There really wasn’t anyone that Evan wanted to see less right now than Sienna Voss. He really hadn’t expected to see her again at all but especially not when he was dressed as a fucking pirate holding his niece who looked enough like him that she could pass for his daughter. The moment Evan laid eyes on Sienna again he felt every sick and dark feeling come bubbling up to the surface. She had been his first real heartbreak, not the one that completely ruined him, but the one who put the first cracks in his chest. She had left him on his wedding day, shattering his heart and taking away the future he thought they had together and Evan had never really gotten over that. When he’d met Jasmine a year later, he didn’t think he’d ever be able to trust anyone again, not after what Sienna put his heart through. But he had learned to love and to trust only to have it ripped away again and now seeing this woman standing in front of him made him sick.

“Hey.” It was all he could think of in that moment, his mind running blank as her eyes met his and he swallowed the lump in his throat. He glanced at his niece Carly who was grinning and waving at Sienna and he knelt down to set her on her feet. “Why don’t you go see Mommy for a little bit and I’ll come find you and take you to the apple bobbing later okay?” Evan pointed to his sister a few yards away as Carly took off towards her, rising back up to his feet again. “Tara’s littlest one. Not mine.” He wasn’t sure why he clarified, it wasn’t as if it was any of Sienna’s business what he was up to anyway. “What are you doin’ here, Sienna?”

Forcing a smile onto her lips as Carly waved at her, she was ready to head off in the opposite direction like she had wanted to but somehow she stood in place. Watching as he set her down and spoke to her, the knots that were in her stomach and the ton of bricks she felt had been placed on her chest instantly made her feel like she had to work on catching her breath despite being stood still. Her gaze jumped over to Evan’s sister, you would think when it clicked in her mind she would’ve been able to reel back to amount of emotions she had been hit with but it felt entirely out of her control. His confirmation on the fact that the little girl wasn’t his took a second to register but at least she was able to bring her attention back over to him. “Oh, right.”  It wasn’t like she hadn’t expected him to move on and live his life, she had but to see him as a father? Selfishly, she wasn’t wanting to find out about something like that. 

“Supporting the community, every little bit counts, right?” Right, she knew that wasn’t what he meant by what she was doing there but again, her mind was a bit fuzzy, still reeling about the almost daddy confusion there. “Couldn’t exactly stay away forever Evan,” as much as she figured he probably hoped she would. “I’ve still got people here.” She didn’t think she needed to share the details with her grandparents either, or more, she didn’t think he cared to hear about it.

Of all the things she had mentally prepared for her with coming back to town, none of it had been aimed towards seeing Jonas again. Stupid, right? She should’ve known better but she allowed herself to be caught completely off guard just by the sound of his voice. Turning her head over to look at him, her eyes took him in fully as if it would help her mind catch up to what was happening in that moment. This is bad. It had been proven, multiple times that where Jonas was concerned, Sienna wasn’t so logical with her decisions. Just ask anyone who was ready to throw her back out of town for causing Evan any pain. She must truly hate herself, what other reason would she have to leave someone that looked as good as either of them did. “You’re going to have to do a lot better than that. The guy over there,” she motioned to one of the males at the end of the bar. “Asked if he could touch my hand to tell his friends he’d been touched by an angel.” She was joking around, trying her best to seem like she wasn’t screaming internally at the sight of him.

Jonas wasn’t much of a festive guy; the male knew though he had to do something other than work at the hospital. He walked past some of the tents, his gaze drifting around the area around him to people watch. His eyes landed on one of the bars, making his way towards it. He pulled his hands out his pockets and towards the door. He pushed the door open and lifted his eyes up to look around the bar. He made his way over to stool and slipped into it, ordering a beer. His head turned to spot Sienna sitting a few stools down. He couldn’t believe it. After all the years that had past she still looked as beautiful as he could remember. He took a hold of the beer being placed in front of him and slipped out of the stool, moving towards her. “Sienna,” he brought the beer towards his lips. “You look great,”

“It’s called Pica. Apparently, it’s triggered by some sort of nutritional deficiency,” she replied off-handedly. She collected small bits of trivia as a hobby, and happened to have lodge that piece somewhere quite a while again. “The human body is strange. It kinda freaks me out when I think too hard on it. I should probably never do drugs. I tried pot one time in undergrad - I could hear my heart pounding in my ears and it terrified me…” 

“Ah..” Sienna nodded her head slowly, her smile growing. “You’ve just got all the answers then?” She was the same way, at least when it came to picking up useless facts that no one ever asked for but she was always more than willing to share. Don’t even get her started on dad jokes, for whatever reason something so simple brought her a lot more amusement than it should’ve. “Mmm, well, it all depends on what exactly you’re taking.” Though she’d never suggest to do anything really, but thanks to her mother she knew more than enough. “But you’re probably better off taking a few shots instead.”

Deserved, she thought. The attitude was always going to be expected by Sienna now but she had to resist the laugh that had bubbled up, bitting the inside of her cheek instead. It wasn’t funny, she just wasn’t sure what people were expecting from her. “Sorry?” She feigned confusion, coming to a stop just a few feet from her. “Wasn’t aware it was up to anyone else.”

Sloane walked down the street towards the grocery store, her eyes lifted from her phone to see Sienna walking in her direction. She let out a long breath, slipping her phone into her back pocket as the distance between them closed. “You sure have some nerve showing your face in this town again,”

Ben worked the morning shift as the onsite paramedic at the Halloween Carnival,but he stuck around to enjoy the Fright Fest and various food vendors and haunted houses as the sun set. He had run into Owen and Arielle earlier that evening— a particularly interesting interaction by Ben’s more than difficult standards. Aside from that, everyone he met there was a friendly and familiar person until he was face to face with the woman who broke his best friend’s heart. Sienna. There was a frown that threatened to distort his features, but he reeled it in. She was being civil and Ben wasn’t petty enough to be rude to her. Instead, he redirected his eyes to the food stand in question. “Their funnel cakes are award winning. At least in North Carolina.” His voice was indifferent. “The raspberry ones are the best.” What was she doing striking up a conversation with Ben Angelo after so long?

“Guess I’ll have to give it a try then.” She gave the truck another glance, truthfully expecting a different response from him. One more direct, to the fact that he was even in her presence so at least this time around, she could say she was surprised by the lack of. She wouldn’t hold her breath for it to continue being so civil but she’d take what she could get wherever. Her gaze moved back over to him after having looked around them, making sure no one was about to come keep him company in the line that would actually throw her off. If she could control running into them one a time, she’d at least try. “So how you been, Ben? Did I miss anything exciting?” Yeah, she understood she was pushing her luck here but she figured if he didn’t want to entertain her, then he’d disappear from her sight whenever he wanted.

“If we split up, just make sure to listen out for your phone because if I’m texting you to save my ass, I expect you to come running.” She was joking, mostly but it could be a very real possibility that she might need to be pulled away at some point in the evening. “Unless you’re entertaining some company.” She smiled, raising a brow. “Will there be anyone here that you’re looking for?” Now she was curious, since she hadn’t been up his ass lately, meddling in all things going on with him due to having to get everything situated with the move and getting settled back into town. Now that it was all over with, she could go back to pestering him at all hours of the day. At this point, it was one of her favorite pastimes. @phillip-h-valentine​

Parting ways from Ximena with the plan to meet back up in a bit since her stomach was currently angry with her, making her head straight for all the food trucks. Her nerves had settled long enough to be reminded to enjoy some of the food the festival had to offer so she figured she should take the chance while she had it. She had yet to run into that one in particular individual and if she were really lucky, she would avoid the interaction entirely but luck and Sienna didn’t go so well together. Something that seemed to be proven when she realized who it was she got in line behind. Lovely. If she were more worried over it, she would have backed away slowly and headed for one of the other trucks but instead she just exhaled deeply and stayed in place. She could’ve waited to see if he noticed her at all really, but there was only two people in all of Asteria that would’ve had her ducking and running, Ben definitely wasn’t one of them. In this case, it was just better to bite the bullet. “Had anything from these guys before? Ima guess their line is longer for a reason.” @itssaintben​

Debating on whether or not she would enjoy the festivities with the rest of the town, it took a good long talk in the mirror with herself just to get her out of the door. She didn’t care for most of the people she would have to run into that wouldn’t be so delighted by her return. It would happen eventually and their dirty looks weren’t something she was going to lose sleep over but the one person she had actively looked to avoid since stepping back over town lines, she had done so successfully. Showing up to something like this only threw all that effort into the trash, assuming he was there. Then again, just like with everyone else, it would have to happen eventually. Asteria wasn’t nearly as big enough as she wished it was. Regardless, she wanted to enjoy herself with those of which she was happy to be around once again, having to play catch up with most of them now.

The drinks she had surely helped with the nerves, allowing her to show her face with a smile, laughing along with those she ran into. Currently she stood in front of one of the games, staring as a few people participated in it while she popped the end of her chocolate into her mouth. The commotion from those playing, mostly the one who had just won had her breaking into a smile as she turned to toss the wrapper away but as she did her eyes fell instantly onto the tall figure in the small crowd. The way her heart instantly started pounding away in her chest made her instinctively want to turn around and run, but she had already done so once before and where did that get her? For a second, he was all she saw, taking him in from afar. He looked the same and yet very different at the same time - nothing to do with the costume he was currently wearing either. Stepping around the bin she slowly approached him, finally taking in the others around then once again which also meant she saw who he was with. Oh. Oh shit. The little girl with him, made her rethink the thought of turning to run but before she could do anything she had been seen. Somehow, she managed to continue closing the space between the two, not enough to reach out and touch him but close enough to it. “Hi..” She breathed out. “It’s..” Good to see you? That sounded weird to say. “Been a while.” She attempted a smile although it hardly showed. Long enough to have a kid, didn’t she know it. Was this karma? Someone in the universe must’ve been having a laugh but definitely not her, no, she felt more nauseous than anything else in that moment. @evandonahue​

FALL FESTIVAL & FRIGHT NIGHT

“That’s not so much surprising.” She commented. Most people seemed to be forgetful, needing no help from the fact that they were growing a tiny person inside of them. Annoying, sure. “The cravings I’ve heard people have gotten though...” she tilted her head, almost getting lost in thought. She had experienced some of her own and recalling such a thing made her chest tighten. Taking a deep breath she played off the tension in her shoulders with a smile. “Now that, I find strange. What makes someone crave dirt, ya know?”

Always one to prepare, as soon as she’d discovered Lexie was pregnant, Mara checked out What to Expect When You’re Expecting from the library. “Did you know that ‘pregnancy brain’ is an actual, scientifically proven phenomenon? Apparently, pregnant people have less oxygen in their blood, which causes forgetfulness…”
