Me when Arcane says that violence is a cycle that always always has collateral damage and it will hurt innocent people no matter how righteous the motives behind it and possibly the worst thing about it is that those innocent people will no longer be innocent and become the very perpetrators of a system that oppressed them
But also that sometimes violence is a necessary evil because maybe the crueler thing is to sit idly by and allow people to suffer for generations and maybe action, even cruel action, is needed for change and in an unfair system no matter what choice you make can truly absolve you of blame for the hurt people have suffered and sometimes the most damaged victims of this system are just going to try and burn it to the ground even if it kills everyone and maybe it was a bad thing to do but you understand perfectly why they did it and that they're not the original villain here and that's what makes it so tragic.

Vi is possibly the most tragic character to me, if only in the sense that she always has the best intentions, and she always tries to do what she thinks is right, except for those few moments where she is clouded by grief.
She’s on the bridge with Powder, trying to keep her safe from this large man whose intentions they do not know, and then she sees her mother, and she just breaks down.
She tries to turn herself in, to right the wrongs that she has made, and then Benzo’s dead and Ekko is in her arms and she just grabs her siblings and goes after Vander without thinking it through, telling Powder you’re not ready because she’s just trying to hold onto the last good thing she has.
She’s standing over Vander’s corpse and she hears her little sister and she thinks you weren’t ready you weren’t ready you’re a jinx jinx jinx and then she looks down at her bleeding knuckles and she can’t do this she can’t be here so she walks away, and then she turns and she tries to go back. She tries to do the right thing and she’s taken away before she can take any action.
She tries to go back, to be the sisters they once were, she tries to keep things good between Powder and Caitlyn except too much has changed, she doesn’t know what’s going on, there’s people fighting them, and she just looks and she sees sweet innocent Powder mowing people down like it’s fun.
She’s tied to that chair with Silco’s body across from her and she’s grieving she’s mourning the loss of the little sister she knew and she’s trying to fix things with the little sister she has and all she can do is plead with Jinx that they can be ok, they can still fix this.
But Caitlyn is unconscious on the floor, and a rocket is fired across a blood red sky.
There is no fixing, only building anew

This this this right here is getting to me. Gif is from @terrapia
Yeah you could argue this parallels Silco but it doesn’t really. Silco didn’t want to give up jinx because she’s his daughter. Sevika doesn’t want to give up jinx because she’s a zaunite
And you know who that reminds me of so fucking much?
That’s Vander’s ideology right there. Vander could have done like Grayson suggested, picked any rando off the streets to take the fall for the apartment explosion, but he wouldn’t, because those are his people.
Vander was weak and Vander was a coward but Sevika followed him once, and there was a reason for that
Silco may have been the Eye of zaun, but Vander is its Heart, and that heart is still fucking beating

Cassandra implementing the ventilators actually fixes a plot-hole(?) from season 1 and perfectly aligns with the timeline, because we see in S1E2 that topsiders needed masks to go into the Undercity with Grayson and Marcus, but when Vi and Caitlyn go to the Undercity in S1E5 which is set years after, Caitlyn breathes down there just fine without the need for a mask.

I love Mel and I'm glad so many people agree on her beauty, she is a gorgeous, breathtakingly majestic black woman and I'm glad she's appreciated but istg mfs only ever talking about how attractive she is rather than her intelligence and complex morality.
Everyone wants a morally grey woman character until she's black suddenly it's crickets in the crowd. Ik it's not usually intentional but (typically white) people have such an inate unwillingness to discuss poc (Especially woc) characters beyond surface level and it's annoying asf

The only people in Arcane thus far acting with any sort of decency are Ekko & Mel. While they're on opposite sides of the river, both have been through hell and back in the last week(?) or so and they're still prioritizing peace and preserving life. Other characters should take notes. Just saying.

This is NOT an anti-Caitlyn post, but it's sort of comical how she can't even take her own advice. In season 1 when Ekko wanted to use the hextech gemstone to go against Silco, Caitlyn wisely told him that killing Silco wouldn't accomplish anything constructive (and as we see, she was right.) But when the shoe is on the other foot and it's her people on the chopping block...
One thing about them tables? They'll turn on your ass.

something so sickening about how people were dragging mel through the mud in season 1 when the worst she did was manipulating jayce into joining the council and gaining more political influence as a councilor herself but the minute people criticize caitlyn for her immediate embrace of militaristic rule (and biochemical war crimes?? hello??) and accurately call out the nature of the privileged to fall back into fascism and prejudice at the slightest hardship, you all suddenly want to engage with her complexity as a character with "intellectual interest" and an "appreciation for morally grey characters in fiction", and acknowledge the effects of grief on mental health.... absolutely insane behavior
#lets all be honest with ourselves now#i think we all know why people talk about mel and caitlyn differently#the way you people so easily woobify a main actor in oppression and state enforced violence because theyre ur fave...#didnt know we were pinkwashing police brutality now#arcane spoilers#arcane zaun#arcane season 2#arcane s2#arcane piltover#piltover and zaun#caitlyn kiramman#mel medarda

*jigsaw voice* hello arcane fandom in front of you there is a well written character showing how easy it is to fall into fascist rhetoric you can either appreciate her for what she stands for or you can write entire twitter threads trying to justify every single one of her choices because liking a 'bad' character makes you bad yourself. Chose wisely

I would like to apologize to the writers of Arcane for assuming they’d go soft on their depictions of cops. Damn. That’s some fascism you got there

Please, the way the Arcane fandom is woobifying Caitlyn's descent into fascism is laughable. Yes, let's coddle & victimize the rich privileged chick who went full villain after just a small taste of what the people from Zaun deal with on a daily basis. Let's sit here & cheer her on as she gasses civilians & make them pay for the actions of one person. Let's call her a girl boss after hearing her family state the people of the undercity deserve the basic necessity of clean air to breath & then turn around & use the ventilation system to kill them instead. Let's literally ignore all of that because she's 1/2 of your favorite ship yeah? Smh y'all are so shallow & it shows.

I just saw a tiktok trying to compare Caitlyn(Arcane) to Ellie (tlou2) and I...
People are so...
ELLIE KILLED A LOT OF PEOPLE. YES. HOWEVER, SHE WAS NOT CRASHING OUT AT A DISENFRANCHISED POPULATION OF PEOPLE FROM A POSITION OF PRIVILEGE OR POWER OVER THEM. WHAT IS NOT CLICKING.
Idk if it wwas a joke or not but either way I saw someone saying like 'oh i wonder if they'd like Cailtyn more if she was butch' WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE PRICE OF TEA IN CHINA CAITLYN IS A FASCIST AND JUSTIFYING SAID FASCISM WITH HER OWN GRIEF AND ANGER. THAT IS WHY PEOPLE DON'T LIKE HER RN.

Guys..criticizing fascism and political revolutionary writing in Arcane is NOT toxicity. It's actually pretty important we discuss these things. It's not purity politics to discuss representation in media. This is actually a pretty important topic to discuss and think critically about.

arcane s2 spoilers i guess but my favorite caitlyn moment in this season by far is her conversation with vi when she's trying to convince her to be an enforcer. like immediately vi rejects that and says something like "u want me to be an enforcer? after what they did to my parents? do you understand how that feels?" and CAITLYN'S response is just a perfect showcasing of her misunderstanding of the system. like this is right after she lost her mother to jinx so her response is something like "yes i do". like caitlyn believing that she has been personally victimized by the system through jinx's act of rebellion the same way vi has by losing her parents to enforcers. which is just objectively not true because the violence of jinx and silco and zaun in general will never be state sanctioned. like an enforcers job is to weild violence FOR the state to enforce the status quo and oppress those at the bottom. which is why vi's parents died while they were Rebelling against the state. And we literally see this state sanctioned violence in action when we See caitlyn and vi decide to literally poison the underground. like fundamentally jinx's rebellion is so so different to that but caitlyn is unable to see it because she thinks that all of the violence being enacted is equal in its power, which it isnt. and i think its just such a good moment to show that not even rlly slow slide into fascism by her
