it’s time to wake up @shslai

It is equal parts perplexing and predictable for Izuru to have found himself waking up in a pod, the metal cool against his skin. A striking difference from the warmth of the sun Hajime felt on that island. Unable to bring themselves to open their eyes quite yet, he takes a deep breath. Another. The feeling of these contrasting perplexing and predictable feelings are in and of themselves unpredictable, new and exciting, but all the while frustrating. Idly, he wonders if this too will become boring.

Izuru is not quite sure who he is.

But they don’t get much time to dwell on that, because the pod makes the sound of steam blowing out of a pipe as the lid opens up, revealing a tall ceiling just as cold looking as Hajime feels.

Hajime?

It is hard to know what to call oneself. 

Before they can really dwell on the confusion, they’re sitting up, and someone’s presence grabs hold of their attention.

Chiaki Nanami. Ultimate Gamer. The Traitor. Hajime’s best friend. Izuru’s…

“Hello.” It’s all Izuru can get out.

There is so much more to be said, on the tip of his tongue and waiting to spill out like a waterfall crashing over itself. But the dam of his fears holds it back. A fear like this hasn’t been felt by him in… the amount of time is countable, stored somewhere in the back of Izuru’s mind. But it is just out of Hajime’s reach, the tips of his fingers brushing against information that means nothing and everything all at the same time.

Nonetheless, he is afraid. He looks into Chiaki’s soft pink eyes, and they are afraid.

That fact in itself is endlessly exciting.

for too many months… no, too many years, chiaki had been waiting for something to give. joining the fourteenth division of the future foundation & working alongside her former underclassmen has saved her otherwise fleeting sanity. having seen what she had seen in the years prior, it’s something of a miracle that she never underwent the same fate that the rest of her classmates had.

speaking of her classmates… what she watched them go through while monitoring the neo world program changed her more than the years of tragedy. the hope that she & the others in the future foundation had put into this program was all but shattered, despite the faith she had in her old friends.

there’s something morbid to be said about watching yourself die after having almost died once already. it’s an experience chiaki never thought she would go through, until she did. though she was not in the neo world program herself, her avatar a mere AI, she had been observing the events going on. when it finally came to an end, & those outside the program were able to stop the junko AI, chiaki nearly collapsed from relief. since then, she’d been sitting by the side of one pod in particular. the person inside was closest to her before all of this had happened, and she wanted their safety and sanity above all else.

once she got word that it was safe to open up, she didn’t wait any longer than necessary. the top of the pod rose so painfully slowly, chiaki could feel her anxiety spiking. upon seeing hajime — no, izuru..? — she can’t stop tears from welling up behind her eyes. 

he’s okay. he survived & he’s okay.

their voice hits her ears with a kind of apprehension she wasn’t expecting, & she quickly tries to come up with a response of her own.

“ hi… ” she begins to piece together a sentence, not wanting to ask too much too soon while also wanting to know everything.

chiaki’s eyebrows knit together, concern & hard-to-hide affection combining in her expression. “ how’re you feeling? ”

you got the soulmates au! you do believe in a love that's pure, everlasting, sometimes unfair, devastating. you believe in fate, destiny, whatever you wanna call it, and you hope to find your own soulmate one day (or- if you have already found them, congrats!). i have a feeling you're one of those people who check their crush's daily horoscope along with their own, which is very adorable. it's okay to romanticize the little things. you remind me of tight hugs, of matching necklaces, of lingering gazes.

@shslai has a birthday!!!

The room’s set up makes Ibuki bounce up and down in place excitedly, filled with anticipation for this surprise for her friend. Chiaki is gonna love love love the hell out of it! She just knows it! Now Ibuki just has to find those plugs…

Aha!

Once the plugs in question are found, Ibuki grabs hold of one in each hand, hyping herself up before connecting them, “Drum roll pleeeeeease!!!” she says, to no one in particular, before blowing a raspberry as makeshift drumroll. Without further ado, she connects the plugs.

The room erupts in fun, flashing color, and Ibuki could absolutely not be more thrilled at the turn out. She can’t help but squeal as lasers shoot around the room and multicolor lights shine and bounce off the walls. It’s just so pretty!! So cool!!! Ibuki is the bestest friend ever, and her friends only deserve the best!!!!

Quickly, and maybe too excitedly, Ibuki runs out of her cabin. Wait, is it even possible to be too excited? No way no way no way! But that doesn’t matter right now, not when she’s already at Chiaki’s door, yanking it open to drag her out, whatever game she’s playing be damned!

“Chaiki!! C’mon c’mon c’mon!!!!” Ibuki yells as she pulls Chiaki down the way back to her own cabin, “You’re seriously gonna love this, Ibuki swears it!” Is all the warning given before Ibuki shoves her through the door, and into the light show. Somewhere in the light show, there’s a projector set up by Kazuichi, and the entire gaming set up needed to play rock band.

“Tadaa!” Ibuki cheers, “What do you think? I’ve got everyone coming over later to take turns playin’ with us, but Kazuichi did call first dibs on the drums, and Ibuki has to play guitar!!” it’s only then Ibuki realizes she might be getting a bit ahead of herself, “But of course the birthday girl get’s first pick! So I hope you’re excited!!”

@chuuniibyou​ has a gift for the birthday girl !

"H-Happy birthday Nanami-san!" She's strangely nervous to give the gamer her birthday gift. Clutched tightly in one hand is a gift bag containing a plushie, a bunny phone case, and a cat hair clip. "Here! Um, I hope your birthday is special a-and uhm..if you want I could spend some time with you! And I could make you dessert."

a smile makes its way onto chiaki’s face at the kind gesture, and at the thought of spending time on her birthday with kuroko. she gently takes the bag from the other girl and peeks inside, beaming at the gifts — and the thoughtfulness behind them. 

“shitai-san, this is so sweet ! thank you so much..”

chiaki takes the cat hair clip out and puts it on immediately, right next to her signature spaceship pin. holding the bag in one hand, she wraps her arms around kuroko in a warm, heartfelt hug. after a moment, she steps back, soft smile still on her face.  “i’d love to spend time with you today ! it sounds like fun.”

chiaki grins at the other girl, controller in hand. “ aw, come on! there’s no way you didn’t see!! ” although, what was she supposed to expect playing against chiaki? she is the ultimate gamer, after all.
