hey all, sorry as always to keep asking for help. i work 100% commission, which means my checks vary a lot. i'm the sole support for myself, my wife, and our senior cat while we are homeless.

we were doing pretty good there for a moment but because of the way my pay is doled out, my last few checks have been pretty short, and it's catching up with us. we'll be good on weekly rent, but i'll need transport, a credit card bill comes out on the 20th, our phone bill comes out on the 22d, and we're also needing some household supplies including toiletries and medication. we're looking for 200+ to cover weekly needs.

in the interest of full disclosure i have also recently had to drop down to part time due to severe mental health struggles, and while i'm hoping to maintain a similar level of pay by being able to work better/harder while i'm there, anything that can ease the transition is super appreciated. the amount here will have our very very very basic needs met, but quite frankly it's fucking hard to live with like 5 bucks left after every single check or round of donations gone to necessities, so... idk, consider this a minimum, not a ceiling, i guess. next check will probably be in the same range (under 600) and we'll have more expenses coming up at that point as july winds down. my wife is also in need of a doctor's appointment to touch base with her HRT. i'm considering setting up a kofi, a gfm, or something that would let us receive assistance at any point rather than only when we're "in crisis" because... quite frankly we have been in crisis for over a year now and i don't think we can get out of that without help.

I wish depression were an emergency. I wish someone could take one look at how sick I am and go “oh my god, we need to get you to a hospital!” and then when we get there I get rushed into surgery and the surgeons say “it’s a good thing you brought her here when you did, this is a seriously advanced case” and then they put me under and spend the next ten hours pulling metres of long, sticky black strands of gunk out of my body, throwing it immediately into an incinerator so that it can’t infect anyone else. And then they could stitch me back up and I could rest a few days, and when I leave the hospital everyone can see how much better I am and they congratulate me saying “well done, you’ve been so brave, I’m so glad you’re ok. I love you.”

We really have lost the plot when it comes to pulp (by which I mean fiction that prioritizes the pleasure and enjoyment of the reader above all else.) It feels like a lot of modern books can't decide whether they are pulp or not, and that really limits them, because they get tangled up in anxiety about the nature of what they're doing and its moral or artistic value. To write great pulp, sublime pulp, you can have no illusions that your goal is pleasure - and we need pulp! It serves an essential social purpose - to give us space to explore our drives and desires that would be dangerous or impossible to live out in reality. It's psychologically essential.
