It snowed in Hong Kong this weekend...
Trying to plait a fidgety Al in 2 degree weather with no gloves just doesn’t work out.

Impromptu show
so basically I got to the barn on Friday and couldn’t find Al. I had missed my ride the day before so i just assumed he was put in a lesson coz the office didn’t know I was coming... So I went around tugging at sleeves and asking random people “hello wheres my horse?” and even went into the tack room to see if his saddle was there, which it wasn’t.  When nobody could answer me, I went to go ask my instructor.
When I popped my head into the office and said “does anybody know where Al is?” I was greeted by nervous laughter... Vicky told me that “my horse had gone on holiday” to beas river! they packed him into the lorry by accident when this weekend’s competitors were supposed to go! The head instructor apologised PROFUSELY and was so embarrassed. She went to go talk to my mom, who was NOT happy. AT ALL. Somehow though, Sarah talked my mom into following Al to beas river to compete him this weekend, so I went today. I’ll follow up with the details in a later post but AHHHHH IM SO HAPPY WITH AL! we actually finished both of our rounds today, which is monumental. amazing.

So on Saturday for my lesson, the footing was quite bad so we couldn’t jump. Al has recently been having some issues with his flying changes where he’s more hesitant to change from behind. My instructor has ruled out all medical issues, so I’m thankful for that.
So, since we didn’t jump we worked on some disciplinal issues (with his nappiness and his bucking) which turned out quite well. We also conquered (or tried to conquer) the issue with the flying changes by setting out some poles and doing canter  transitions over them.
Vicky told me that something that I can do every other ride is just kind of give Al a fun time, just canter him around instead of properly schooling him. That way, he can have some fun in his lessons and will begin to appreciate working more.

Today my community lost a beautiful human being. Brandon deserved something better than death, and I wished that we could have given it to him. He was a source of light and happiness for everybody that he met, and I only wish we knew what he was going through so that we could return the favour.
As we miss this dear friend, I just want to remind everybody that everything gets better. Taking your own life should never be an option: there are people on this earth that care about you, even if you haven’t met them. On that note, if you are struggling with anything, please, please seek help. I know now that reaching out to people who are close to you may be hard, so I’m always open to talking. You know where to find me <3
