Howdy. I'm going to just make an actual post for tumblr. My friends and I are creating a horror comedy podcast about three custodians who go around cleaning haunted buildings. We already have an amazing start and are now in the process of putting it all together! That's where we would like to extend the offer out to y'all. As of right now the project is volunteer based but we hope to someday be able to compensate people for their work. Right now it's a passion project I am my very small team are dumping our hearts, blood, sweat, tears, and even some teeth into.

F&S S2 Crowdfund: FINAL WEEK!

Well, detectives, here we are! The dawn of the final week. The finish line that marks that moment where we get to stop posting about the crowdfund (god I've copy-pasted that link so many times) draws near. The end is in sight. But first, we have ONE WEEK to push toward our goal. 

We are delighted and honored to say that we have raised 80% of our goal - at the time of this typing that means we are just under $6500 of our $8000 goal we set for this crowdfund. That means we have roughly $1500 to raise in 7 days. Will we make it? We don't know, and neither do you (unless you just found $1500 in a pocket when you were getting out your Spring clothes--no judgement, we WILL accept it!). We hope we'll make it across the line, but the only way we'll all be able to find out is if we spread the word. 

SO. If you haven't donated yet and are planning to, this is so very incredibly much The Time to do that--and get one of our fantastic rewards AND some episodes of audio drama! She is the only pilot capable enough to helm the UFRR's greatest mystery; Acheilus, an antiquated shark mecha from before The End. It is a time of peace; the bitterness from the Coalition of The Last Frontier's abandonment has long since diluted away in favor of lucrative trade deals from space - goods that could only benefit the UFRR's longevity underseas. It is a good deal, kind, even. Generous. But Lorelei cannot help but taste the tang of deceit between her teeth. The sickly stick of rot amplifies after she spots another shark mecha circling the edges of UFRR's water space. Sleek black and glinting metal - a convincing imitation of the UFRR's mechanics. My hands shake. Admiral Thetis was right about one other thing, too. I had been gone for a long time; I'd been gone for months. Months of an endless blue that pervaded my eyes, an infinitum of mouthless words, and moments to think and move as I pleased. I'd rediscovered creatures that hadn’t been seen in years, listened as whales called through, and laughed when other sharks circled Acheilus, trying to communicate. It might have been the closest thing to peace that I've ever felt.  Peace does not exist in the lion’s den— a name I've mocked HQ with —  instead, the oppressive nature of fear lies thick along the walls of the hull. Fear is every step you take, it is every beating heart, every conspired whisper. It exists within the hollows of my cells, in every ill-intended look cast my way. I am fear and they make me believe it.

How scary is the show? As a fellow Canadian and lover of ADs, Hi Nay has been on my radar for a while, but I've hesitated because I'm not generally a big fan of horror. I can handle some, but don't like being terrified. What level would you say the show is at, from "cosy listening" to "will give you nightmares"? Thanks! :)

I like to compare the scary levels of Hi Nay to that of the series Supernatural - the first three seasons are properly spooky, but then as it becomes more plot driven it's less straightforwardly scary and more horror fantasy.

In Hi Nay, we do some spooky sound effects here and there, but I don't think we'll give anyone nightmares~ I'd say, if you've listened to the Magnus Archives, that we're just a bit scarier than that SFX wise, but only for a couple of episodes. The scariest we get are Episode 1: Bulok (Rot), Episode 12: Pagbigti (Hanging), and Episode 25: Talikuran (Turn Your Back).

Each episode has extensive trigger warnings to help people decide what they can handle content-wise.

Most of the rest of the series isn't too spooky, though some may be conceptually scary. But I'd love to hear other listeners chime in as well about how spooky you all think Hi Nay is!

People call us cozy listening regardless of all this, but I think that's because of our characters 😊 They have a fantastic and compelling relationship, and they add a level of comedy and warmth that helps combat the scares.

Tl;dr It might help to listen to us in the daytime for some of our episodes, but the overall experience isn't just all scares, and I hope you get to listen and enjoy anyway!

Subtext is fun and funny to do and also a great way for me to communicate things that are very obvious to me but may not be for others; for example-

1) In Hi Nay episode 2, the cold ghost calls Mari a "foreign chit". This is in order to communicate to the audience that this creepy ghost man would absolutely have said a racial slur (without having to write one into the script)

2) In Hi Nay episode 21, I mentioned that a priest "no longer leered [...] at Sunday mass". This is to indicate that he was a creep who was eyeing up tween girls (which also contextualizes the particular brutality of his fate later in the story 🔪🦵🏻)

3) In Hi Nay episode 3, both Mari and Laura mention that they are into older women (and in Mari's case, older anyone). This was foreshadowing for their later romantic interests (with age differences between 11 years and 120+ years)
