You know what one of my favorite things about the Ace Attorney series is?

The fact that they gave Edgeworth the power of logic.

Alright, let me back up and give a little context. Throughout the Ace Attorney series, there are four different people (not including Phoenix’s ancestor) you can play as: Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice, Athena Cykes, and Miles Edgeworth (in the Investigations games). Each of these characters has their own special “power” to help them gain information, expose lies, and get closer to the truth. 

Phoenix has a magatama he can use to unlock the locks on people’s heart, or whatever. (Spiritual power, shmiritual power) Basically, he throws evidence at people until they admit to stuff.

Apollo is a walking lie detector with a magical lie-detecting bracelet. (Yeah, yeah, they try to explain it by saying the bracelet is made of a special heat-sensing alloy, but come on. Definitely magic.)

Next up is Athena, who can hear “the noise in people’s hearts” (aka she’s an empath) and uses “analytical psychology” to expose inconsistencies in people’s testimony (basically just more magical lie detecting).

So, what powers do we have so far? A magatama that sees the locks on people’s hearts. A bracelet that detects lies. A mood matrix that senses people’s emotions. All pretty cool, unique powers that give each character not only individuality but also a very clear advantage when it comes to figuring out the truth.

And what power does Edgeworth get? Logic.

He has a fucking “Logic” button.

No mysterious lie detection. No magical mind-reading. No spiritual mumbo-jumbo. Just plain old logic. And you know what? It’s actually on par with everyone else’s powers.

Because it is common knowledge among the other characters that Edgeworth is a capable, competent, intelligent guy. Apollo and Athena, at least, are definitely a little intimidated by Edgeworth, and the only reason Phoenix isn’t is because he’s known Edgeworth for a long time.

So, I don’t know, it just cracks me up a little that logic is basically considered a superpower in the Ace Attorney universe. It’s also kinda hilarious that logic being Edgeworth’s power implies no other main character can possess the power of logic (which, I mean, is pretty accurate).

In the end, the real superpower is just not being a total dumbass. Case in point:
