Ryleigh did not respond right away. She just seemed to freeze, shattering his confidence.

Poseidon: "As friends of course!"

Ryleigh: "Sure Pos, that sounds like fun."

Poseidon: "Great!"

After they got ready for bed, they stayed up chatting about lighter topics for just a little longer. Poseidon spent the whole time just trying to ask a seemingly simple question.

Poseidon: "Soooo Prom is coming up and I was wondering if you wanted to go with me?"

He slowly took her hand in his, hoping that he could offer her strength.

Poseidon: "I hope you know how strong you are to still be kind after going through all of that. It's not a solution, but I hope you know that I will be here for you whatever you need."

Ryleigh: "Thank you, Pos, for listening."

They walked in silence for a while as Poseidon processed the whole story.

Poseidon: "Ry, I can't even begin to fathom the pain that you have gone through. I mean my dad gave up on being a parent, but I can't imagine not having my mom as the rock of our family. I wish I had a solution for you, but I really don't know what to say."

Ryleigh: "Last night, I just couldn't do it again, so I hung out with you instead. Apparently, she got caught. Now it's just going to start up again."

Poseidon: "Have you tried talking to your dad?"

Ryleigh: "I tried when it first started to get bad, but his solution was that I should just try and get along with her."

Ryleigh: "Then one day she asked me to cover for her so she could go to a party. My immediate reaction was no, but she said it would help her to be less angry if she could get out of the house for a while. So I did it and she pushed me around less, so I did it again, but I hated keeping up with the lies."

Ryleigh: "The first night she moved in was when I finally met Natalia. We actually bonded over how much we hated this situation and our parents' relationship. I thought I had found an ally, but I was wrong. She decided to take out her pent up anger on me instead."

Ryleigh: "At the beginning of high school, he met Adriana, Natalia's mom. I figured she would be his girlfriend of the week, like the others. Then they went away for the weekend and got married. Suddenly, the kind, happy dad was gone over night. He loses himself in relationships and she is the worst."

Ryleigh: "They decided to give parenthood a try, but my mom gave up when I was still a baby. My dad did the best he could and my childhood was mostly good. The worst parts were when he got a new girlfriend and she became his world for a little while."

Ryleigh heaved a deep sigh and slowly looked over at him.

Ryleigh: "It's a long story."

Poseidon: "I'm willing to listen if you want to talk about it."

Ryleigh: "Alright, but I warned you."

Poseidon and Ryleigh decided to go for a walk. There were so many unanswered questions hanging between them that Poseidon struggled to know where to start.

Poseidon: "I'm sorry if my mom or Kade were too pushy. They mean well."

Ryleigh: "Pos, you never need to apologize for having a family that cares."

Poseidon felt like Ryleigh could use a distraction so he did what Daphy always did for him. They played hopscotch and temporarily forgot all of the pain of the day.

Hera could see through the mask that Ryleigh was wearing. The girl was struggling. She wrapped her in a hug that she hoped conveyed how willing she was to listen.

Poseidon: "Alright mom, we're going outside for a little while."

Hera: "Okay, okay"

Hera: "Now I don't mean to pry, but is everything okay at home? You clearly don't like your step-mom and Pos mentioned it was your stepsister that attacked you."

Ryleigh: "Everything is just fine. Natalia just needs to cool down tonight and it should be fine tomorrow."

Hera: "Well you are welcome to stay as long as you need."

A while later, Hera called Ryleigh to the dinning room for a chat.

Hera: "So I talked to your step-mom."

Ryleigh: "I'm sorry"

Hera: "Yeah, I'm not thrilled with that conversation, but she didn't seem to mind that you were staying here tonight."

Ryleigh: "Yeah, I bet."

Thea: I imagine that she would love to do something dancy and upbeat. She loves 1989 by Taylor Swift so really anything from there.

Daphne: I feel like she would surprise people by being willing to go to karaoke. Her music taste has been hard for me to pin down because it's so different than mine and yet super varied. For instance, she loves dancing to club music, but listens to emo music. I think for karaoke she might pull out a classic to jam to.

Poseidon: Of the three, he's probably the least likely to do karaoke and that's because he can actually sing. I haven't gotten to this part in the story yet, but he really enjoys singing and playing guitar. His music taste is also still developing (as I'm also still trying to figure it out). I imagine he enjoys indie singer-songwriters, but also a good chill country song. If he had to pick a song, he would probably pick a fun country song.
