Saw a sibling poll and needed to expand it because I fit, like. Mid youngest, youngest in theory only child in practice, and adopted. And I think they all have their own unique parts in the sibling ecosystem.
So today I got a rather unkind comment on AO3 (one could call it hate), but I believe it to be a bot for several reasons:
Guest account, but username attached
Said username exists but person is unlikely to be reading Tolkien fic (according to their Tumblr and AO3, they are in other fandoms)
Two grammatically correct sentences
Super generic text that could apply to any fic:
"I've seen better fanfiction written by a toddler. Get it together!"
I'm curious, did anyone else get comments like this? Let me know.
And to those who have gotten rude comments and are now worried/upset: Maybe it was just a bot too. Either way: You're awesome for putting your writing out there for others to enjoy and you don't deserve to get rude comments for it. If you want feel free to message me to compare cases and discuss details :)
So my friend is a part of this lovely podcast - it's cowboys in Space, it's be gay do crimes, it's anti-caplitalism - what more could you want?! I know this blog was/is mostly LMK coded and someday I'll write again for it, but I'm working on some fic about space cowboys I'll be dropping soon, and I'd love it if some of yall joined me in this Amazing journey!!!!
The show is an anthology too, so you can mostly jump in about anywhere.

I think part of it too is the idea drilled into some kids (and now adults) that everything you do is on the internet forever? And there's such a fear of being held against your own past too, even if you're expressing joy because "what if that art I liked or story I commented on is branded as problematic later?" And then you get buried under a mountain of people digging into anything and everything they can find to turn you into a "bad" person too.
What's killing comments in fandom?
The decline of comment culture is something I talk about a lot, however, I didn't expect a personal rant about the subject to blow up into a 20k+ note post.
However, that same post blowing up has completely validated my theory as to exactly WHY people have stopped leaving comments.
This is a pseudo-hologram obtained using the so-called Pepper's ghost technique.
“Pepper’s Ghost” is a simple optical effect that has been in use since the late 1800s and you can even try it yourself at home.

Pepper's Ghost is an optical illusion technique used in theater and visual effects to create ghostly apparitions.
It involves reflecting an image of a person or object off a transparent surface, such as glass or acrylic, to make it appear as if it's in the same space as live performers or real objects.
This illusion is achieved through careful lighting and positioning of the reflective surface, creating a seamless integration of the reflected image with the physical environment.
i know people will say its not perfect and etc etc but the point isn't how convincing it is now, its how fast it evolved to this point. imperfections will be ironed out and the internet the internet is a warzone
I hate that I’m always trying to find cool biology themed stuff to wear but all the “nature inspired” clothing companies just have like two crossed arrows or a minimalistic mountain on a sweatshirt. Fucking lame, that’s barely even nature-adjacent. Put the life cycle of a salamander on a jacket, put hyena skeleton patterns on leggings, put a damn field guide of birds of prey on a peacoat and THEN you can have my money. Do NOT give me a shirt with a leaf on it that says “stay wild” or some bullshit I would much prefer clothing that broadcasts to everyone around me how many teeth an adult Jaguar has or how some pitcher plants can catch and digest rats.
The masculine urge to become a mountain man. Only come off the mountain twice a year to get supplies. Farm and harvest and hunt and build everything else. Talk to myself constantly. Stop coming into town for a few years after the age of 76. The sheriff finally comes up to check on me and finds the door to my shack wide open and my skeletonized body lying in bed, tucked up under the covers. They all forgot my name so they just put ‘Mountain Man’ on my tombstone. Shack left to decay but I’m not quite done having fun. My ghost lures lost hikers in and makes them keep me company. They come off the mountain rambling about the crazy old man in the hand hewn log cabin with fire in his eyes and leaves on the floor. I was alone in life but I don’t want to be lonely in death.
