One scenario that always makes me soft:

Imagine your romantic fo having a really, really bad day, and coming home during the late evening. You (or s/i) hears the click of the front door of your shared house/flat etc. and hears the slow shuffle of their footsteps into the shared bedroom/or your bedroom without speaking and a face about to cry. They see you in the bed, cuddled up with blankets, your phone and with a warm drink. Once you spot your fo, your face falls, you ask them what's wrong softly. It almost breaks them. They shake their head, still saying nothing. Slowly, they shake off their outside clothes and just... crawl under the covers with you. They turn from you, on their stomach and face into pillow. You pet their head/hair, gently, softly humming. After a short while of silence from them, they quietly ask you if you can please hold them. (Bonus if they are usually the "big spoon"). You nod and hold their head to your chest while they throw a leg over/entwine yours and wrap their arms around your middle. They look up at you from your chest. You notice their dark eye circles. You smile sadly down at them as you palm their cheek, smoothing tiny circles on their cheek with your thumb. They give a shaky exhale and nuzzle and kiss into your palm. Once they press their face back into your chest, you kiss the top of their head and sleep together that night in that position.

They would never want someone better looking than you, that's not even possible. You're perfect. They don't even really notice what anyone else looks like because they have no reason to. You're the most beautiful person in the world to them.

They don't want someone easier to deal with than you, they want you. And they don't ever see you as a bother or see taking care of you and comforting you as annoying, but even if they ever did, you are worth all the trouble in the world to them. You are the one they love, and they will do anything to make you happy. They're not putting up with you, they love you.

but then, suddenly, a slip up. either literally or they make a mistake. or unintentionally misremember something. worst of all? you notice.

they may grumble or are just very embarrassed. you saw through it, they can't believe it. especially if you can't help but laugh.

yet you reassure them right away. after all, there's no need to impress them when you're always impressed with them.

how do they react to that? do they try to play it off as ‘of course you are!’ or are they blushing from embarrassment and can hardly talk?

they appreciate hearing it either way. and they're always impressed with you too!

Whatever you do, don’t think about your f/o in the pining stage before you two get together. Them sneaking glances at you which turn into stares because they just can’t help themselves. Thinking about you when they’re trying to sleep at night, holding a plushie and imagining it’s you instead. Oh what they wouldn’t give to hold you like that…

When they finally get a chance to talk to you, they’re soooo nervous that they’re stumbling over their words trying to think straight. It’s just so hard to focus when they’re trying to not get lost in yours eyes. During the conversation they say anything even if it’s silly just to keep it going. When it’s over they’re already missing you. They can’t wait to talk to you again. In the meantime, they’ll be hoping it eventually turns in something more.

🪽: it’s alright ! i do not blame you, you never needed to be taught such a thing. you meant well !

🌟: haha, right…

[🌟 looks away, embarrassed, before 🪽 puts their hand on his shoulder.]

[🌟 stands up instantly and grabs 🪽 by the arm, pulling him onto his feet and out of the front door. it seems 🌟 wants to move past the subject quickly. 🪽 is simply happy to be with him.]
