» and the hardest part by misinning (@misinininining ) Rated T | 2.9k | Complete Summary: The scent of fresh coffee cuts through the air as it brews—a smell that Goro associates with home—and she feels the nightmare fading like sand tumbling down an hourglass.
Sad, sweet, & sapphic. Atmospheric & domestic. Goro grapples with the impending fate of her father. It's a tall task making shuake sweet while keeping canon intact, but jumping twelve years ahead is a really smart way to handle that. It's enough time that I totally buy where Akechi is at. Leaves me wondering: which is a worse fate for Akechi? Being a man who resembles his father or a woman who resembles her mother?
#Tho I think popular fanon is male akechi resembles his mother#which inverted would be fem akechi resembling shido#which is equal parts funny and interesting#akeshu#persona 5#shuake#fic rec#hidden gem#sweet#post-game

» Dice Games by senblades (@senblades ) Rated T | 6.1k | Complete Summary: He’s not friends with Akechi. Not at all. Spending time together is a prerequisite for such a label, perhaps, but not the definition.
A vivid, economic role reversal one-shot. An entire alternate game told in poignant flashes as our leads careen towards the inevitable Nov 20th. Even though their positions have swapped, goro & akira retaining (most of) their canonical backstories, personalities, and even behaviors during the game is fascinating. Goro is still the chatty one, still the one inviting Akira out, still initiating the duel. God it's so interesting when you twist the prism ever so slightly, suddenly all these actions seem so heroic. Of course the hero is going to doggedly pursue the quiet, unreadable dark-haired villain. How could it be any other way?

» MISBEGOTTEN by afterreign (@afterreign ) Rated T | 2.2k | Complete Summary: SCENE: It is a cool November evening in a quaint café located in Yongen-Jaya, Japan. There are no patrons. Only one person is present: AKIRA KURUSU. Or: A one-sided conversation that changes nothing for Goro and Akira. Set over one year after Akira accepts Maruki's deal.
Saw "bad ending post-canon" & "script format" in the tags and did a little gasp of "oh that's so smart". Love Goro's micro rebellion. Really brilliant application of the script format. Akira's dialogue being omitted is such a clever touch. After all, scripts are only for actors.

» animus and amity by DistantConstellations Rated T | <1k | Complete Summary: "What were you thinking, when you shot me?" This really was a conversation long coming.
How delightfully unhinged! I love a take on Goro & Akira where they're a little off their respective rockers, and that paired with Akira's awareness of it makes for a delightful mix.

» debate half empty and half full by tnevmucric Rated G | 3.4k | Complete Summary: "i like your room", akira whispers, like a secret.
A phone conversation during a temporary body swap. I love a fic that successfully throws the reader into the deep end and tells you to start swimming. Really lovely, really powerfully intimate piece. The two leads have such a natural rapport, broken edges and all. I'm always impressed by pieces heavy on dialogue and light on everything else--takes a lot of authorly confidence and strong dialogue, and this has both.

» Instructions on a Pour Over by dragonofeternal Rated G | <1k | Complete Summary: The perfect cup of coffee begins like this..
Short, sweet, and exquisite use of the 'food as a metaphor for love' tag. Made me want to reread it a second time with a cup of coffee on hand.

» it’s not a dream it’s a memory by Alykas Rated G | 3.4k | Complete Summary: Goro meets Kurusu for the first time in a TV station hallway—the marker of an end. Goro meets Akira for a second time in a TV station hallway, it's the beginning of something. At least he knows that much.
First meeting in the second rotation of a time loop. A pretty and sharp little one-shot that offers a tantalizing glimpse into what came in the timeline before, and hints at what might come next. Feels like 30k words distilled down to the most important scene in the best way possible.

» lie to the end by cosmicpoet Rated T | 1k | Complete Summary: Goro understands that Leblanc feels like a home, the one thing he'll never truly have.
A very fun look at what possibly could've been going through Akechi's head during "honey, i'm home". Delicious angst as the gears of fate grind onward towards fateful November.

» Each to Each by Yustiel Rated G | 8.6k | Complete Summary: Akira seeks comfort from a dead boy and his doppelganger.
How does one even grieve a death like Akechi's? The only honest answer seems to be: messily. A delightful, tragic ride. The quick, trasitionless cuts are so good a blurring the line between the real and unreal, dream and reality, and the metaverse where things are both. The constant interplay of persona user & persona, watching those edges blur, is such a fascinating exploration of the topic. A dark, complicated, absolute genius interpretation.

» Too Little; Much Too Late by Scallion Rated G | 1.1k | Complete Summary: Akira thinks he should say hello, that boy, he looks awfully lonely. The two of them, opposites and alike; oh if only they remembered they met long ago.
Really vivid and beautifully tragic! So much misfortune packed in so few words--every sentence really does land like a blow!
