Buttoneyes gives a strange prophecy, and Major Tom is so over all the funky weirdness. Can you honestly blame him? Despite having the youngest features, he's actually the oldest of the Cracked Actor crew. He's been putting up with all their shit forever.

And Dog? who is the Dog? oh my goodness, his collar tags have a diamond on them...could it be?

yep. That's the Diamond Dog!

Didn't he have a ziggy face before? and a human half? He sure did, astute readers! So why the dog half now? What's got his attention so much that he's bowling poor Tom over on the stairs to go bark?

Cracked Actor Comic pg 4

I’m so very pleased with how this one came out. It was one of those art things where everything that I tried spur-of-the-moment looked great. The profile behind the dog on the second panel was totally free handed, the coloring technique on the crystal balls was something new, and I’ve been playing with the new tools on a Clip Studio Paint EX to make a more realistic hair texture. I love this program.

And as always, I love drawing Jareth being a brat. He’s found something in that crystal ball image that will allow him to stir up some trouble, and loves that. Stay tuned for Cracked Actor Comeback pg 5!

I love a good reason to draw alien Ziggy. Painted behind him is a depiction of one of my favorite space things: the Helix Nebula, which looks an amazing amount like a human eye. After the more subdued palettes of my more recent art pieces, it was more than time for a pop of color. Ziggy’s design here is based on a race of aliens I made up ages ago called Aresians (Yknow…but Ares= Mars). Not pictured are the pointed ears or fangs, but it was fun to give him some glowing irises and claws regardless.

we're doing some things a little differently this time around. No more one-shots for this section. This is gonna be a nice long one with lots of good story stuff for you guys!

Featuring the first of the new characters: Buttoneyes! David described him as a blind oracle, so here he is, doing this thing. And Major Tom is pretty over his shit

I'm going to have at least one page done per week, but some weeks might have more if i'm feeling heckin inspired or have easier pages to draw and color :)

Over ten years ago I drew the first/pilot page of a comic I used to draw called Cracked Actor. It was drawn on mixed media sketchbook paper in pencil, manga ink pens, and prisms color colored pencils. The premise being all of David’s personas living together under the same roof and all the shenanigans they’d get up to together. It was a very well liked comic in the Bowie Fandoms on DeviantART and Tumblr, and even inspired fans of it to draw and submit their own pages. What fun!

I’ve been reminiscing on the goofball one-shot styles and while reading back through the old pages, I had the chance to see just how far my art and knowledge of pacing and storytelling in a comic page have come, and decided to redraw the first page to give myself a chance to truly compare them. It’s been so much fun returning to these guys and getting to explore their personalities again. I’m incredibly pleased with how evident my progress is between the two pages.

I’ve posted the original beside the new one. I think the pacing of the new page definitely works better, and love that this gives all of their personalities a chance to shine too. I even ended up having more ideas for other pages while drawing this, so possibly stay tuned for more Cracked Actor!

“Letting It All Hang Out”

Happy 77th Birthday, David Bowie! I’ve had a lot of fun working on this one. It started as just a silly idea and a good way to draw a lot of his costumes to practice textures. When I first started sketching, I hadn’t expected it to take over a year to complete, but I knew this one wasn’t to be rushed, but to be enjoyed to the fullest extent. I truly enjoyed studying photographs of each costume, both the beautiful detailed and well-lit pictures from the V&A museum exhibit, but also those captured over the years while the costumes were in use for performances, music videos, and movies. Every article of clothing here (even the ones in the basket (deep in the basket even!) and on David himself) are actual items worn throughout his career. I’m so super curious to see if anyone can name them all. I think my favorites to do were also the ones that were the hardest to capture, such as the Pierrot outfit on the far left and the Yamamoto piece in the center. {Unofficial} Labyrinth Tarot- 6 The Lovers

The Lovers card represents pure consensual and supportive love, especially that of a romantic couple. They empower and strengthen each other, working as a cohesive team. The card can also represent the choice of commitment and can represent sacrifices you might have to make for love such as time, money, and energy.

In the movie, we don’t see very much of Sarah’s father and stepmother, but what we do get to see is a couple who are excited to engage romantically with each other (they’re going on a dinner date!), are sensually active (hello Toby!) and support each other as parents both with their new baby, and with the father’s child from a previous marriage. We see her bicker with Sarah, but she does try to offer compromise and understanding, albeit a tad harsh. I would imagine she and Sarah’s father were probably pretty worried about Sarah since she was “an hour late” and it was beginning to storm. This was the era of “do you know where your children are?”, after all. Watching this movie as an adult, it’s interesting to look at the perspective of the parents here as well. As a kid, her father’s quick word before they leave seems callous and rushed, but as an adult, they were likely rushing out the door because of a reservation hitching closer to time than they planned due to Sarah’s late arrival. It even sounds like they tried to make the night as easy as possible for her by feeding the baby and putting him to bed before they left.

All in all, I think that Sarah’s parents get a worse rep than deserved because the movie is shown from Sarah’s perspective, and she starts the movie as a bit of a brat. It makes me wonder how their relationship might change after the events of the movie.
