To Ward a Natural Space
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a Ward that defends a natural area against those who would disrespect the land. It was taught to me by the Glaoming Folk, and I have since been given permission to share the process in hopes that others might use it to protect their own beloved ecological sites. It is worth noting that this ward only seems to have a range of about 20 to 40 feet, which I realize isn't necessarily ideal, but when strategically placed, multiple wards can be used to create a 'warding net' across an area.
To make this Ward, a switch must be harvested from a propitiated Crabapple tree, which is then split in half to create a pair of sticks measuring approximately the same length. Thereafter, a long and thin runner of blackberry bramble is collected and harvested—ideally from a place with fae activity—and is stripped of leaves. A God's Eye is then woven using the Crabapple sticks and the Blackberry brambles, working one's intent into every turn of the Weaving, before a tuft of Hare's fur is ensnared within the center of the ward. All of this must be done bare-handed, as every prick and drop of blood serves to strengthen the will of the Ward and appease the Spirit of the Blackberry, which lends its power to this magic.
The resultant device can then either be hung with twine, or simply placed in a fitting spot. It has shown itself to be quite helpful in discouraging those who would litter or mar a natural space from doing so. While littering and tree carving hasn't gone away entirely since beginning to use these, it has most certainly dropped significantly—and only in the places where they are employed.

A self-care tip for people with brain fog that's saved me just now - document how to do stuff.
I'll sometimes get confused or doubt how I do something I've done a billion times. I'll forget logins, or which folder I've saved important documents I need.
I have a login manager that sorts out logins, pins, and passwords for me.
But I also really need and rely on a free wiki-style notebook (I'm talking about notion.so, but even notes app on a mobile work great if you create a tag or folder first) where I will create a whole page about something I need to manage, write down contact info, historic info I might need to make sense of stuff going forwards, where supporting files, receipts, or documents are (in the computer as links, or in the home as directions).
I have routines associated with it written down, and break down how I do things that I know I will get muddled with (for work, it can be something simple like "directing a new domain to a webspace on my server", "setting up targeted Facebook ads", or step by step tax returns a zombie could follow.
I'll keep records of spending and repair estimates so I don't get blindsided cos I forgot that thing happened this month and threw everything else off, or that the estimate was x but the repair took place in Y and that means it affects next month.
I will make step by step to do templates in something like asana or todoist (both of these allow almost infinite subtasks) so there's no thinking involved for important stuff on bad days. I use a timer while doing them following the templates and record the time, so I know that even on my worst day, It's never taken me longer than XX minutes to do this task. And that helps me manage anxiety about how long various things will take and therefore how much energy I need/ how many spoons it will cost me. That timer is the difference between me doing something today or this weekend.
Anytime I can't follow my own to-do template, I update it so it has everything I need to just click and action the next step. Some of the steps are as simple as "download this file", "copy it and save here". But having them as unique steps I can tick off really helps on bad days, because I can see a little streak of green checks and feel like "this isn't so bad, I'm doing it, look, I'm a quarter through already".

low spoons things to feel better
for spoonies who live alone very low spoons
watch an asmr video
watch a compilation of cute animal videos
take a nap
hug your pillow or a stuffed toy
listen to white noise/nature sounds
look out of the window (while sitting/lying down) and observe people outside
if not too painful, make a blanket wrap around yourself or use a heavy blanket for grounding low spoons
call someone close and ask them to be your background noise (bonus if they tell you stories but you don't have to answer)
ask someone to come over to help you with things
order food or ask someone to bring you some food
change clothes to the comfiest thing you own a little bit more spoons
doodle something random (if not painful)
fidget with fidget toys (if not painful)
talk to a close person
watch you favourite show (even if you can't focus and it plays in the bg)
low-spoon deserts like cake in a mug or separate-ingridient sandwich
write something like a diary, a letter to future self or anything about how you feel
i dont speak for all spoonies and we all have different needs so this may not apply to everyone. i tried to be inclusive but i only have my experiences so it is ok if you aren't able to do anything from this list. you are wonderful and i love you and i wish you your own version of a good low spoon day

Remember: being in pain uses energy. There’s nothing wrong with taking a long nap or sleeping in late after being in pain all day. If you need to rest, do it; don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise.
Listen to your body and its needs.
