PIXI TONICS OVERVIEW AND UPCOMING EVENTS
Tumblr media
Well if one brand has owned the word ‘tonic’ in the last however-many-years in the skincare world/beauty blogosphere it’s Pixi.
Glow Tonic – one of the original glycolic ‘toners’, has recently been joined by Rose Tonic – and easily my most-asked-about product in recent weeks: Retinol Tonic.
I thought a brief overview of how/why/when to use might prove helpful because as I said, I’ve been inundated with questions about the trio.
As it’s impossible to fix an excel spreadsheet (for me) onto here – more’s the pity – I DO love me some excel – I’ll list them individually:
Glow Tonic The original Pixi Tonic – 5% glycolic acid in a non-alcohol base, this is now one of the best selling ‘acids’ on the market, and probably the best selling acid in its price range.
Glycolic loosens the bonds between dead skin cells and makes exfoliation easier. You need this if: You want help to keep your skin smooth, your skin has a tendency to be dry or dull or you are slightly older. (That doesn’t mean it isn’t suited to younger skins, I’m merely highlighting the benefit to an older face.) Glycolic acid can be helpful in working to reduce pigmentation, and in the case of Glow Tonic is great as either your starter glycolic or a daily mild acid. It comes in a stronger version in the form of the Glow Peel Pads, which are 20% glycolic and designed for the more hardcore users amongst you, or as a more intensive peel for use sporadically. Inci: Water/Aqua/Eau, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Glycolic Acid, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract, Aesculus Hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Seed Extract, Hexylene Glycol, Fructose, Glucose, Sucrose, Urea, Dextrin, Alanine, Glutamic Acid, Aspartic Acid, Hexyl Nicotinate, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium EDTA, Biotin, Panthenol, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance (Parfum), Caramel, Red 4 (CI 14700)
Rose Tonic is your traditional ‘toner’, although in this case I would consider it more akin to a hydrosol/light essence. It’s alcohol-free, contains glycerin and aloe to soothe and isn’t sticky like some essences can be. You need this if: You want to soothe your skin, or your skin is annoyed or dehydrated (most of us). Suitable for all ages, all skins. Rose Tonic is good for calming redness and can be used twice daily, or as and when you like. Inci: Water/Aqua/Eau, Rosa Damascena Flower Water, Propanediol, Glycerin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Sodium PCA, Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Triethyl Citrate, Rose Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Rosa Canina Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Sambucus Nigra Flower (Elder Flower) Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Betaine, Sodium Citrate, Montmorillonite, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexylglycerin, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate
Tumblr media
And finally, Retinol Tonic. New to the family, this is an encapsulated retinol using time release technology to work gently throughout the night while you sleep. Retinol/vitamin A is the gold standard of skin repair and collagen stimulation. You need this if: You want to start on retinols but have the fear. You love retinols but just want a mild version for daily use. You’re younger and don’t need to go hardcore at this stage. You’ve been ‘hardcore’ and it wasn’t for you. You regularly use vitamin A products and want to keep it going with something milder in between. You have sensitive skin. This is your perfect place to start. Suited to all skins, including sensitive. Inci: Aqua/Water/Eau, Rosemarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Water, Glycerin, Propanediol, Methyl Gluceth-20, PEG-8, Panthenol, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Lecithin, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Flower Extract, Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis Flower Extract, Sodium Acrylates Copolymer, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-27, Hydroxypropyl Cyclodextrin, Retinol, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Flower/Leaf Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Flower Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Sodium Citrate, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Polysorbate 20, Ethylhexylglycerin
All three Tonics can be used in conjunction with each other or on their own, happily. To use together:
Glow Tonic + Rose Tonic – either am or pm, apply Glow Tonic first and follow with Rose. Retinol Tonic + Rose Tonic – pm (and not after Glow Tonic) as above Don’t use Glow with Retinol. It’s pointless. Save your money and your product. They work better on their own.
All three Tonics are £18.00 for 250ml and £10.00 for 100ml and available from Pixibeauty.co.uk.

Lennon Stella's New Music Video "B\*tch" Features Annoying Dudes and a Maddie Ziegler Cameo
Lennon Stella's newest song "B*tch" is all about giving it right back to dudes who insist on referring to women by using the sexist word. So it's fitting that the bop's music video features a lavish party, killer outfits, and various men doing things that range from mildly violent to just annoying. (It also features Maddie Ziegler, but we'll get to that.)
On March 21, Lennon Stella released the official music video for "B*tch," which she says is about "the idea that when a guy calls a girl a b*tch, she stands up for herself and calls him one right back. It’s about girl power, and I wanted the video to reflect that." In the Drew Kirsch-directed video, Lennon wanders around a house party in knee-high boots. Captions flash on the screen for what she's ostensibly thinking on the inside about her "friends," whether she's calling out a guy playing acoustic guitar at a party (we all know that guy) or walking confidently away from a boyfriend who's yelling at her, with nothing more than an irritated shrug.
At one point, she enters a room full of partygoers, including the douche-y boyfriend who the lyrics say does too good a job at "laughing with our friends" while pretending he didn't just insult her. She sits down at the dinner table, and next to her is none other than Maddie Ziegler, who is real-life friends with Lennon and her younger sister Maisy Stella. The blink-and-you-miss-it scene gets a funny, fitting caption: "Gratuitous cameo." The flippant moment perfectly matches the poppy musical eye-roll that is "B*tch," which I may or may not have been streaming on repeat since it came out last week.

Modern Meets Whimsical Wedding in Dallas With Scottish Vibes
My, oh, my, today’s modern meets whimsical wedding is a sure hit in the heart. Madi’s from Dallas, Ali’s from Scotland, two worlds in a wedding, with most of their family and friends flew in to join the big day, The Joule Dallas witnessed it all. Planned by Engaged Events Dallas, with florals designed by Something Pretty Floral, this city wedding is pure sophistication and we’ve got images from Stephanie Brazzle Photography to prove it. Get ready to swoon!
From Stephanie Brazzle Photography: Bride fell in love with his Scottish accent! Before moving back to Scotland with his family he proposed to Madison. Madison threw a sleek Dallas modern wedding with Scottish feels.
From the bride: Something that made our wedding day so special to us was having our absolute favorite people all in one place. With Alistair being from Scotland, we were prepared that the majority of our Scottish friends and family probably would not be able to attend our wedding. However, when the majority of our Scottish guests’ RSVP’d with ‘YES’ we were ecstatic and could not wait to welcome them in Dallas and show them around the city we are so proud of. We loved witnessing our two worlds colliding when all of our American friends and family could finally meet all of our Scottish friends and family.
And there you have it. Don’t forget to follow us on Pinterest and Instagram for your daily dose of stunning weddings.

Why You’ll Love Shopping for Pants This Fall
The weather’s cooling off and that means it’s time to think about covering up. This time of year, the layering pieces — cardigans, blazers, light scarves and the like — get all the attention. But it’s the trousers that ultimately protect us from the windchill in fall and winter.
Sadly, regular old pants have a reputation for being boring. They’re less sexy than leggings, less chic than tights and less playful than a patterned playsuit. And if they’re not jeans, well, they have less street cred than their denim counterparts.
Thankfully, the AW18 collections promise to bring the fun back into trouser shopping. Colors are bright, patterns are on point and silhouettes are flattering. If you’re excited to get in on this season’s pants trends, read on for easy-to-follow buying and styling tips.
Trending Fall Pants Styles
This season, there’s no one style of pant that’s going to rule the day — which is great news for the tall girls, short girls, curvy girls and straight girls. Whatever your shape, you’ll find a pair or two of trendy fall pants to flatter. Culottes, crops, ankle ties and boot cuts are all on the table. Even luxe athleisure is still having its moment, so your fav track pants can team up with a pair of pumps when you’re feeling jogger chic.
Patterned pants are poised to step into the limelight. Camo in particular will likely be hot. Invest in this trend carefully though. You don’t want to drop $75 on a cute pair of paisley crop pants that will be out of style when spring returns. A striped pair of trousers is a nice compromise that delivers visual interest along with style staying power.
For some quick inspiration, take a look at these women’s wholesale trousers from Parisian.co.uk. The collection is colorful, textured and varied in cut — it’s a nice peek at what fall trouser trends may bring to mainstream retail.

How to Style Trousers
The beauty of a great pair of trousers is it can be styled in many different ways. Here are some strategies to get you started:
Combine your patterned trousers with a neutral, solid-colored top. Or don’t. Mixing patterns makes a bold statement on the days when nothing can stop you.
Culottes and other wide-legged styles look amazing with fitted tops, tucked in. Add a belt to accentuate your narrow waist even more.
Skinny pants pair well with tunics, kimonos and longline blazers.
Trousers with shorter hemlines are ideal for showing off statement footwear.
Bootcut and flared full-length trousers look incredible with pumps.
Almost anything goes with joggers and ankle-tie styles. Sex things up with a strappy heeled sandal and lightweight cami, or keep it real with a graphic tee shirt and classic Converse.
What trouser styles are you eyeing this fall? Let us know in the comments!

Thomas Markle Is Now Out Here Sharing Meghan Markle's Private Letters to Him
Hello, good morning, and today in 'ugh, why?' Meghan Markle's relatives (minus Doria, of course) are clearly not done vying for the spotlight. Not only does her half-sister Samantha Markle plan to release a tell-all book right around Meg's due date (classy!), but her father Thomas Markle is now out here exposing more intimate details from his relationship with Meghan.
Advertisement - Continue Reading Below
Thomas, who has insulted the royal family on multiple occasions, is on a public campaign to get Meghan to speak with him again, and just gave a lengthy interview with the Daily Mail. He shares, "I have been frozen out and I can’t stay silent. I have made dozens of attempts to reach my daughter via text and letters, but she and Harry have put up a wall of silence. They have done what they once told me not to do – they are believing everything negative that has been written about me."
Thomas goes on to share that he's tried to reach Meghan in a myriad of ways, saying, "I’ve pleaded with her to pick up the phone. I wrote her a two-page letter and sent it by certified mail via her representative in Los Angeles...I even hand-delivered a letter to Doria asking her why our daughter won’t speak to me."
And then, for some reason, in an effort to prove that he is a loyal/trustworthy guy who can be brought into the royals' inner circle, he goes on to share very intimate items from his relationship with Meghan, including the wedding invitation from her first wedding and hand-written holiday cards. And this is truly mind-boggling because any rational person can see that Meghan would most likely not want these kinds of things out in public. Firstly, the wedding invitation features her in a swimsuit with a beer (not really in line with her new royal persona), and secondly, literally NO ONE would want their heart-felt holiday cards to loved ones shared with the world (invasion of privacy much?).
So, Thomas, my dude, what are you doing?

Beauty Influencer Shahd Khidir Is Speaking Up About The Sudan Massacre Online
In the original Instagram post, Shahd included a note to the brands she is working with, saying, “I am sorry to all companies I am running campaigns with but my editorial calendar is currently on pause. I am willing to refund all and everything right away. Please, just send me an email.” Shahd tells Teen Vogue that many of the companies have not responded to her, while others have been “so understanding and cooperative,” and she appreciates their support immensely.
Beyond this, Shahd also made a point to share a message with her Instagram community, offering, “To my followers/supporters who this is too much for I am also sorry but my regularly scheduled content/reviews is also on pause. If this offends you, I am sorry. But I need to speak out and share this in a time like this.”
Shahd later explained that it was hard and “scary” for her to share the post because it made her feel “vulnerable and weak”. “As a micro-influencer in the beauty community this photo of me without makeup and with blemishes and zits and tears down my face, it was really crazy,” she revealed. "I felt like being political, which is ironic because I am a political scientist by degree, would be the death of my career." Her hesitation to be honest online shows just how much pressure there is for influencers to keep up appearances so their followers and brand partners are happy.
Ultimately, Shahd did not expect her post to go viral (it currently has more than 400,000 likes). In fact ,she says, “I expected people to unfollow me and for my influencing career to end right there.” The influencer thought that opening up about the situation would risk her career but that she felt she needed to say something. “It’s important for anyone that has a voice to speak up...If we don’t speak up about terrible injustices, who will?”
At the end of the original posting, Shahd went one step further to tell her followers, “If you want to support me please share this information as widely as possible and don’t be silent. Be an ally because we need your help. And tune into my stories for more information. THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY HAS BEEN SILENT.”
So far, her 62,000 followers have responded positively. “They have stood by me and really touched my heart. I made an active effort to respond back to every single comment, and direct message but I got blocked from responding,” she shares over email. Accordingly, Shahd wishes she could hug every single person who has shared words of support.
When asked what more people can do to support those impacted by the massacre, Shahd says, “I encourage people to keep sharing information about the Sudan Revolution until there’s a civilian led democratic government. It’s important to spread awareness. It’s important to tell everyone what’s going on. Considering the fact that the Internet is completely blacked out, the Sudanese people have no connection with the outside world. So we have to connect them and spread information about their struggles. Also, please donate to funeral funds, and to medical supplies.” Shahd has continued to share about the conflict on her Instagram stories.
Shahd is not the only one speaking up about the massacre on social media. Yesterday, Rihanna also posted about the conflict on her Instagram stories.

Winnie Harlow Will Reportedly Walk in the 2018 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show
Winnie Harlow will reportedly walk in this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, solidifying the model's dream of getting her own set of angel wings.
According to Page Six, Winnie was recently seen at a casting event for the 2018 show. On Friday, September 7, Winnie's rep confirmed to Page Six that the model will walk the Victoria's Secret runway later this year as the brand's latest angel. "We could not be more thrilled and proud of her," Winnie's rep said.
Winnie's involvement in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show will mark the first time that a model with Vitiligo has ever walked in the famous event. Making the fashion industry more inclusive has always been important to Winnie, though she has noted in the past that there's still much work to be done. The model has also been consistently open about her Vitiligo in inspiring ways, once noting on Instagram that she is "succeeding at showing people that their differences don't make them who they are. All our differences are a part of who we are, but they don’t define us."
While Winnie has yet to officially release a statement about her role in the Victoria's Secret show, she has retweeted several fans who are excited for her — including one who shared a video of the model seemingly finding out about the casting. "@winnieharlow is a legend," another fan wrote. "You inspire me to keep going. You did it!!! Walking in VS is such a huge accomplishment I can only imagine the happiness and joy you are feeling."
Judging from her retweets, it seems as though Winnie is just as excited as her fans. After all, getting her Victoria's Secret angel wings has been a goal for the model, as she told Elle in July 2017. "It's a pinnacle for models," Winnie said of VS at the time. "I'm so proud to see my friends walking on that runway and I'd be so honored to walk with them. Hopefully, somewhere near in the future."

The basics! Paint & windows, + my BIGGEST DIY ever: Week 2 of the One Room Challenge
10.10.2018
I've definitely made progress on our master bedroom makeover since the "before" pics--starting with paint and window treatments which honestly has been a huge, incredible change. I'm also finally ready to SHOP for stuff which is a little unnerving (I have a hard time committing!) but really helpful to see it all come together.
(You can see all my One Room Challenge posts here.)
Tumblr media
This post contains affiliate links.
Our progress so far includes the basics of making over a room:
Paint (unfortunately in this case, painting over wallpaper--more about that later)
Replacing the 40-year-old window coverings with these linen Roman shades
And, progress on the biggest project of the room (and literally my BIGGEST DIY ever): making a slipcovered bed!! We're loosely following this thorough tutorial for a DIY upholstered bed, but my plan is to make it look like this Serena & Lily one on my inspiration board.
And finally, the hardest piece so far to choose and order for me is lighting. Such a bummer cause I looooove shopping for lighting, but when it comes down to it for my own room, I'm so stumped!!
1. The basics: Painting over wallpaper
The walls in this room are the same white as everywhere else in this house, Alabaster by Sherwin Williams. It's a little warmer than the white we used in our last house (White, OC 151, by Benjamin Moore) which feels good next to the warm trim--but it's still not as warm as, say, Simply White by Ben Moore.
I really will have to share more with you guys later about painting over wallpaper, but for now let me just say that we were told to do it that way (rather than take down the wallpaper) by multiple professionals and we followed a series of steps to make it work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here it is painted but still quite a "before" state.
Tumblr media
2. The basics: new Roman shades
We left that baby quilt up a long time, and the tan vinyl roller shades that were under the curtains on the other two windows. It was not my style. :P
I've shared on Instagram about these shades... I really debated going custom for all our windows but once you add up the features like cordless and top-down, bottom-up (pretty important for this side of the house with our neighbors so close), custom got prohibitively expensive. I wasn't sure how I would like the quality of these top-down, bottom-up, cordless linen Roman shades I found online... but aside from the extra length, I think they are about as good as I could expect on my budget!
Still need to take down that old hardware...
Love that they are cordless and versatile with how we open them.
3. DIY slipcovered bed
I'll talk more about this later on in the ORC, but let me just say for now... like a crazy person, I have decided to build a bed instead of buy one because I couldn't find one I liked in my price range. And because my dad is retired and very generous with his time and skills.
Progress... we're following the tutorial for the base bed part, and will tweak things with upholstering and associated things like feet.
I made some design decisions like how high the base should be, and thought about how much space we need between the bed and nightstands which will dictate the headboard width.
It's coming together! I picked up the batting after we got it assembled and I need to staple it on before we make much more progress.
We got the headboard, batting, and muslin cut out--almost ready to start stapling and assembling!
4. Light fixture indecision
Ironic and such a bummer cause I always say I LOVE shopping for lighting!!, but now it turns out, when it comes to my own room... it's hard! I think I like one of these options but as I kept adding them to this collage I think I just got more confused.
I want the light fixture to be special. A little unique, a little bit of a statement, and something that adds to the vibe of the room. I think the problem is I am mixing styles (a little tiny bit of midcentury modern, some relaxed contemporary, the vintage look rug...) and it's an old house, so none of the fixtures scream "compatible." I'd love to hear what you think!! (You can click on each of these below for more info on them. I did my best on scale.)
I also want it to go with our home--I am doing less boho than I used to go for, more of the "modern traditional" look (hence fixture 6), not much MCM, a little more contemporary which is really just a mish mash of everything else, right?... it's an older home, but I don't want to do something that's actually like what used to be here because 1930's Tudor interiors are not my thing. ;) But I don't want to go crazy with a sore thumb light fixture.
JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. Reactivate it to view this content.
I've also done some shopping like for bedding and lamps, and am making progress with the sourcing--good because shipping delays make me nervous. (I did order the rug--you guys have been super into that on my Instagram! It's an amazing deal right here till they sell out.)
I also pulled the trigger on the big art above the bed. This print from Unsplash in a "muted prosecco gold" frame. With a big mat. I think it'll add just the right amount of color on the walls.
Stay tuned on my Instagram stories for more updates!

Life Update (July 2018)
We’re now more than half way through 2018 (what the actual hell).  I feel like this year is slipping through my fingers and I’m already regretting not making the most of it!  I wanted to do a life update post today as things are about to massively change in my life and I know I’ll look back at this time fondly; I just want to document it before it all changes.
1. The first big news (you’ll know if you watch my weekly vlogs) is that I’m moving house!  This is really bitter sweet for me because I absolutely adore my flat and the location I’m in at the moment, but it’s time for a fresh start and I couldn’t be more excited.  I’m moving into the most gorgeous three bed house (with a garden!) with two of my besties from school.  I have just over a couple of weeks before I pick up the keys so I need to knuckle down with packing up my life at any given oppurtunity now which is both fun yet terrifying.
One thing that I’m particularly getting excited about is interior inspo for my new bedroom!  I’ve chosen a really cute colour palette and have lots of ideas for how I want the room to look so I’ll update you with that once I’m settled!
2. Along with the move, I’m determined to TRY and downsize my possessions.  I’ve said before that I’m a hoarder – I find it really difficult to let go of things (I think I’m mostly worried about waste) but I’m trying.  I’m looking into doing a boot sale with my parents and I’m also selling lots of clothes and shoes/bags on depop (you can see what I’m selling here).  I’ve been listening to The Minimalist’s podcast whilst I sort through my house and am obsessed with watching decluttering videos on YouTube as they always inspire me, so hopefully I’ll start making good progress soon!
3. Last week I visited my favourite salon – Samantha Cusick, for a much needed hair makeover.  We decided on a gorgeous dark grey/purple shade and we also cut my center parting in – goodbye fringe!  I’ve literally had a fringe for my ENTIRE life so this is a massive change for me but I love it.  I feel a lot more mature and classy with my new hairstyle, just in time for my birthday next month…
4. Yup, I have less than a month left in my 20’s as I turn the big three-oh mid August.  I haven’t had the dread that most experience before turning this age (yet) but have started scouring the pages of instagram looking at botox ‘before and afters’ so maybe the realisation (and panic) is finally kicking in!  I’m celebrating by throwing a party and can’t wait to celebrate with all of my favourite people in one room!
So the next life update I write will be from a new desk in a new house with a new age… I’m looking forward to sharing this new chapter of my life with you all!

Products that Saved Our Beach Hair
by Jessica Pigza
School is just around the corner which means if you’re anything like my family, we are trying to squeeze our last bits of fun out of summer. For us that included taking a last minute road trip to the beach. We enjoyed the sand and sun and the hotel even had a pool. I’m pretty sure the kids spent more time wet than dry. Between my daughters’ hair and my own, this gave me an excellent opportunity to try out some new products to help fight the damaging effects of the salt and chlorine. Below are the products that saved our hair at the beach!
Note: Let me preface this by saying my hair is long, and I have a thick, coarser strand. My oldest daughter has long, baby fine hair which tangles easily and my youngest daughter, while her hair is a fine strand, she has a ton of it.
Dove Nourishing Rituals Shampoo Repairing Ritual + Dove Nourishing Rituals Conditioner Repairing Ritual
The first day of our trip the girls left their hair down while I wore mine in a high, messy bun and it made for a tangled mess after a day in the water. The goggle straps didn’t help this mess either. Once I finally got our hair free I used Dove Nourishing Rituals Shampoo Repairing Ritual + Dove Nourishing Rituals Conditioner Repairing Ritual to help clean the salt and chlorine away and work out the tangles. In addition to having a great smell, it really helped take a mangled mess of hair and make it brushable again. This worked beautifully in all our hair.
Regis Designline Olive Oil EVOO Leave-In Lite
To help work out any remaining tangles I tried Regis Designline Olive Oil EVOO Leave-In Lite. This worked equally amazing for all of us. I was able to easily get a brush through our hair and it didn’t feel greasy. It too had a great smell. Normally I wouldn’t use a conditioner in the shower plus a leave in conditioner, but given the harsh circumstances our hair was currently going through, it’s helped bring it back to life.
Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair and Body Moisturizer
After another fun-filled day in the water, I decided to try Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair and Body Moisturizer to help tame residual tangles. On my daughter’s fine hair it did leave it a little heavy feeling, but the fact that she didn’t cry when I brushed her hair means I will totally be using this again. I also feel like it added an extra layer of protection when we hit the water the next day. While this may not be an everyday use product, it’s great to help restore moisture.
Buff UV Headband in Poppis
By the fourth day, I was over getting my hair wet and the windblown look was continuing to cause tangles in those baby fine hairs around my face. To combat this I turned to my favorite headband/headwrap made by Buff. They come in an array of beautiful colors and styles and depending on the length you get, can be worn in many different ways. They also stay secure without giving me a headache which is a major bonus since I’m prone to headaches. The fabric is breathable and moisture-wicking so I didn’t feel hot.
5. Braids
Okay, so this technically isn’t a product but this made such a difference in helping our hair this trip. As I mentioned earlier the first few days we wore our hair down or in a messy bun. It led to a tangled mess. Finally, I got smarter and braided our hair before we hit the water. My favorite is the inside-out french braid (thank you YouTube). It kept all our hair out of our faces. Then when it was time to wash up, I rinsed the hair before undoing the braids. We didn’t encounter any tangles which made both momma and girls quite happy!
Hint: Before going to the beach or pool, completely saturate hair with clean water. Think of hair like a sponge, by thoroughly wetting hair with clean water before, you can keep the absorption of salt and chlorine to a minimum.
Your turn! What are some of your favorite ways to combat the effects of salt and chlorine on your hair?

Mango Street Sweethearts: Rachel + Daniel’s Moody Elopement on the Faroe Islands
If you’ve been on YouTube lately or you’re somewhat entrenched in the photog community, there’s a good chance that you already know today’s darlings: Rachel + Daniel of Mango Street. And, if you don’t know them, no worries, here’s a short and sweet introduction: R+D, both photographers and filmmakers, run an educational channel for photographers, with the tag-line of “Photography Tutorials That Don’t Waste Your Time.” (Now that’s something we can get behind!)
Staying true to their personal style and making a day to celebrate their love without any distractions, R+D flew photographer, Phil Chester + his photographer fiancée Sara Byrne, out to the magical Faroe Islands in Denmark for their moody and intimate elopement. After two days of hiking, they drove to a remote field near midnight and found a spot by a classic Faroese church to say their vows.
Ready to be absolutely enchanted?
The Outfits
Who else is crushing on Rachel’s black Sweet Caroline Styles skirt + top combo?
Our Favorite Memory From The Wedding
There were so many great moments, but an accidental great one that sticks out to both of us was stopping on a pretty empty road right as the sun was starting to dip and get all glow-y. We got to enjoy it for a few minutes instead of driving right through it, and we like that about it.
The Location
The Faroe Islands are comprised of 18 rocky, volcanic islands spanning from Iceland and Norway. Hikers and bird-watchers flock here to get a glimpse of the coastal cliffs and grassy heathland.
We wanted to get married on the longest day of the year. It’s always our favorite day to spend as much time together outside, and now we’re legally required to celebrate it together every year.
Rachel shares: Since it was summer solstice, we had kind of a celestial theme going on. Daniel had a galaxy lining in his suit and I had stars hanging from my crown.
As photographers and filmmakers, the people we hired to capture our wedding (Phil Chester, Sara Byrne, and White in Revery) were really important to us. Since we didn’t bring family and friends along, knowing that we brought along artists who would tell the story of how it felt to be there and do it well was crucial.
The Vows
All those hills + that view of the water!
We made the day our own by getting married remotely and trying not to conform to traditions like white dresses and getting married before 11pm. We’ll have a party with friends and family later, but this first celebration was just for us.
The Newlyweds
We LOVE a good floral tie. Want a similar one? One of our GWS x Neck and Tie prints will do the trick!
The flowers were a faux arrangement leftover from a styled shoot their friend/fellow wedding photographer, Eric, did. It had a black flower in it, so it seemed like a good fit! :)
Daniel’s dapper outfit is from Indochino + Farney. Did you notice the Peter Pan-style collar Rachel added to her gown? It’s by Los Angeles-based brand, Amaio.
Our Advice To Those Planning Now
As wedding photographers, our advice has always been “you do you.” Don’t get hung up on a “perfect” day or what anyone else thinks a perfect wedding day should be.
One with the hills…and the sheep! From the team at GWS, congrats to you, Rachel + Daniel!
To get a closer look at their day, check out this clip from White In Revery:

Tom Ford Shadow Extreme Review and Swatch – TFX5 Garnet Red
It was love at first sight with the Tom Ford Shadow Extreme in TFX5 Garnet Red. This is a wow-factor color that is just right on point and the micro-glitter finish makes the color extra special. As with most popular shades from Tom Ford, this particular shade had been sold out worldwide for a long time since it was released. If you can find it in store or online, make sure you snatch one as fast as you can! It restocks here (where I bought it from) and here every now and then with worldwide shipping.
Close up
Tom ford never fails for delivering cutting edge and high-end looking packaging. Each Extreme Shadow comes in a mini compact with encased mirror in a sleek reflective chrome case.  The texture and finish of TFX5 Garnet Red is amazing depending on the application. The micro glitters are so finely milled so it glides on buttery smooth for a foil-like sparkly finish. It almost feels like it is melting on the finger with intense color payoff. The red brick color is simply stunning – I have included a lot of swatches to show you how beautiful this color is. In fact it looks far more alluring on the eyes when it catches the light than what it looks in the picture.
Swatch – the heavy swatch was done with one single swipe only
Close up
Verdict: Must-have eyeshadow of the year!  The color is wearable and flattering but not boring. The Tom Ford Extreme Shadow range is currently only exclusive to Neiman Marcus in the US. I bought mine here in Australia, and it is also available here with worldwide shipping.

Upgrade Your Closet, Minimize Your Stress
Tumblr media
In partnership with our friends at California Closets
Anyone who has ever lived in a college dorm or a walk-up on the Lower East Side knows how important closet space is. And recently, our chief content officer, Elise Loehnen, realized that her own could stand an upgrade.
Her house, a midcentury A. Quincy Jones–designed home in the hills of Brentwood in Los Angeles, didn’t have a lot storage space. And over the years, her bedroom closet had become a catch-all—a suitcase there, a jumpsuit back there, even a small trampoline in the corner. So she and her husband, Rob, wanted to reimagine the space with the help of California Closets and design consultant Katharine Mills-Tierney. The goal was to turn a chaotic situation into a sleek, clean space while maintaining the design, soul, and aesthetic of their historic home. The outcome is as beautiful as it is useful. We talked to Elise about how it all went down.
The Before
When Elise and her husband moved into their house, they knew that storage would be an issue. In general, there are very few closets in the house—these homes were built for middle-class families during WWII. “They were made as a type of case study with very little built-in storage,” says Elise. “When we bought the house, there was no functional way to store anything.”
Elise’s bedroom closet turned into a “just close the door and forget about it” situation. It was a reach-in closet with a sliding door, which made it hard to access areas that could have been used as prime storage real estate.
Tumblr media
“When you have too many things, you don’t use what you have.”
Corners of the closet became a dark abyss of dead space. “I didn’t know what was in there. I had to dig it all out,” Elise says. Mostly, she disliked how the closet seemed to create more clutter: “It was a dysfunctional reach-in. It felt like an excuse to hoard.”
Tumblr media
“The spirit of the house is to be clean and not to be overstuffed with things.”
Elise had a clear vision of what she needed: a well-designed closet that maximized the space in a quiet, seamless way and complemented her midcentury home: “I don’t want a ton of storage. I just want it to be functional, and I want to be able to put things away easily.” Her top priority is having less stuff. And she wanted to use every corner of her home for purposes other than for storage. “It’s energetically healthy,” she says. “The spirit of the house is to be clean and not to be overstuffed with things.”
THE AFTER
To create a completely custom built-in, designers at California Closets consider every detail, from the layout to hardware to lighting. Then they measure, take inventory of your items, and plan around your wardrobe so there’s enough space to fit what you already have. “It’s a great service,” says Elise.
What was ultimately important to Elise was maintaining a level of minimalism. To her, that means having a closet that’s not totally filled to the brim. “You can’t live in a house like this and have a ton of unnecessary stuff,” she says.
“When you have too many things, you don’t use what you have,” says Elise, who makes the case for a lean closet. Any streamlined closet begins with getting rid of clutter. Even more than you think you need to get rid of. Paring down her belongings, Elise said, gave her a clear picture of what she had and made it easier to organize her wardrobe based on type and function. Sorting items by size maximizes the space, and arranging by color can help you find specific pieces faster.
A tranquil closet also has uniformity. Folding clothes in the same direction is a no-brainer. And though it sounds weird, experts advise rolling jeans and T-shirts to maximize space, just as you would in a suitcase. And the value of matching hangers and a sleek accessories case—like this one from the new California Closets Essentials line—can’t be overstated. It not only looks better; it makes the closet more efficient and user-friendly.
Elise loves the new closet and how she can see everything she owns organized in a space that truly feels reflective of her home’s style. But mostly, she loves that she’s not shoving things behind the door anymore. “It’s like a forced reckoning,” she says. “I know exactly what I have and exactly how much I can have. There are no places for me to hide things.”

So Are 'Jersey Shore' Alum Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Jen Harley Expecting a Baby or What?
Messy Jersey Shore couple Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Jen Harley already shocked the world with their first baby announcement in December 2017, and they're back at it again today with a possible pregnancy announcement. Last night, Ronnie and Jen shared pictures of her showing off her baby bump, but these pictures are likely old, so we don't know exactly what to believe.
Advertisement - Continue Reading Below
Since Jen called it a "baby bump debut" (see the Insta below), it sure sounds like they're expecting another baby. But also note that Jen's caption (above) drives fans to check at the link in her bio, which if you do—as I did, since I am dedicated to #journalism—you'll find this lil note buried at the end: "the couple is not expecting another baby at the moment" and "the photos are newly-released shots of her last pregnancy." So maybe this is just all a weird joke?
Of course, if they truly are having a baby, that's great news but it's hard to forget about their past. Ronnie and Jen are notorious for their verbal and physical fights. At one point, Ronnie even said, "Note to self, can't turn a natural born HOE, into a HOUSEWIFE, if you find them in the gutter then leave them in the gutter." Yikes. Guess he maybe took that back now and is okay with Jen being the mother of his children?
Ronnie also hosted an Instagram Live during what sounded like the beginning of a physical fight in April and recorded himself saying, "Put your fucking hands on me again," and "You want the fucking Live shit?" But I guess they moved past that because they got back together soon after and continued trying to be good parents to their first daughter, Ariana Sky Magro.
Advertisement - Continue Reading Below
Since then, Jen has been arrested for domestic battery, spit in his face, and Ronnie called her a "fucking whore." And they also attended Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino's wedding together and sparked engagement rumors.
It's been a year and this possible announcement is just the cherry on top. Good luck to literally anyone and everyone involved in this.
