its midnight and i'm thinkin about young again... was conceptualising his weapon/magic.

magic wise, i don't imagine he has all the classic powers? i think a variant of teleportation and probably weaker variants of gravity manipulation and bone attacks. thinking about barring gaster blasters or have itty bitty stupid tiny ones that are lowkey a little pathetic.

expanding on the teleportation, a swapping ability except it only applies to himself and other people/objects. so he could switch himself and an apple, but not an apple and an orange. a short cooldown but my boy has shit magic he's not fighting for long anyway

more interestingly, thinking spear/polearm or bo staff? something medium-ranged designed to keep his opponent at literal arms length. probably bone so it's summonable but a traditional wood (+metal) weapon is a fun idea and definitely his preferred weapon

extra bg hypothesis

perhaps a ruin caretaker briefly, apprenticing under toriel? he lives in the forests of snowdin currently but he used to live with toriel as a kid, and still pays her visits. his choice to leave the ruins was heart wrenching and toriel can't face him, his company aggravates and similtaneously soothes the hurt. the ruin doors never open for young again, although its caretaker will sit at the door and talk.

trying to factor in papyrus into this. maybe they aren't brothers in a traditional sense but young paps sees this self-isolating wreck of a teen and attaches to him like limescale to hard-water kettle (bitch to clean)

went for a slightly scarier moment here, he's a very silly lad but i do imagine he could definitely be scary. what is silly goober without occasional terror-inducement? drawing's a bit scruffy but overall really fun to draw :))

first coloured sketch of him! still figuring out colour palette but i'm much inclined to the teals/greens :D

insofar of soul colour symbolism, I think green (kindness), teal (patience) and blue (integrity) work quite well as central themes to his story. maybe blue is something he works towards, finding the truth for himself and what that means for others, and it reflects in his outfit; changing over the course of the story.

building on his scrapes/healing factor— he recovers hp relatively well when knocked down to 0.8-0.9hp (i.e. constant scrapes, they heal after hp is recovered) but up to 0.3/0.35hp? he gets a fever as his body kicks into recovering.

fevers are usually induced by your immune system playing 'who can burn to death first', but i imagine his body develops fever as his magic bursts into overdrive (creating heat, chemical reactions idk i didn't continue chemistry).

the low end of that and of course, lower is fatal. i'd imagine >0.2hp he can recover without lasting damage if left alone to heal. i suppose he wears items that increase his defence stat, to avoid this. without it, he's very vulnerable.

in all fairness, he's a very entertaining character. doodling some concepts of my little guy, although the outfit and name of the universe may be retconned. outfit cuz i think i could do better? and au name bc it sounds more like young the adjective rather than the surname. although I suppose my guy is younger, more early-mid twenties, even if that wasn't the intent with the name lol.
