Bill’s right, doors can’t keep him out forever — isn’t that why they are in this mess in the first place? He created a door and Bill clawed and bit and scratched his way through it and into this dimension. Ford has to give him credit, persistence like that must be exhausting. 

He’s prepared this time, though — he’s spent thirty years mulling over his mistakes, his shortcomings; he was not prepared last time, blissfully unaware of the trickery, of Bill’s tenacity. He will not be caught lacking, at least if he can help it. That’s why special cases were crafted to house his research, that’s why his safeguards have safeguards. Can never be too cautious, can never be too safe. He’ll never get in, especially without his powers.

It must come as some kind of shock when the door is unlocked and opened, right? Ford still blocks the doorway but he knows well that’s not going to stop Bill. 

          “ Fine, ”     he says flatly, but there is no hiding the ghost of a smile on his lips. For once, he feels like he has a leg up,     “ Have it your way, Cipher. ”

There's an over exaggerated groan at the remark, his claws still stuck underneath the doorway. If only his limbs could still stretch, opening this door would be a cinch! Instead he's stuck here, scratching at the wooden floors like some lowly feline. He briefly entertains the notion of sparking up his flames to get the point across, but things aren't that dire. Yet, anyways. Even if he is a little desperate to see the notes he'd put together after their last look into the rifts, it's not like he can hide them forever anyways! This is a pretty small little sailboat! He'd really just rather read up on how the Nightmare Realm's doing sooner rather then later.

"C'MON SIXER, YOU KNOW DOORS CAN'T KEEP ME OUT FOREVER! YOU MIGHT AS WELL JUST OPEN UP NOW AND SAVE US BOTH THE HASSLE!"

It was a bad idea to be here — if his family knew he was here… well, he fears to think of what they would say or think. For all of his wisdom, he knows that he makes bad decisions when faced with Bill — always has, since they met. First it was naivety, now it stems from panic and anger and a deep, burning need to understand. He knows that the pages in that book were meant to be a manipulation — it was all perfectly crafted to drive Ford mad searching for the answers and the hidden meanings, wasn't it? Maybe this was him falling right into Cipher’s trap. Maybe this was him rising above it. 

He lets them both stew in another few moments of silence as he assesses the damage to Bill’s form. Had this been a different time, one when he wasn’t wise to Bill’s deception and didn’t live through his destruction, he may have even tried to … break him out? Help him?

Oh, how time changes things. Tenderness buried under betrayal and hatred, left to rot with age. It’s almost sickening to look at him now.

          “ What  happened to you? ”     He finally says, voice carefully level.

Time works strangely here. Bill doesn’t know how long it’s been since he’s arrived, but it feels like a very long time. It also feels like it’s only been a few hours. He can’t be sure which it is, or if it’s either at all. That’s the way it’s supposed to be, a feature of the “care” provided: There is a serenity in existing outside of time, kept in this permanent state of lingering. Supposedly, it helps heal.

Bill hates it. He already existed outside of time; the version here just feels like nothingness, suspension without motion. And he can’t see the stars. It’s like being pressed flat in the way ᴛʜᴇʏ were. 

So all of this is bad enough as it is without someone showing up to gloat—but Sixer always was arrogant. Bill gambled on that arrogance and failed, so now it’s come back to humiliate him. He sits on the other side of the panel, the crack in his body glimmering with iridescent static, and glares.

          “𝚆𝙴𝙻𝙻.   𝙸𝚝   𝚠𝚊𝚜   𝙰𝙻𝚆𝙰𝚈𝚂   𝚖𝚢   𝚓𝚘𝚋   𝚝𝚘   𝙴𝙽𝙻𝙸𝙶𝙷𝚃𝙴𝙽   𝚢𝚘𝚞.”          His voice is strange, slightly glitched.          “𝚆𝙷𝚈   𝚊𝚛𝚎   𝚢𝚘𝚞   𝚑𝚎𝚛𝚎,   𝚂𝙸𝚇𝙴𝚁?”

The summer sun had finally set behind the pines, taking the suffocating heat with it — not that Ford was affected by it much. The lab under the shack had the benefit of staying cool, surrounded by the cool Earth. Books are scattered across already cluttered surfaces — spell books, academic texts and his own past research. He poured over them with such fervor that he had forgotten to come up and greet Dipper’s guest all day, completely losing himself to his studies. This spell is broken, however, when his nephew’s voice cuts through the silence. Great Uncle Ford? Is now a good time?

          “ Hm? Oh, sorry! Yes, come in, ”     Ford looks up abruptly from his work, snapping a few of the books closed before turning his direction over. It’s a little silly — @ritualcore, the boy that looms behind Dipper, is much taller, and yet it seems as though he wants nothing more than to fade into Dipper’s shadow. Ford wears a smile.

          “ Ah, Benji! I have heard quite a lot about you — come, sit! We have much to discuss. ”

imagining the little meeting/viewing room in the theraprism to be covered in motivational posters and drawings from patients. glow in the dark stickers on the barrier separating the rooms to foster an environment of happiness and peace! but also it's only ever used for the most high profile and dangerous max security patients so it's like. also got cameras everywhere and "behavior modification" equipment and shit. wild!

Ford is nothing but pleased when Dipper invites a few of his friends to stay in Gravity Falls with him for the summer. He’s pleased to see him flourishing in all the ways he never did at his age. He’s grateful. And most of all, he is relieved. He was worried that Dipper took after him a little too much — he’s happy to see he was wrong. 

It hadn’t even been a full day since they arrived in Gravity Falls before Mabel had planned the “family and friends summer swimming hole picnic bonanza”, and no amount of excuses would get him out of it — was there ever any saying no to her? If he is honest with himself, he didn’t put up much of a fight, anyways. He would hate to disappoint her. 

He had already been pushed into the river twice by the time he was able to escape his family’s clutches, towel draped over his sopping wet hair as he joins @unpossession under the shade of a tree. With a soda an in each hand, he offers one to her with a smile. The heat from the summer air causes a thick layer of condensation to form on the aluminum.

          “ Greetings, ”     there is a wide, shy smile spread across his lips,     “ May I join you here? I think you may have the best spot in the house. ”

There are dimensional backdoors everywhere, and throughout his travels through the multiverse he had familiarized himself with quite a few of them. Finding a place outside of time and space proved difficult, but with a little asking around and some determination he found where he was looking for.

It’s not quite what he imagined, though he wasn’t entirely sure what to imagine — that’s the thing about the multiverse — there is so much more beyond what humans are taught to understand. The creatures and entities that worked staff at the Theraprism were pleasant and friendly, muttering in their mother tongues something that Ford didn’t quite understand, but he thinks he gets the gist — excitement, relief even — when he asks if he may visit a patient within.

Ford is ushered into a room not too unlike one in prisons back on Earth — some shimmering, transparent material separates two rooms, only three tiny holes in the middle to allow speech. They are monitored. There are eyes everywhere. Ford crosses his arms over his chest, fists clenched tight as @fyramids is ushered into the opposing room. 

What a pitiful state he is in. Ford’s lips press together in a tight line as he settles down further into his seat. Arms crossed, legs crossed. Defensive. Ready.

          “ I don’t imagine it was very easy to drop a book in my lap like that, Cipher, ”     his voice lacks any warmth. He pushes his glasses further up his nose,     “ It was very... enlightening. ”
