Summer in Tomarang Part. 3 | The Greenways

Reign woke up the next morning energetic and nervous all at once. It was the day that she was going to meet her birth parents. What would they look like? Would they love her immediately? Reign locked the door of the resort behind her and started walking into the city, following the directions her birth mother, Stephanie gave her.

They decided to meet at a mutual location. Reign sat on the bench and looked around. She was a few minutes early. She didn't know if she wanted to be the one to wait for them or they wait for her. She wanted to see them first. At 10 a.m. on the dot, Reign looked to her left and saw a couple slowly walking towards her. Reign's heart began to beat faster and faster. This was it, no turning back. As the couple approach the bench, Reign immediately looked at the guy and her mouth dropped. It was the man that she ran into on her run the night before. She couldn't believe it was her father! No wonder he seemed so eerie familiar.

The man must have realized it too because a nervous grin appeared on his face. Reign stood up and looked at her parents. She could see features of herself in Stephanie's eyes. She had the man's smile.

Stephanie took a step forward and hesitantly touched Reign's cheek. Reign closed her eyes at her mothers touch. Suddenly she felt Stephanie's embraced. It was long and needed. Reign found out the man's name, her father, was Adam. After talking near the park, Stephanie and Adam invited Reign to their apartment.

It was a complete difference to what and how she lived. The apartment was a little run down but there was a since of community amongst the neighbors, a sort of comfort that Reign was drawn to. Stephanie and Reign began making rice together while the neighbors congregated in the courtyard, listening to music and playing games. Reign watched from the window and then it came to her; family. They all were family and they brought her into the fold with open arms.

Summer in Tomarang Part. 2 | The Greenways

Reign settled into the private villa in Tomarang (perks of being a celebrity kid) and could not wait to explore the city. She couldn't believe she was so close to meeting her biological parents, the nerves began to kick in. Reign dropped her bags in the living room and headed out back. The backyard faced the beautiful Tomarang beach. Reign walked towards the clear blue water and dug her feet in the sand. She took a deep breath and exhaled the fresh salty air.

After spending an hour on the beach, listening to the waves, Reign headed back into the villa to call her sisters and mom. She realized that she never text and said she got in safely, but knowing her mom, she probably kept looking at her location every second.

Reign put her phone on the charger after speaking with her family and decided to take a night jog into town. She heard about the night market where the people sold their native food, jewelry and clothing. Reign wanted to make sure she purchased something for her sisters. She grabbed her backpack and headed out the door. As Reign jogged into town, she was in awe of how peaceful but bustling it was. Could I live here? Reign thought as she jogged on the sidewalk. As she was about to cross the street, a man was walking from the pier and almost bumped into her. "Excuse me," he said as he continued to walk. Reign nodded but looked at him. His eyes, they seem so familiar and the way he walked, with a certain bob on his tippy toes was very similar to how she walked. This familiarity, as if she knew him, crept into Reign's body.

Summer in Tomarang Part 1. | The Greenways

Summer was finally here. The girls were out of school and Reign had been counting the days for this moment, to visit her biological parents in Tomarang for one week. She had made contact with her mother, Alana, months ago and they were in communication ever since. Alana invited Reign to Tomarang for the summer to get to know that side of the family. Reign was hesitant to spend the entire summer with family she barely knew but compromised with the first week of summer to fly over.

The day was here. Reign dropped her luggage downstairs and went to find Zabrina to say goodbye. Zabrina was in her office, trying to look busy. She didn't want Reign to go. She was happy that Reign connected with her birth parents, but she didn't like the idea of sharing her. "Mom?" Reign peered in the doorway. Zabrina looked up from typing and smiled. "I am ready to go, just wanted to say, you know, I will miss you and stuff," Reign said quietly looking down at her shoes. Zabrina got up from her desk and gave Reign the biggest hug. "I love you, my girl. I want you to have fun, stay safe and try not to worry," Zabrina said in Reign's ear. Reign smiled. She knew the only one worrying was her mother. Reign let go of Zabrina and nodded.

Genesis and Laila ran down the stairs. "Picture time!" Genesis screamed, dragging Reign outside to take a sister photo. Laila had just turned a teenager and every time Reign looked at her, she always saw Chris. Genesis was THAT GIRL; the most popular, into fashion and social media. Laila was the quiet one, into her studies and art. From time to time Genesis would pick on Laila, that had been their relationship every since they were little. Reign, being the oldest, had soft spot for Laila. She could handle Genesis.

After their photo, Reign gave her goodbye hugs to her sisters. While Genesis was walking inside, Reign pulled Laila back. "You are going to be okay right? If she messes with you, just say you will post that photo of her on social, that will get her to stop," Reign half teased. Laila giggled and then gave Reign the biggest hug. "I'm going to miss you! Please text, call, everything!" Laila begged. Reign smiled. A sudden honk of black Lincoln sedan startled the girls out of their hug. Reign waved to Laila and headed towards the car. A young gentleman got out of the driver seat to open the back door. "How are you today, ma'am?" Reign, halfway into the car looked up at the house. "I am ready for a new adventure."

A new chapter | The Greenways

As Zabrina blew out her candles with her two oldest girls behind her, she reflected on the years that came and went. From being a widow, to finding new love, to having a new baby girl. The fame was an adventure. The thought of being able to fly to Tartosa for her birthday, was something Zabrina never would have imagined. After dinner, Zabrina, Reign and Genesis headed to the night club. "I need to use the bathroom BAD!" Genesis exclaimed heading to the restroom. Zabrina headed over to the bar to get a drink and Reign looked forward and saw an empty stage with a mic. No one knew that Reign had talent outside of being a genius. She did a double look back to make sure her family was preoccupied and stepped on the stage. A crowd started to make it's way towards her. She cleared her throat and belted out the first note. Zabrina almost spilled her drink. She quickly turned around and saw her oldest daughter singing to a hype crowd. How did she not know her own daughter had a voice? Zabrina thought to herself as she made her way to the stage. Genesis was drying her hands as she exited the bathroom and looked up to see Reign dancing and singing. A huge smiled appeared on Genesis face. "I knew that girl had a wild side," Genesis said to herself as she let Reign's voice run through her body. It was birthday that Zabrina would never forget.

Zabrina's Birthday | The Greenways

It was the first birthday without Chris but it was the first birthday as a global superstar. Where Zabrina use to worry about money or bills, her new fame, her new reality was pure bliss. Zabrina had been traveling for her book tour, but now that was over, she wanted to spend time with her daughters. Zabrina's birthday was always celebrated at the house. This time, she wanted to do something adventurous.

Zabrina: Girls, pack a bag we are going to Tartosa!

Laila: What about me?

Zabrina bent down to little Laila and lifted her chin.

Zabrina: You are too young, baby. When I get back, we can do whatever you want.

Laila grinned and gave her mother a huge hug. Reign and Genesis came running down the steps with their luxury brand name night bags. They were ready to party.

The Greenway ladies headed to the airport and got on their private jet to Tartosa.

First stop, spa day. Zabrina rarely noticed people whispering and fainting every time she entered a room. It became part of her life. Genesis, who was becoming a superstar mogul in her own right loved the attention that her mother received. Reign on the other hand wished there was one day that no one noticed Zabrina and they could just have a normal girl's day. But, that isn't who her mother was anymore. She was a celebrity.

After the spa, the girls wanted to visit the beach. They had heard of the clear blue waters in Tartosa. Genesis pulled out her phone and started to live stream for her 1.2 million followers. Reign stared at the water, taking a deep breathe and exhaling. It was so beautiful.

Zabrina: Let me take a picture of you. I don't think I have any recent photos.

Zabrina crept behind Reign, interrupting her thoughts. Reign smiled. She hated photos and more importantly, she hated posing.

Zabrina: Smile.

Reign awkwardly posed. Zabrina snapped the camera. Through the lens, Zabrina hadn't really noticed how stunning Reign was becoming. She also realized that she didn't know much about the teenager Reign, the one who was about turn a young adult in a few weeks.

After the beach, the girls headed to Zabrina's favorite restaurant. Because of her celebrity status, Zabrina did not have to wait for a table and she didn't have to pay for any of the meals.

It was a nice birthday for Zabrina. She got to spend time with her older daughters and give them an experience she never had as a child.

Zabrina received the highest honor, a star on the walk of fame! With family and a special someone attending her honor, Zabrina couldn't help but think about Chris. How he would be so excited for her. "I'm with you, always..." she let Chris's words ring in her ear. He was right, he was with her, she could feel it in her heart.

Zabrina was a widow but still a great mother to three amazing girls. Life was different now without Chris. Zabrina could depend on him to watch the kids while she had a book tour or had to speak to her agent. She could depend on Chris to entertain the children while she snuck into her office to write a page or seven pages of her next best-seller. Without Chris, Zabrina realized she took a little bit advantage of him, when he was one of the biggest reasons she was so successful now. More importantly, Zabrina realized how much time she missed just hanging out with her family. She needed to be more present and without her better half, it was all on her. One summer night, instead of locking herself in her office to write, Zabrina called her daughters over to play a nice game of cards outside. She looked around table, they have all grown up so beautifully.
