Would you like to help archive player-made Sims custom content and mods for a non-profit? Even become an archive admin?
Hi guys, I’ve got some really big news! Several weeks ago I mentioned how I thought that there should be a way to archive Sims content long term. While I know that there have been several attempts to archive fan-works they’ve been fraught with problems. As I’m sure you know, servers can be expensive and it’s difficult to keep them online. Sites like Sims2graveyard are good but they have the additional issue of going down themselves and only host certain kinds of content (only Custom Content for one game).
That post led me down quite a rabbit trail. After discussing the idea with some friends on a discord server I decided to send an email to The Internet Archive to request a collection. After that request I was approved and given a collection. For those of you who aren’t familiar with IA, The Internet Archive (the creator of the WayBackMachine) is a non-profit organization that hosts all sorts of data and is sponsored by The Library of Congress and Google among many others.
After creating the Sim Archive Project I got in contact with Don Hopkins (Yes, like programmer for The Sims! THAT Don Hopkins!) and talked to him about how deeply he cared for the community and their creations. He was also nice enough to make a video of the 1998 version of The Sims and also recommend some books about the history of the culture and history around video game modding.
While this is all very exciting I need your help. While I’ve been doing work to try and upload as much content to the archive as possible there’s just no way I can do all of it. While I have a group of admins who work with me to expedite the process, it’s still quite the endeavor.
If you have any old content that you want archived long term in a safe place, upload the content and a screenshot of content to the Internet Archive and send me a link to your Items by sending me an ask. It will take a while for your items to show up in the Sim Archive Project Collection. Also please remember, while files can be downloaded from the archive it should be used only as a backup service rather than your sole file service. This archive is meant to be a way to preserve files rather than just share them. We’d like to save as much notable content as we can for all of the games.
Also if you are interested in becoming an admin for the Sim Archive Project send me an ask with some info about you! We’re always looking for new admins! Thanks to everyone on the SimWorld Discord server. Special thanks to Don Hopkins, Armstrong, Tari, Alissix, and Bread Lord!
You can find the archive here!
Signal boost please!

It’s time we talk about SimsDom again.
Most of you probably already know who and what Simsdom is but for those that don’t, Simsdom (or SimsDomination) claim to essentially be a CC finds website, which in essence I suppose they are… But don’t get your hopes up for a Lana replacement because they are SO much more than that. And not in a good way.
I know this is an old subject, and most people probably thought it was all over and done with, but Simsdom is still around and what’s worse is that I’ve noticed a growing trend among my fellow Game Changers who create content for Youtuber and Twitch/Mixer of promoting the site by using it to do CC shopping haul videos and streams, which is encouraging their viewers to use Simsdom. I’m not going to name names or point fingers but it made me realise that maybe some people don’t understand just how bad Simsdom is for the community in general, but especially for the amazingly dedicated CC creators of Simblr. And it’s just so disappointing to see people that some many in the community, including myself, look up to promoting this garbage site!
If you’re curious to know why this is a problem, I’ll explain under the cut. If not, keep scrolling… But don’t say I didn’t warn you.

RANDOM SIM GENERATOR v2 (click here!)
I sometimes have trouble coming up with unique sims to populate my town as townies/NPCs for my main sims to interact with. The ‘Randomize Sim’ button almost always produces very odd and (to me) unusable sims, and let’s face it, I lack the imagination to come up with 20+ townies from scratch.
So I made a generator for that! This is a new and improved version of my previous generator. This generator will produce very simplistic but helpful ideas for a sim upon the click of a button. It includes the basics (such as skin and eye color) and also 2 defining traits (the rest can be up to you) and a colour prompt (for use in their clothing/makeup/etc). It also picks a defining feature of their face, so that you can have an idea of where to start on their face sculpting. I’ve found it immensely helpful already.
Here is an example of what it will create:
Sul sul! My name is AF. My skintone is medium/dark, my hair is black, and my eyes are grey. Some would say my most defining feature is my bushy eyebrows. My colour prompt is blue. My traits include Perfectionist and Hot-Headed. Will you make me in Create-A-Sim?
So, what’s new in v2?
I’ve rewritten the code for the generator from scratch. It has some shiny new features that I think you’re going to love.
Fine-tune your randomization. Now, you can choose to randomize each variable independently, as well as all at once.
Expanded colour prompts. Thanks to @teanmoon, I’ve included her Berry Name list as an optional expansion of the colour prompt generation. This means that instead of just the basic ‘blue’ or ‘grey’ for example, you could end up with some neat Berry sim style prompts, such as ‘Tiger’ or ‘Moonstone’. Just enable ‘Berry prompt’ in the color menu.
Expanded trait support. There are now three different ways you can choose to generate the random traits. The first option rolls Basegame traits only. The second option adds all of the traits from various expansion packs. The third option expands the trait list to add all of the traits from ATICAS, the All Traits in CAS mod, which unlocks many reward traits for the CAS screen.
Available directly on my blog. No need to go to another site to grab the generator, it’s now available as a page on my blog where I can continue to update it at my leisure.
That’s about it, enjoy!

Custom Content Thumbnail Overlay
Okay, so in Sims4Studio Jackpot version, you can now add thumbnail overlays, which is super duper awesome for those of us who like to have CC be visually distinct from default content. But not everyone has this applied to their thumbnails, so what do you do?
Well, I made an overlay for anyone to use!
It’s 148 x 104px transparent, with the letters ‘Cc’ to stand for Custom Content, and styled to look like The Sims 4 lettering.
And here’s how it looks in CAS:
(The pink cat is my ‘puremorphin’ icon :3)
Please use this freely, and let others know about it.
Here’s orangemitten’s tutorial on how to use this new feature (only follow steps 7 and 8 to make this overlay appear over the normal thumbnail): http://sims4studio.com/thread/1018/make-catalog-thumbnails-easy

The Sims 4: Custom Content Tracker
//
Hey everyone, it’s Zerbu here!
I come today with a brand new tool for users of custom content, The Sims 4 CC Tracker. It performs one simple function: it lists the .package files you used for a certain Sim.
Previously, if you wanted to share a Sim that used CC, you would need to manually keep track of the CC you used in order to link back to it.
I might update the program in the future to…

Is anyone else having trouble uploading to ModTheSims?
I'm getting a 'javascript couldn't be loaded' error, and I've disabled all my script blockers and stuff. 'Is it down for everyone' said http://static-files1.modthesims2.com/ isn't working. :/

If I had only ONE Sims 4 item I could request, it would be this...

Richard Richard's hair. Because there is NEVER any awesome receding hairstyles in the Sims games. Whoever could make a style like this would be worshipped by me for all eternity.

I was gonna put this up on Modthesims, but they don't have a Misc category yet. So, here are 205 icons extracted from the Sims 4. They were in ClientFullBuild6.package, with memsize 0x4080. Each icon is in .png format, transparent, and 128x128px. They are free to use in whatever way you want (I envision Tshirt logos and kids wall art as two possible ideas), but it'd be nice if you could link back to this post if you do use it.

Urgh, digging through s4pe in hot weather is HELL. I want to try and make some unlockers for the career outfits in Sims 4, by editing CASP files, but (as far as I can see) there is no way to search for outfits by their 'name' (e.g. yfTop_SmockPainter). I briefly considered trying to make a list of every CAS item and its Instance number, but there's thousands of files! And with my work on Sims_4_Files Wikia, which is already a big butt of a project, no, nope, too much. Does anyone know a method to search for specific CAS items that I don't?

So I created a wiki to document my journey into the file-guts of The Sims 4 (just the CAS demo atm), and I hope my discoveries will help you modders out there. For example, I've written down the file names for all the eye textures, so you could go and do some default replacements RIGHT GOSH DARN NOW if you wanted to. And I am always looking for contributors, if you have any knowledge to add.
