The sun began to set as they relaxed into a silence that made neither of them feel like they had to fill it with idle chatter. Old friends taking in the moment and enjoying the briefest seconds of peace before the next horrific adventure began.

"You ever think about leaving this place? Night City?" V asked as she took in the scenery, breaking the long silence with a thought she'd been mulling over.

"That a joke or did you forget I'm on a fucking leash?" Johnny said.

V rolled her eyes, "I meant before, when you weren't just a shitty hitchhiker in my brain."

Johnny let out a long sigh, "this gonna be one of those heart to heart moments where I spill my greatest fears, hopes, and dreams?"

"I already know your greatest fear. And as for hopes and wishes, it mainly has to do with getting your body back and screwing over corpo-cunts as much as possible before you drink, smoke, and fuck yourself to death."

Johnny was impressed at how accurate she actually was, but was certain she had no idea what he was most afraid of, "think you know my greatest fear?"

"I don't think I do, I know it. I know because it's the same fear everyone has in Night City, the same one that drives me to do half the reckless, insane shit that I do." V leaned back against him.

"Enlighten me then, what's Johnny Silverhand's greatest fear?"

V was silent for a few seconds before finally answering, "being forgotten."

Her words hung over both of them, a weight they knew was always lingering but that was only brought to light when mentioned. The truth was that neither of them had anyone to carry on their memory besides each other and once V kicked the bucket, Johnny would go with her. Everything they'd done, their entire lives left hanging on the miniscule possibility that they find someone, anyone, who would cherish them long enough to hold onto a piece of them after they were gone. But the fact of the matter was that they'd both already found that person, just not in the way it needed to be and the chances of finding another soul who fit so perfectly with their own was almost nonexistent.

"Really know how to fuck up a moment, don't you?" Johnny sighed.

"That's what I do best." V shrugged as they sank into another solemn moment together.
