A to-do list for when you come back to life: Study the liminal properties of the physical world. Remind yourself nothing stays the same. Not even for a second. Marvel at how the mighty hero melts to a small child as you caress his cheek. Larger than life, but in this moment, he fits into the palm of your hand. There’s more beauty in one of his eyelashes than the entirety of the night sky. Your chest will ache and break as it expands in poor effort to contain your love. For a second you’ll think, it’s not possible, surely your body cannot contain this much love. But it will. And it can. Because nothing stays the same. Not even for a second.

“When I first asked my grandma if I could write and publish about her, she gave me an instruction that has stuck with me over the years and I try to always keep it in mind when I write about family. She said, roughly translated from Korean: “you can write what you want, but let us live a little more beautifully the second time.” I took this as permission with a condition that I would fictionalize where necessary, to protect them and myself. The women I write about are both us and not us. Maintaining that fictionalized barrier is important to me.”
— Jihyun Yun, from “you can write what you want, but let us live a little more beautifully the second time": Jihyun Yun in conversation with Nicole Lachat, published Prairie Schooner, March 9, 2023

trick or treat!
Pain rolls in hot waves over Wangji’s chest, a sharp contrast against the chill of the cave floor on his back. There’s a muffled ringing in his ears and his lungs feel like they’ve turned to stone - sitting heavy in his chest as his the rest of his body gasps for air.
Wei Ying - his Wei Ying, his husband - walks past him, barely sparing him a glance as Wangji struggles to find a lifeline in the storm of pain.
“Stop making me repeat myself, Hanguang-jun,” Wei Ying says, his voice flat and uncaring. “I don’t want you anymore. Go home.”
And, pathetically enough, it’s the agonizing way Wei Ying calls him Hanguang-jun - not Lan Zhan -  that tips Wangji into unconsciousness.

Linger by the Door (I've always been yours) is my favourite... what mental illness do we share? lolol but really you are such a great writer it's so good
sweet sweet angel!!! thank you so much for the compliment and unfortunately the illness we share is too much love in heart disease. It's untreatable and the world is so cruel. It's only by sheer force of will (aka the unyielding whip of capitalism) that we wake up in the morning to face another day of heartbreak.
