“Shakshoukah” You know when you’ve been craving something and there’s just nowhere around that’s serving it? And then, out of the blue it pops up on a new menu! Well, I’d been wanting to have a great Shakshouka for months now and imagine my delight when I saw that Hamilton’s @nique_restaurant added it to their newly launched #Brunch menu. Of course I headed down, grabbed a seat at the chef’s rail and let me tell you, it was everything that I had dreamed of. The tomatoes and onions were nice and chunky, kind of a rustic feel, and perfectly seasoned, with just the right amount of heat from the chilies. Served with 2 poached eggs and thick slices of toast, man I was in heaven. You can only get this during Nique’s Sunday Brunch, 11am-3pm. Most of you know about my love of all things #Coffee, and one of my newer Hamilton haunts is @steeltowngarage. @steeltownjeff is always experimenting with interesting #espresso based drinks and this time around came up with the “Cafe Nieto”. The #Cafe Nieto is made with Sweetened Condensed Milk and a shot of Espresso with a thin layer of #Crema on top, it kind of reminds me of a B52. Jeff says to experience it properly you should stir it up first, which I did. Next time I’m going to drink it as is and compare the two different tastes. The debate about who has Hamilton’s best #Cannoli will always carry on, but IMHO, @labakeri_ wins hands down. The texture and taste of their ricotta filling is what puts them head and shoulders above the competition. Earlier this week I had a chance to hang out behind the scenes and witness (and taste of course) the magic. While I always love a plain Cannoli, I am also a fan of La Bakeri’s #Espresso, Salted #Caramel, #Pistachio and #Chocolate Cannoli. @labakeri_ reopens today, with a fresh new look and all the deliciousness you’ve come to love (or need to discover). Checked out Hamilton’s new @donutmonsterhamilton shop on @lockestshops today with some TO friends. It’s a beautiful space and it was busy as hell. Had a few very unique flavour combos (Coconut Curry, Raspberry Habanero) and a few traditional ones, unfortunately I still find them a bit too sweet for my palate. Since they completely sold out early this afternoon, it seems that I’m clearly in the minority. I love that they’re using local roaster @detourcoffee for their #espresso drinks. Congratulations @thefrenchhamont on your 1st Anniversary! The French is most definitely my most visited Hamilton restaurant this past year, and for good reason. The ambience and design, the amazing staff, and most importantly the food. I’ve had too many memorable meals to mention, from #Brunches, Mother’s Day, New Years and business lunches. Smoked #Salmon Toast, Eggs Benny, #French Onion Soup, #Trout Almandine and #Steak Frites to name a few standouts (oh, and that #Butter!).
