HISTORY

     Shou was born in a small Xing village to Alice, his Amestrian mother, and Yoshirou, his Xingese father. Three years after Shou’s birth, they had a baby girl they named Miya, of whom he only knew for two years. When he turned five, he was taken from his parents by their Clan’s Secret Soldier Service and put through training to become one of the few that guard the royal descendants.       Over the years, he learned Xingese Martial Arts as well as the languages of the surrounding countries, including Amestrian. He showed great skill and learned efficiently, easily bypassing those in his age group and completing his training at age eleven. Shou was especially adept at fighting with various swords and knives, his chosen weapon being a matte black steel katana. Because of this training, he’s also accomplished in the creation and usage of bombs, heightened senses, the increased speed and fluidity of his movements, and using the Dragon’s Pulse to detect aura.       Shou, while possessing numerous physical abilities, is extremely intelligent. He possesses a sharp memory and is both creative and quick at coming up with solutions to problems or situations. He’s proficient at lying and deceiving–his poker face is not to be trifled with. During his training, Shou also looked into Alkahestry and it’s uses, quickly memorizing the Purification Circles and mastering the ability to heal in case he would ever need it.      When he was fifteen, after being assigned to one of the three Han Clan’s royal sons, his charge was assassinated on his watch. Worst case scenario? He is publicly shamed and executed for his failure to protect and provide. So, he fled. Shou left Xing and headed for Amestris.

      During his years in training, unbeknownst to him, Shou’s parents moved to Amestris for fear that Miya would be taken from them as well.  Around the time of his thirteenth birthday and Miya’s tenth, their parents perished in a fire that engulfed an entire town.       For the most part, he traveled around, never staying in one place for too long. It was difficult for him to find work and to earn enough money to feed himself; he often went days without a proper meal and just lived one day at a time. He had no hope in returning home and finding his family again. Shou didn’t see the point in living or even finding himself a place in the world for many years, though to his dismay, he continued to survive.       With all of the traveling he did, he acquired a terrible habit of eavesdropping and procured heaps of information on personal and official matters both. Shou didn’t see the value in any of it at the time–this isn’t his country and he doesn’t really belong anywhere; he doesn’t have the right to interfere with the matters of other people or the government.

      Eventually, he finds himself a stable job in a town in the southern region of Amestris called Dublith at a coffee joint owned by an elderly man. Shou was around eighteen at the time and was also given a place to stay in the man’s home. In the time that he spent around his new ‘guardian’ and employer, he was taught how to cook // bake, how to run a business, how to live in society in general and make deals, and about the stars. Through this elderly man is where Shou finds his hope for a new beginning.       Shou had begun to run the coffee joint full-time; he dealt with all sales and expenses, worked the counter, took orders, and closed up shop. After two years, he began to sell information on the side as well, continuously eavesdropping and getting in on the local rumors. Shou has dirt on anyone and everyone that’s ever lived in or visited Dublith, but he doesn’t share his information with just anybody. He does it for money or a trade of sorts and only with those he knows to have little to zero bad intentions. ( For example, he’s not going to tell person A about person B if person A has a motive to harm person B, though there are rare exceptions. ) He spreads gossip for the most part, finding it rather enjoyable to be in the know.       When Shou is twenty-one, the old man passes away and leaves Shou his home and his shop because of his lack of relatives. It’s also around this time that he is reunited with his younger sister, Miya, and begins obtaining information on the Amestrian military. This information is what he keeps private unless offered a large sum of money by the right people.       Shou finds himself drawing in shadier customers and begins separating his business with the coffee shop and information selling; he adopts the alias ‘Cosmo’ as a result of being the third owner of Cosmic Coffee and uses it primarily as a code word for those that want real dirt on others.

      His relationship with his sister is rocky at best; they’re both secretive, cautious people around one another and often remain fairly closed off, but acknowledge the fact that they are family and the only real connection to their parents that they have left. They often trade facts for facts or even items such as Alchemy or Alkahestry research books. Miya has taught Shou many things about Alchemy and using firearms and he has taught her about Xingese Martial Arts and Alkahestry. These two are often mistaken as fraternal twins because of their strikingly similar appearance and personality

     ●  Activation: The knives, when activated, glow due to the powerful, holy aura of the Innocence fragment it is forged with. A “tail” comprised of Innocence trails off the ringed end of the kunai much like a ribbon would. When deactivated there is no glow and no “light ribbon”.

     ●  Abilities: The shape, size, distance, strength, and durability of the barrier is dependent on the power level, endurance, skill, and synchronization rate of the user. The power will only touch who the user views as their enemy or anything that is its opposite ( i.e. Dark Matter beings // objects such as Akuma, Noah, etc. ), otherwise the blade will not harm other exorcists // Innocence accommodators.

              —  The user is able to amplify // concentrate the power of the Innocence, increasing the quantity of knives // amplifying its destructive power.                —  The user is able to throw kunai and rapidly expand // release a burst of energy on contact with an object or when it reaches the chosen place. This is useful for fighting in confined spaces. With training, the user may control the shape of the expansion, adding points or blunt ends.               —  The user has an unlimited target range of space to project the holy power any time and anywhere.               —  Only normal humans and others possessing Innocence can pass through barriers as if they aren't there. Akuma, Noah, and other Dark Matter beings // objects are blocked // injured by the barrier // energy and will react as if being electrocuted.              —  The user can throw the knives to cut through Dark Matter beings // objects from a distance. Although the target usually takes slashing damage, with experience the user is able to focus it into single piercing stab similar to that of a bullet.             —  The user can release energy over a specific target area causing great damage and // or delivering great shock waves of pure force. This ability allows the user to dispatch many enemies at once. If powerful enough, they can also release massive amounts of energy in multiple directions at once for almost unlimited scales. Unfortunately, this ability quickly depletes their energy.

    ●  Cons: While simple things like activation and maintaining a barrier for long periods of time can take energy, certain tricks can take much more power, depending on both the skill of the user’s mental and physical limits. Power can also be depleted with extensive use over a long period of time and packing a ton of energy into a powerful offensive attack.

HISTORY

      Shou was born in a small Japanese village to Alice, his British mother, and Yoshirō, his Japanese father. Three years after he was born, his parents gave birth to a baby girl, his younger sister Miya. Both children were raised in a close-knit neighborhood and primarily attended a tiny school that taught them basic subjects such as science, grammar/writing, literature, and history. Their mother contributed to their education by helping them learn English, how to play the guitar and piano, and how to compose music. Their father often taught them cooking and baking methods as well as mathematical basics. Over time, it was apparent that Shou had a knack for repairing and tinkering with mechanical or electrical devices.       Shortly after his tenth birthday, their village was attacked and overrun by hordes of grotesque creatures with weapons that disintegrated living things; the name later placed upon them was Akuma or ‘demon(s)’–a very fitting description indeed. His home had been engulfed by flames and his parents, having been inside at the time, perished. Shou and his younger sister were among the few survivors, saved by men in navy and white coats with fancy silver decorations and godly weapons that could destroy the demons. Remaining citizens were relocated and given medical attention if they needed it; Shou was faced with the responsibility of raising his sister by himself at the young age of ten and, for several of the following nights, lied awake at night thinking about how to protect her in the future. He often blames himself for their parents’ death as well as the burn she suffered from as a result of falling debris.       In the time that the exorcists spend assisting the leftover citizens, it is revealed that their original purpose was to search for the basis of their weapons–Innocence, another term unfamiliar to him at the time–in the surrounding area due to abnormalities that happened to pop up on their radar. The piece of Innocence they found reacts to his sister, Miya and, despite their protests, she’s taken to the nearest facility run by the Black Order–the Asian Branch–and leaves him behind, thus destroying what he views as his new-found purpose.      The experience is extremely traumatic for him and, for several years, he’s sure she’s dead; how could a seven year old thrown in the midst of a destructive war not perish?

      Not long after his sister was taken from him, Shou was placed in a ghastly orphanage run by strict caregivers. The home itself was incredibly bland and sterile, the treatment of the children harsh and unforgiving. Orphans had a dress code and a series of chores // tasks to complete every day with only a limited amount of time to complete them. Breakfast was had at eight in the morning before chores began and they were given a lunch break at precisely noon. Tasks were to be completed before five thirty in the evening, as washing up and dinner were between then and six p.m. If the task went unfinished before supper, offending children were physically punished and reprimanded, retiring to bed without bathing or eating. Multiple offenders received harsher punishments and were often isolated for twenty-four hours or more.      Shou detested his new “home” and “family”, often refusing to do chores and ending up as the typical insurgent of the bunch. He was a target for punishment because of his defiance and frequently found creative ways of escaping the establishment. After a year or so, an older boy of Chinese descent befriended Shou and eased him into being more compliant with the caregivers over time, before beginning to teach him what he knew of WIng Chun and karate.      In his free time, Shou practiced what the boy had taught him and began tinkering with mechanical devices and technology, regularly finding new ways to finish his duties quickly and efficiently. After his seventeenth birthday, Shou was discovered to be an accommodator of Innocence by a pair of Finders from the Black Order, which led to his second encounter with the men in navy and white coats.      Instead of being taken to the nearest branch, Shou was escorted directly to Headquarters to acquire his weapon and begin his training under General Klaud Nine. He becomes a full-fledged Exorcist approximately three years later at the age of twenty-one and, not long after, Miya is brought back into his life.

     After reuniting with his younger sister, Shou becomes extremely protective of her, which nearly drives her crazy. It takes some time for them to reconcile and grow back into their roles as brother and sister; both of them have changed immensely over the course of eleven years.      If Shou isn’t with Miya, he is usually found hanging around the science section, in the library, or in his room. His affinity with technology increases and he masters the art of creating golems as well as small, fully-functional robots and communication devices. He is fond of the majority of the scientists and tries to learn as much as he can from them by observing, asking questions, or tinkering with different inventions himself.
