more on the second honour run, we have officially made it further than the first! I'm ignoring the spectator until we're a higher level / I feel like it, so we just did everything in the Underdark and then went to Grymforge. avoiding the Nere fight for a bit, as well, cause I guess a lot of people have lost their runs there, but we took care of Grym! it only took, like, a million rounds of combat, but it's taken care of and we're all level 6 now! we only made it to level 5 last run :')

and we have successfully taken care of it!!! wasn't the plan, but it saw us, so I sent Tav to camp and sent everyone else a shit ton of barrels (probably too many, but it's fine) et voilá, spider matriarch is no more 🎉 now to deal with the underdark, which is where we lost the first run specifically to the spectator, but that damn bullette is causing issues rn

an update for how the second technically third honour run is going - we almost lost it before even making it to the tief party!

so, I'm essentially going through and doing everything I did on the original run before I lost it. meaning, we went down to take care of the spider matriarch. last time, it went fine. we got the element of surprise, I think Astarion landed a critical hit on the boss and got it down to maybe 40? hit points, and the boss never used her legendary action, even though she could've. so, I went down there with the same people, and almost lost the run twice! we didn't manage to get the element of surprise, everyone was missing their hits, and the boss used her legendary action twice. the first time round, I sent Shadowheart back to camp in case things went very poorly. Astarion was sent to the other direction, also as a failsafe (and because one of the phase spiders went that way). so, it was just Karlach and Tav,,,,,, who died. so Shadowheart brought the two of them back, I had Astarion come back to camp as well, we took a short rest, I sent them back out.

see, I thought it would bring us all to where Astarion was - so, very much out of the way, we could get a gage of where the boss is (cause she was the only one left), and go from there. yeah, no, it brought us to where Shadowheart was, which was on one of the pillars near where the boss stays. Astarion was still out of the way, though, so I sent him back to camp and tried the fight again. it didn't go so well and Astarion had to bring all three of us back. then we just left entirely and will be avoiding that well for the foreseeable future.

all this to say, make sure you have an out on honour runs. that's the only reason we still have this run smdh

listen, sometimes it's more powerful for a fictional relationship to be a friendship precisely because friendship is devalued in comparison to romance. anyone can sacrifice themself for the love of their life. but for a friend? if anything, that kind of devotion can be even more moving than if the relationship is romantic. there's a real dramatic power to prioritising friendship in your narratives sometimes.

actually starting another one cause homegirl SUCKED at dice rolls and I didn't want to get too far just for her to fail a roll that we can't necessarily afford. but I'm attempting the cleric/paladin again, cause the only reason I lost the original one was because of the spectator paralyzing literally the entire group. other than that, she hadn't died at all, the others maybe, but not Tav, so we're going with it again. I'll probably attempt the monk/thief build with Lae'zel cause as a fighter in the bigger fights, she rarely hits for me - which is probably a user error, but alas.

it's probably for the best, anyway, cause I fucked up real bad at the goblin camp and missed out on a bunch, then I lost the necromancy of thay somehow??? also I broke her oath, so fresh start!

I thought a cleric/paladin build would be good because the last time I played one, I didn't die, like, ever, but I forgot we get legendary actions here. she died to the spectator, which sucks! cause we were So Close to getting to grymforge. but alas, we're going again, this time with a monk/thief build. no idea who she's romancing, but hopefully this one will go better 🤞🏻

for the second honour attempt, it's going better than the first! at the chapel, we very nearly had a TPK, but luckily I was able to send someone out and then very carefully come back in to revive everyone and go to bed. this time, we got the element of surprise and only got to low health - no one got downed! and the attack at the grove went better, too, but it wasn't as bad as the chapel the first time, either. I'm not saying anything to jinx myself, especially because someone sucks at rolls currently, but updates :)

Gale waking up when Tav has one of their nightmares. Holding them. Comforting them. Reorienting them in the present, in the real.

Staying up with them until they're ready and able to try sleeping again.

Reading to them, either from one of their favourite books, or whatever dry, academic tome he's in the middle of analyzing—the effect is the same either way.

Singing to them, even though he's a little self-conscious about it—lilting folk songs his own mother used to sing to him when he was young, full of darkness and heartache, yet oddly comforting.

Stroking their back—long, slow sweeps—while they're nuzzled against his chest, wrapped up in the warmth and the scent of him.

Gale just being there, at all, when the night closes in and stretches on, and the mad feeling takes hold that the sun won't ever rise again.

Halsin and Izzy are now together and I think it'd confuse the hells out of her. not in a bad way, just she's a Bhaalspawn and he doesn't seem to mind? she can't give him everything you'd expect in a relationship - she's still very iffy about touch and she's always scared the Urge is going to get the best of her, so she keeps her distance from the tadfools (like, literally, she usually stands a few feet from them), and yet he does not mind.

once she bests Bhaal, I think she'll very slowly start warming up to touch, but it'll only be Halsin's. I imagine he'd pick up on this and start extending his hand to her while they're out and the others aren't near.

Izzy would seclude herself for a day after Gortash's coronation. she may have started the Absolute plot, but she's going to do everything in her power to end it* - why can't the others see that? they've been traveling with her for months now, they've seen her fight the Urges at every turn, surely they know she's just as upset and confused as they are?

*quite literally - she will be dying at the Temple of Bhaal
