be a bullet as a pendant. Behind him, the words FREE TOOMAJ are stamped repeatedly. Toomaj has since been denied medical care and proper legal representation.

The Iranian Regime is going to execute rapper Toomaj Salehi for supporting protests of Jina Amini’s murder by the regime in his songs.
Iranian activist Elica Le Bon says, “Iranians in the diaspora picked up on the fact that the regime tends not to execute people who become known to the international community. We have seen many examples of prisoners that were either released on bail or had their sentences commuted through our “say their names to save their lives” campaign on social media, using hashtags to garner attention for their causes, and even before social media existed, through getting the stories of political prisoners to international media outlets. Once reported on, and once the eyes shift to the regime and the reality of its pending brutality, realizing that the action is not worth the repercussions, we have seen them back down and not execute. For that reason, this is part of an urgent campaign for readers to talk about Toomaj as much as you can, using the hashtag #FreeToomaj or #ToomajSalehi. Every comment makes a difference, and if we were wrong, what did we lose by trying?”

No one is discrediting the student protests. I myself am a student who is partaking in largely student-coordinated protests, drives, campaigns… but I also understand that we are largely missing the point if coverage of these protests overshadow what they are actually protesting for—the atrocities committed on Palestinians every single day. As the western buzz around this genocide gets more and more coverage, the coverage of the genocide itself sharply declines. It’s true and I see it every single day. Things are not being reported with the precision and diligence with which they should be.

This a a reminder to not fall victim to the sunk-cost fallacy. Just because you invested time and energy into something, does not mean you should indefinitely waste more time and energy on it, if you decide it’s not what you want anymore. This goes for anything, from books, to relationships, to jobs, to hobbies, etc.
If it’s not serving you anymore, move on.

When I was younger and researching the autism diagnosis criteria and symptoms, I thought “oh I couldn’t POSSIBLY be autistic.” Because when I read “takes everything literally” I thought it literally meant EVERYTHING and I was like “I don’t take EVERYTHING literally, just most things!” And I just realized the other day that it didn’t actually mean EVERYTHING and that was an overstatement.

German is the same as Polish in that regard. We use diminutives to denote cuteness/smallness, they can also be friendly (not necessarily by calling a person them, but by using them in conversation like Czy chciałbyś spróbować szyneczki? (Would you like to try some "little ham"? - szynka = normal ham, szyneczka = little ham, which doesn't actually have to be small, it's just to be cute/friendly, szyneczki is the genitive case as Polish has declension - again like German but we have more cases)) or yes, sarcastic.
Some people find that friendly/cute use of them annoying though and it's very funny to see them being annoyed on twitter about that.
What's more, some people use diminutives a lot, not even trying to be cute, they just have that habit... to the further annoyance of diminutive haters.
Diminutives are very popular in Poland (you can make them out of most nouns, but also numerals, adjectives and adverbs even), and the city I live in is the capital of diminutives, we use them the most out of all Poles and haters gonna hate.
It is a real tragedy that English does not have a diminutive suffix. There is no way to properly translate that from Dutch to English and it's tragic because in many cases the diminutive adds a layer of meaning that you can only translate with like a dozen extra words

If you migrate from Wattpad to Ao3....
I'm fucking begging you to actually tag your works properly AND DO NOT CENSOR WHAT YOU WRITE OR TAG !!! Terms like "unalive" "sewer slide" and other censored terms are NOT welcome here, and you wont be punished by the algorithm for talking about death and blood and stuff BECAUSE THERES IS NO ALGORITHM ! Also making place holders IS NOT ALLOWED BY AO3 TOS. It just clogs up the archive for nothing, if you do this, thats a sure way to get your stuff reported. Please learn how Ao3 works, its nothing like Wattpad.
