Thinking about Kaeya, about free will, fate, and greek tragedy. His character is very deeply rooted in and guided by this conflict between Mond and the life that he's made himself and Khaenri'ah and the life that's been set out for him. It's a very valid conflict, and one he seems to have arrived at a solid decision about -- to choose Mond as his home above the other. But, I mean. Oedipus came to Thebes to escape his fate. Medea thought she could be safe in Colchis. You can run, but what are the chances you're running back into the arms of fate? Which I guess is a really pretentiously roundabout way of saying: to what extent are his lives in Mond vs. Khaenri'ah different? Imagine if, when it comes to the crunch, choosing Mond is exactly what his father and whoever else wanted him to do? Imagine running from your destiny all your life and finding that choosing to make your own has only led you back to where you were running from. Seems about the kind of rotten luck he'd get
