SO i wanna talk about the killer frosts and men.
now, caitlin snow isn't nearly as misandrist as her comics predecessors. take crystal, for example- she hates men because she believes they only focus on her gender and her body. so she makes men into her ice slaves by assaulting them with a kiss just bc they're men. and she sees nothing hypocritical about her logic, because she's the ice maiden and that's that, bucko. double standard? pff, what's that? never heard of her.
now, when you take misandry away from killer frost, there is such little context for her forcing her lips on everybody. the context doesn't make it right, of course, that's not what the word "context" means. crystal frost saw herself as feeding men their own medicine.
arrowverse killer frost just... does it to do it. she knows her body can be a weapon, quick and easy, so she utilizes that, no questions asked.
but. arrowverse frost never uses it on women.
if it's just another way to hurt people of any gender(s), why has she only used it on men? even black siren seduced a lady or two to kill her off! it would've been so easy to fuck up tracy brand that way, or to use it to stun iris while iris was napped by savitar so iris couldn't move (thus, iris wouldn't have escaped with hr).
but frost never uses it with women, even on women she's planning on killing or having a hand in killing.
this isn't me being a girl liker kf truther. this is me wondering why kf doesn't also assault women when her freezing kiss has always been such a staple of the killer frosts and if black siren can get away with seducing women to kill them on the same network, why does frost limit herself to only using this sort of attack on men when it's shown to be so swift and fast-acting compared to ice spikes and physical fighting?
she used it on barry and would've used it on julian. come on.
SO!!! i think i can make the argument that arrowverse kf and caitlin snow have a little misandry in their beautiful shared heart.
now, the whole reason kf exists within caitlin is because of men. her sweet dad, who made his only child into a science experiment to "save" caitlin from the statistically so so small chance she might inherit his disease. frost's creation was an unintended side effect of thomas' medical abuse. caitlin canonically suffered memory loss at this time, not remembering her father experimenting on her even before frost would've started taking over the body.
but, in season 3, they don't know that! they think that flashpoint is the catalyst for caitlin becoming killer frost. that a different man is to blame for this. that barry allen broke caitlin snow.
let's backtrack a season, though-
s2 is zoom season. this time around, caitlin is kidnapped for multiple episodes, what an interesting change of pace. jay garrick is hunter zoloman is zoom. he's another man that has lied to her. he's another man that's used his love for her as an excuse to hurt her. she has been belittled and humiliated by yet another man.
i mean, just- "[harry]'s just as stubborn as all the rest of my male patients in this place" is a quote from s2e9. need i say more? because i am going to say so much more.
this is also the season we meet earth-2 killer frost, who is happily with her version of ronnie and still regularly uses her mouth to hurt other men. wonder where s3 kf got that idea.
let's backtrack yet another season! eowells. that's really all i have to say. caitlin was hired at star labs right out of school, and then eowells ruined what little she had for a reputation when the particle accelerator exploded, seemingly killing the man she loved; actually killing multiple others; and seriously injuring barry allen, who she is then responsible for the medical care of. and then she finds out eowells had always planned it that way. that a man she had respected and loved and looked up to, had knowingly and purposefully ruined her life before she could even do that much with it.
also in this season, caitlin is assaulted by hannibal bates masquerading as barry allen. caitlin is openly confused on why "barry's" kissing her and shoves him off her before he forces himself on her again. that is a weirdly perfect parallel for when killer frost in caitlin's skin assaults the real barry in s3.
jumping back to season 3, julian's the one that rips off the necklace that keeps the cold at bay. julian is aware this is against caitlin's wishes. but julian claims to love her, so he makes the decision for her.
so many decisions about her life seem to be made by men she never asked to do that. a lot of men she specifically asked not to do that, too.
you might be wondering why all this stuff that happened to cait might matter to frost? because frost watched it all. we know that frost has been apart of caitlin since she was young; frost was created to protect caitlin, however unwittingly. when frost comes out after what julian does, they still respond to caitlin's name. caitlin says she knows she can keep fighting... "but i don't want to."
frost is working off caitlin's anger in s3 at most men. it's the season they're blurred together the most.
in their case, i don't think they're unaware of their spark of misandry. crystal frost doesn't own her hypocrisy. but, in s3, arrowverse caitlin and frost do.
for the first time, they are actual partners in their body. they fully remember caitlin's medical knowledge, they respond to both names, they emphasize their individuality as much as they conflate them together. they tell cisco not to call them caitlin, and then they call themselves caitlin in front of savitar. they're contradicting themselves constantly and, to some degree, they're actually aware of it.
they work off each other's emotions and memories. even in s4, at first, frost almost exclusively comes out in response to caitlin feeling fear, because frost is, first and foremost, a weapon.
a weapon created, shaped, and sharpened by countless men in caitlin's life. so frost'll use it against them. she'll play the cards they dealt her. they taught her how, after all. the student becomes the master, the victim becomes the victimizer, tomato tamahto.
AND THAT WAS TALKING ABOUT THE KILLER FROSTS AND MEN!!!

The latest numbers coming from Gaza state that there are about 77,575 injured Palestinians as of April 28, 2024.
I honestly see this number as a very humble one, but regardless, I said this in 2014 and it bears repeating: considering the types of weapons Israel is using in Gaza, the overwhelming majority of these injuries are severe and critical. So when we say that well over 77,000 people are injured in Gaza, we're talking about tens of thousands of people who have ended up with a lifelong disability. Thousands of amputees with no proper care. Thousands who will not be able to walk or see again. Many won't be able to go back to school or work again. Burn victims without the means to reduce or take the pain away. Many on life support and many more who will not even make it.
So many open wounds, both literally and figuratively, that we need to keep present in our conversation about Gaza.

*puts hands on hollywood exec's shoulders, staring unblinking into their eyes* listen to me. you will never get people who hate musicals to like musicals by making your musical less of a musical. if you hide the fact that your film is a musical in the advertising, you're going to get a lot of low ratings from people who hate musicals and went into your movie not expecting a musical and got one anyway. people who hate musicals will hate them no matter how realistic and diegetic and lowkey you try to make it. they will hate musicals even if you completely excise anything complicated, over the top, silly, or even slightly challenging. they will hate musicals even if you cut half the songs. they will hate musicals even if you cast that a-lister who can't sing worth a damn. stop trying to market to people who hate musicals. they're a lost cause. your audience should be people who love musicals. this half-assed middle ground pisses off both camps. just embrace the fact that your movie is a musical. lean into it. don't try and trick musical haters into coming to your film when you could be marketing to the theater kids. better cringe than a coward.
