I’m a firm believer in buying something you love even if you don’t have an occasion (yet) to wear it. The event will find you if you have the dress! It’s like you’re manifesting fashionable moments. Case in point, one of our fabric vendors showed me this gorgeous rainbow/animal print/sequin goodness several years ago and I fell in love. I didn’t have a client or a dress for it and there was only enough to make one gown. It was too amazing to let go, so I bought it knowing that the right wearer would find it. In December 2019, @khsomerville came in for a fitting and I happened to show her my find. She too fell in love, and we decided to make a super simple gown that showcases the fabric to its full effect. Enter the pandemic. For 2.5 years, the dress waited for its fitting. Kristina was asked to chair the @performingartshouston gala and needed a gown. The theme? Kaleidoscope. I’m not saying the dress created its destiny but I’m also not saying it. 😉 Lesson: buy clothes because you love them. The universe will conspire to make sure you get to showcase them. All you have to do is show up and make sure that @priscilla_dickson_photography takes your photo. #ThankYouForComingToMyTedTalk #customgown #buywhatyoulove https://instagr.am/p/CdYTS7iu3ky/

Sometimes, I pinch myself because we get to dress some of the loveliest women in the world for some of the best events in the world. It was an honor to be able to dress Christina as she chaired the @AlleyTheatre 75th anniversary ball this weekend! Even better? She's just as lovely a person too! #WeHavetheBestClients Special thanks as always to @priscilla_dickson_photography https://instagr.am/p/Cc2sXoCMn8o/

This week had to have been one of our craziest of the entire year. We had so many brides, gala chairs, and orders due in a single week that I honestly didn’t know how we were going to get it done. The team worked tirelessly (well, maybe they were tired but they kept the train going!). What makes it all worth it isseeing our wonderful clients in their custom creations. I so loved working with Maddi on her wedding gown. I was thrilled that it was floral and fun and exudes her personality and style. We couldn’t have asked for a kinder, funnier, or more beautiful bride. Here’s to many years of happiness, @whosyourmaddi_ ! https://instagr.am/p/CcvOCA3ON9W/

Heavy. Not the most poetic way to describe my feelings over the past several days. More likely than not, I'm not the only one. Waves of sadness and uncertainty about the state of the world and deep concern over the people of Ukraine are the new normal. When the world feels like it's on the brink of WWIII, posting about weddings and fashion seems so trivial and inconsequential. We're not in the middle of a war zone, but so many of us have connections to Ukraine either directly or through close friends. 6 degrees of separation in the modern world has quickly been reduced to 2. Knowing what to post and when to post is something I'm not going to claim to get right all the time. Many times during these types of crises, we have created a product to help raise money to support the cause. In this instance, I can't wrap my head around what we would do, and quite frankly, creating something would over-tax our team who is already working beyond capacity. What I will commit to doing is finding the helpers and sharing them and their stories with you in my stories. Some will be individuals or organizations that are making a difference and others will be ways and links where you can support financially if you are able. I have and will continue to personally contribute where I can. Sprinkled among these stories will be our client's weddings and other content that might seem frivolous. In posting these moments of joy or inspiration, I am in no way trying to diminish the enormity of what is happening. Rather, I look at it as a way to let evil, power-hungry dictators know that good will triumph over evil and that hate and fear will always lose to love and the strength of the human spirit. Acknowledging beauty and joy in the world is one way that I know to keep hope alive. I'd love to know how you are dealing with this ongoing crisis. Are there organizations that you know that are doing good work that I can share? Let me know here or in the comments! #StandWithUkraine https://instagr.am/p/CahWG-IAAS4/

Rosa Parks is a name that's probably familiar to many in America because she became the face of the Montgomery Bus Boycott and a major figure in the Civil Rights Movement. She may have not been the first to be arrested for standing up to unjust laws, but she became one of the most visible. There's more to Rosa than what you may have learned (or not learned) in your textbooks! Parks was not sitting in a "whites-only section" when she was arrested. She was in a "Black section" and a white person wanted a seat because the bus was full. She refused to give up her seat. A couple of weeks after her arrest on the bus, she was arrested again for boycotting along with 114 others! Because she stood up for her rights and what was right, she eventually had to move from Montgomery to Detroit escape the hate and death threats. Rosa Parks was the first woman to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol in 2005! #BlackHistoryMonth #RosaParks #CivilRights #BusBoycott https://instagr.am/p/CaMsW-BsD8u/

I don't need many excuses to travel, but destination weddings are a great start. Over the years, we've helped so many brides and moms and inevitably, when you use the word wedding, stress levels rise, no matter how calm and collected you normally are. Using an experienced planner to help design the perfect destination wedding is the perfect anticdote. Plus, you get to travel. What more could you want?! Valentine's Day is here and while it's fun to celebrate love, it's hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that less than 65 years ago interracial couples were not legally allowed to marry. Richard and Mildred Loving fell in love and were married in 1958 in Washington D.C. They had grown up in Central Point, a small town in Virginia that was more integrated than surrounding areas in the American South. Yet they were arrested a few weeks after they returned to their hometown and ended up pleading guilty to charges of "cohabiting as man and wife, against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth", and avoided jail time by leaving Virginia and agreeing not to return to the state for 25 years. The Lovings moved to Washington, D.C., where they began legal action by writing to U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy. Kennedy referred the case to the @aclu. The Supreme Court unanimously ruled in favor of the young couple and they were able to return to Virginia with their three children. Each June 12, the anniversary of the ruling, Loving Day events around the country mark the advances of mixed-race couples and Mixed Race people. If you want to learn more about the Lovings, I highly recommend the film "Loving" with @negga.ruth and @joeledgerton as a way to celebrate Valentine's Day! #ValentinesDay #BlackHistoryMonth #LovingDay #LovingvVirgina https://instagr.am/p/CZ9W3mws_V7/

You know what's fun? When you discover that a client is also your neighbor! Patti looked so lovely in her custom mint gown with Spanish floral appliqué! I'm so glad she got to finally wear her it after COVID put wedding plans on hold for a year. https://instagr.am/p/CZzDacVs_cq/

Wilma Glodean Rudolph (June 23, 1940 – November 12, 1994) had just about everything going against her. She was the twentieth of 22 children from her father's two marriages. Rudolph suffered from several early childhood illnesses and she contracted infantile paralysis (caused by the poliovirus) at the age of five. She wore a leg brace until she was 12! She won a bronze medal at the 1956 Olympics in track and then came back to win 3 GOLD medals in the 1960 Olympics after having a child at age 18. Wilma became one of the most recognizable and popular athletes of her generation. Rudolph's legacy lies in her efforts to overcome obstacles that included childhood illnesses and a physical disability to become the fastest woman runner in the world in 1960. At the 1960 Rome Olympics, she became the first American woman to win three gold medals in a single Olympiad and was dubbed the "fastest woman in the world.' Rudolph was one of the first role models for black and female athletes. Her Olympic success gave a tremendous boost to women's track in the United States. Rudolph's celebrity also caused gender barriers to be broken at previously all-male track and field events After retiring from racing, she became a champion for equality, including stint as a Goodwill Ambassador for the US, and started a non-profit that helped to train young athletes and give them better opportunities. Her image was memorialized on a commemorative U.S. postage stamp. Rudolph died of brain and throat cancer in 1994. #BlackHistoryMonth #WomenWhoRock #WilmaRudolph #OlympicAthlete https://instagr.am/p/CZt52DkNj-H/

#TBT to the last time I saw Paris. It was 2019 and it feel like a lifetime ago. This whole pandemic thing has really made time feel strangely long and short at the same time. It's like 2 years of my life have just dragged on and sped by all at the same time. I'm so looking forward to going back this April! Tickets are booked, apartment rented with @parisperfect , and I'm making a list of all the people and places I want to visit while I'm there. Did you know that I have a mini blog series on traveling in Paris? It's actually one of our most popular posts! if you're traveling or thinking of traveling to Paris, head to the blog to see some of my favorite things to do while I'm there. https://instagr.am/p/CZhCCRhJ7Gb/
