Well half a year has gone by already, or nearly anyway, so here is the official Updated list for my favorite Binary Boyfriend Fanfictions from the Cobra Kai Community!

This is a direct updated copy from the first list; I’ve added some more fluff to the pre-existing summaries and have added more stories to the list, so this one will replace the last one entirely.

“Nocturnal” by Summerphlox (@demetriandelibinaryboyfriends )

My current favorite Binary Boyfriends fanfiction to date. It’s a short Monster AU featuring Vampire!Demetri and Werewolf!Eli to be exact. I really love monsters (werewolves especially,) horror as a genre, and all the great metaphors that come with them, so this is basically everything I adore in stories. Chapter 2 is the best thing I’ve ever read in terms of Binary Boyfriends material, and that’s saying a lot. It’s intense, it’s sad, it’s heartfelt, it’s tender, it’s hilarious. It’s everything great about Demetri and Eli as a couple. A quick fun fact, this is the story that directly inspired my own story ‘Greek Werewolf in West Valley!’ I’d say this story inspired most of the current Binary BF Monster stories, though that’s my own assumption. It’s a quick read, three chapters, and I highly suggest for everyone to give it a shot!

“Awakening” by Summerphlox (@demetriandelibinaryboyfriends )

Oh, look! Another monster AU! Same author as “Nocturnal” and this time Demetri is a werewolf! It’s a S6 story, fully inspired by Demetri’s angst bitch era. This will probably be my favorite once it finishes, but I can’t say for certain yet! We’ve just gotten to the real meat of the story yet, but the climax has yet to happen. I’m sure it will be amazing when it comes out though! The quick summery is that Demetri is convinced Eli hates him after admitting he didn’t apply to MIT and straight up becomes a creature about it. Meanwhile Eli is literally making the world’s biggest Doe-Eyes at him, trying his best to apologize for it. There’s A LOT of other stuff that happens but I would want to spoil it! Definitely a big read for anyone who loves Monster stories or AUs in general!

“The Rage of the Pigeon” by Summerphlox (@demetriandelibinaryboyfriends )

Demetri and Eli go on a date to the MUSEUM! The entire story is pure nerd fluff, which is always a huge win. It’s a oneshot, very slice-of-life, and based off of a picture made by @baldwinboy5ive which was for the 2024 TKK/CK Reverse Bang Writing Collection. I love reading plotless stories where the characters just basically interact like this, it’s so fun to read and sometimes it’s just nice to watch two characters just talk. Who needs plot when you have FEELINGS? There’s even a tiny bit of Dark!Demetri! Just a little pinch of it, as a treat. My favorite version of Demetri is him being unhinged so it’s always fun to see him around, lol. A great quick read for fluff lovers and dinosaur enthusiasts!

“Boys of Stupidly Optimistic Grandeur” by hunkydorkling (@sinful-karateka )

Part 1 of the ‘Line of Best Fit’ Series. This is where the angst train started. I love this story so much, it makes me crazy. I know we all love the stories full of misunderstanding and mixed signals but GOD DAMN. This story is a lesson in why you shouldn’t get drunk around the person you’ve been yearning for the past seven years. Since this is a part 1 of 3 there no real resolve to any feelings so you HAVE TO read the next two parts, it’s legally required. That being said it’s a GREAT story with all the angst and tender feelings that the community loves! We even get an intimate abstract scene at the end that really makes you go, “wow they’re terrible at feelings!” A must read for the community!

“Our Flight With Chance” by hunkydorkling (@sinful-karateka )

Part 3 of the ‘Line of Best Fit’ series. An Eli-centric college AU slowburn. This is the true successor to ‘Boys of Optimistically Stupid Grandeur.’ Basically Eli comes home from college after being gone for a VERY long time and tried to reconnects with everyone, including Demetri. That is much easier said than done since Eli had a shit ton of baggage, a terrible dad, and way too much guilt to work through. This fic has everything you need basically; copious amounts of angst, shitty-ass parents, the most unbelievable misunderstandings conceived by mankind, complete avoidance of talking about feelings at every given opportunity, and, best of all, crying while masterbating scenes. It really is the modern-quintessential binary BF angst fic. Big read for angst enthusiasts and enjoyers of Eli and Demetri being petty and pathetic to each other.

“Persistence of Vision” by bat_country (@baldwinboy5ive )

Contender for the best S6 oneshot across the board. Big claim right there but it’s legitimately extremely good. It has the incredible flair of the ‘new’ cool trend of Demetri being pissed at Eli and Eli making big sad doe eyes at him for about ten minutes before they ultimately make up because they’re so in love. This does have the spin of getting to see Demetri’s 100% unhinged thoughts with zero filter whatsoever. It’s angsty but also funny because Demetri has zero chill about everything. Seriously, people who don’t like S6 Demetri are wack, he’s so much fun. This is a very fun, short read and satisfies the lovers quarrel trope that we all love to see!

“Wrong Floor” by bat_country (@baldwinboy5ive )

This is technically a HUGE choose your own adventure style story with a Second Person POV (usage of ‘you’/reader insert style) with a ton of different stories and characters to romance. BUT YOU CAN’T ROMANCE DEMETRI AND ELI BECAUSE THEY’RE IN LOVE. Because of this, it’s on the list, lol. I absolutely loved doing this; it’s like a huge game and I kept trying to get all the ending for Demetri’s and Eli’s plotlines. No spoilers, but this is a Halloween story so the Monster boys sorta return! If you’re curious, play it and find out! The most unique fic by far and one everyone should give a go out, Binary Boyfriends notwithstanding.

“The Words Will Fall Out Like Teeth” by @pimpedoutgreenears

One of the quintessential S6 Binary BF fics. This is a three chapter story but is still relatively short. Doesn’t mean there isn’t a whole lot of feeling and angst packed into it though! This is a Demetri-centric story of his mentality during Part 1 or S6. The first chapter is absolutely incredible, one of my FAVORITE Demetri and Yasmine interactions ever. I love it whenever Yasmine has to basically slap sense into Demetri when he’s crashing out over Eli and is too blind to see the truth (the truth is him being gay and in love with Eli.) and the story keeps picking up speed after that too. I won’t spoil anything else, but it’s chapter 2 where Eli and Demetri really get to talk shit out, which was VERY cathartic. A must read for the Binary Boyfriends fanfiction experience.

“And All You Want Is Sleep” by @pimpedoutgreenears

This is a sad little oneshot about S3 Hawk being a pathetic simp for Demetri and being in denial about it. One of my favorite headcanons is the idea that Demetri and Eli snuggled in bed together for YEARS before Miguel came along. To the point where it’s hard for them to sleep without each other because the codependency between them in unreal. This is sorta that idea given life because Hawk cannot sleep without his cute boyfriend there to ease his anxiety anymore. He has a whole internal crash out about it and end up pretty much sniffing one of Demetri’s shirts that he stole to satisfy his nerd boy craving. You know, like a normal person. This story just tickles me pink! It’s a fast read so big suggest if you like S3 era stories and light angst.

“The Cobra Effect” by slrandomperson

The opening to this one makes me feral; ‘Hawk loved it when Demetri calls him Eli.’ Oh??? Does he now??? You know a story is gonna be great when it starts off with the biggest and most popular community headcanon of them all. That of course being that Demetri is the only one allowed to call him Eli. This story is all around fantastic S3 story; Eli decides to fake out the arm break, ditches Cobra Kai, and spends the rest of the story making up with Demetri. Has enough self loathing to make it angsty and copious amounts of fluff for the payoff. It also has Demetri loving on Eli’s scar a bit and shows Hawk with his hair down, which are two of my other favorite things to read in these stories. I highly recommend this one, it’s a classic at this point.

“You Can’t Even See How Much You’re Mine” by citriciel

This is an oldie but a goodie. An S3 era story, which was a great time for fics. This one in particular is near the top of what was written at the time. Pretty simple story; Eli gets beat up and run to Demetri’s house for refuge. Demetri angrily cleans him up and they talk out all the shit that happened between them. Ends how you think it would end, lol. It’s very sweet and fluffy. But, the best part is SCAR KISSES. THIS is the story that got me hooked on the troupe of Demetri kissing and complimenting Eli’s lip scar. Seriously, I think I put this cliche in every single one of my stories if I can. It’s the perfect interaction between them! And this story does it best, hands down. Everyone should study that scene and learn from it. We absolutely need more tender scar smooches from these two.

“Friends Kiss, Right?” by AKW_aka_Awkward

This one is so funny. Basically the premise is that Demetri has zero idea what’s appropriate with actual friends because he’s been with Eli for so long and doesn’t realize he’s in love with him. Now I don’t think Demetri is THAT dense to not understand you shouldn’t kiss your platonic friends BUT I do believe he and Eli shared kisses before Miguel showed up and gaslit themselves into still thinking they’re straight, lol. Seriously, comfort kisses between Demetri and Eli were probably VERY common for a long time and they got very normalized to it before some pointed out that it’s not normal to do outside of dating. They’re very stupid but that’s why we love them. Very silly and cute fic! Highly recommend you give it a read!

“I Don’t Care What You Call Me (As Long As You Call Me)” by Anonymous

I’m pretty sure this wasn’t always anonymous, like I remember this had a name attached to it once, but oh well. Whoever you are, you made a great S4 fic! So, have you ever wanted to watch Demetri call Eli various pet names as a form of both cute pettiness and psychological warfare? Well, NOW YOU CAN! This is a comedy fic with gallons of fluff in it. No angst to be found for once, lol. After Hawk switches to Eagle Fang/Miyagi-Do, he tells Demetri to just call him whatever he wants. Now Eli meant in term of the names ‘Eli’ or ‘Hawk’ but Demetri takes the concept and runs with it, calling him every cute nickname under the planet. It’s a simple and HIGHLY effective plot, especially for these two dorks. Watching Eli gent flushed every two minutes is so cute and Demetri is grinning evilly about it the entire time. Ending of the story is super freaking sweet too, one of the sappiest ending I’ve read which I absolutely ADORE! I highly recommend this one to fluff enthusiasts!

“Breaking the Hawk” by OptimisticallyCynical

Now requires a AO3 account to read. Here it is, everyone. The great white whale of the Binary Boyfriends community. I don’t think a Binary Boyfriends fic list is actually complete without this one on it. I mean that. This is THE angst fic, the ULTIMATE hurt/comfort story, the BIG slowburn, the MASSIVE getting together fic. The pure quintessential Hawkmetric fic to end all other Hawkmetric fics. And it isn’t even finished, lol. Yeah, this one won’t ever be finished unfortunately, but that’s actually okay. There’s 40+ chapters of amazing content here and the chapters are decently long too. We got so much story that we can actually be perfectly satisfied without having to see it conclude. It’s perfect how it is and is the best example of S3 angst in its prime. Read it. It’s basically required reading to be in the fandom at this point and there’s literally no excuse not to.

“Survey Says” by OptimisticallyCynical

Now requires and AO3 account to read. From the author of “Breaking the Hawk” a cute, little oneshot of Eli being an idiot and Demetri lovingly going along with his bullshit. The gist of it is this; Yasmine sends them a meme of “If the waiter at a restaurant gives you the check, they think you’re the top.” Eli, being how he is, want to try it because he’s POSITIVE the waiter would have him the check. I believe this was also S3 era so Eli has his macho Hawk vibes going on still. Doesn’t mean he still isn’t a bottom though, lol. It’s a very silly and in character premise that leads to a very cute date fic, which I don’t see all that often to be honest. The ending is also hilarious so I definitely recommend for everyone to give it a read.

“Let’s Do the Time Warp Again!” by unsaid_eddie

A Time-Loop AU! Unsaid_eddie makes excellent supernatural AUs and, in my opinion, this is the best one if not the best one out there. It’s Eli-centric and really focuses in on his frame of mind when it comes to Demetri and his life. It’s S4 era, specifically about the junior prom, so we get some real deep emotional Eli thoughts, considering he just got his head shaved. It’s Groundhog day rules too, so every day keeps cycling until he hits the ‘perfect’ day so to speak. It’s a really fun story in more ways than one. Because on top of nerd romance, we just get a great character study of Eli and his relationship with a bunch of people. Speaking of which, huge bonus points for Miguel being the bestest friend to Eli ever in this story. Seriously, that boy is a real one. Also I’m pretty sure this story won and award in TKK-CK Fanfiction Awards contest, so this is a true blue ribbon fic! Amazing story, definitely read it!

“How to Inhabit a Body” by unsaid_eddie

Unsaid_eddie is back again with magic AUs. This time with two Elis; specifically Hawk and Eli becoming two separate entities. To fix it, they ask Demetri for help. Of course they do. It’s an extremely interesting read to see pre-Hawk Eli and S3 Hawk interact with each other because they’re so insanely different. It’s also funny to see them interact with Demetri; Demetri very openly is sweet on pre-Hawk Eli and, in turn, Eli is terrible at hiding his crush on Demetri. Also, bonus point for actually seeing pre-Hawk Eli. I absolutely adore his character before the script flip. Not that I don’t live all of his character arc, but seeing it in fanfic is rare. So props to this story!

“I Paint the Ceiling Black (So I Don’t Notice When My Eyes Are Open)” by unsaid_eddie

Remember how it’s implied that Demetri and Yasmine have sex at the end of Part 3 when they make up? Well what if they actually broke up instead because Demetri is so obviously gay and Yasmine finally sees it? Like that idea? ME TOO! This is a great fix-it oneshot! It of course fixes our broke ass canon ending and gives us the good timeline ending, but it also has Yasmine being her amazing self and smacking sense into Demetri. Again, Yas utilized as Demetri’s cheerleader and being the only one to actually break through to him is a troupe I absolutely adore! She’s a real one alright. Of course there’s cute binary BF stuff at the end, but the real meat is Demetri and Yasmine’s conversation. It’s very thoughtful and well written. Big suggestion for a great character interaction story and a proper fix-it fic!

“Second Chances” by Asphodelia (@asphodel-storm )

Magic AU time! You also need an AO3 account to read this one too. So the gist of this one is that Demetri, through magical means, gets Pre-Hawk Eli in S3 Hawk’s body which means S3 Hawk is sent back to Pre-Hawk Eli’s body in the past. Past as in before Miguel shows up. So we get to see some crazy interactions! I probably explained it poorly but it’s quite clear what’s happening and how it happened in the actual story. The guidelines to the magic system aren’t important, nor do they have any bearing on the plot after the spell is activated, it’s just a vehicle for a very interesting character study. We also get to see two timelines of Demetri and Eli fall in love! So Binary BFs squared! If you like more off beat stories or Pre-Hawk Eli shenanigans, this is for you!

“Drifting” by Asphodelia (@asphodel-storm )

This one you have to be an AO3 member to read! This one isn’t really talked about all that much, but it’s incredible nonetheless. It was written a while ago, pre S4 I think, so an AU like setting. Eli basically cyberstalks Demetri and Yasmine on Instagram after they go to Greece together for college. Eli stays home in the Valley and just seethes that he can’t have Demetri and gets all sad about it. Has two plot twists too, of which I absolutely loved! It’s kinda angsty, just a little bit, but the ending is REALLY GOOD and very sweet. It’s a oneshot too so it’s a quick read for anyone who’s curious!

“I Guess Now It’s Time (That You Came Back For Good)” by Ithinkwehaveanemergancy

This is a 7 part series of one shots that all follow one narrative. It’s a pure Getting Together non-angst series and is probably the best one in the fandom. It’s a tiny little bit spicy in some areas, but it’s perfectly in line with their characters and it’s kept pretty light. It’s super funny and casual and is more slice of life in nature rather than following any sort of plot. It also is in line with my jacked Demetri theory. We all know that man has a six pack under those shitty pun shirts and Eli straight up can’t handle that, lol. In fact that’s the whole plot of the first fic in the series. It’s a little longer if you read it as a whole, but I definitely suggest a read through for the quintessential Binary Boyfriends fic experience.

“I Can Fight This With My Hands But My Head Won’t Let Me (You’re Still Here)” by Ithinkwehaveanemergancy

Coma AU oneshot! This one is amazing, full of angst and denial of feelings and misunderstandings! Everything an angst enjoyer yearns for. Eli gets hurt during a motorcycle accident and ends up in a coma. Demetri, in a fit of guilt, ends up reading Eli’s diary when he finds it in his bedroom. Naturally, he discovers what Eli really thinks about him and discovers his own feelings in return. Both boys go through a lot in this story despite it being rather short. Eli in particular is super interesting in this fic based on how he handles the situation, or his complete refusal to do so. We love a bitch whose favorite state is denial, lol. The ending is very soft and sweet, which are my favorite types of endings. Definitely give this one a read if you have the time!

“Everyone Knows That You Love Me, Baby” by Ithinkwehaveanemergancy

SAM AND DEMETRI PLATONIC SOULMATES SUPERIORITY! Don’t get me wrong, this fic is absolutely adorable with all of Demetri’s mis-steps to tell Eli he’s in love with him. However, the friendship is between Sam and Demetri is why this fic is so great, at least I think so. Sam is being his biggest cheerleader and wingman in this story, which is actually a little unusual. Most people, myself included have Sam being quite against Demetri dating Eli for obvious reasons. But not here! She’s being a supportive Queen in this one! It’s insanly cute and very, very wholesome. Demetri is a bumbling idiot around Eli and Eli is so oblivious it’s ridiculous. Basically how real flirting works, lol. Anthony also comes in clutch at the end and it’s absolutely hilarious. Definitely a read for all platonic sametri lovers and for those who like comedy forward one shots!

“I’m Wanting it Back” by @emloafs

Every fandom needs one really good amnesia fic. This is the binary boyfriends’ one. Eli gets amnesia after a bad accident while training and queue 2 years of life gone. He’s in pre-Hawk mentality and has to learn, well, everything again. It’s some good angst with Demetri and Eli over the woes of typical amnesia troubles, but also some great stuff with Miguel and the other kids too! Eli has basically forgotten his whole friendship with Miguel, who is best friend of course, so we have multiple plot lines going on! I clearly remember waiting with bated breath for each chapter when it was first coming out, so you know it’s good. Definitely suggest reading this one!

“I Knew It, I Know You” by @emloafs

Insanely good Future/College AU. So Eli and Demetri never made up in S3, they just drifted and Demetri cut him out of his life completely. No S4 through S6 events took place here, karate just stopped at S3. What a world that would have been, lol. Anyway, this story is them meeting again in college and, of course, romance and angst ensues! The boys are out in Boston too; Demetri went to MIT and Eli went to a nearby college for reasons. It has everything one could want from a College-Age Binary Boyfriends fic; soft Eli, extreme yearning, drunk makeouts, little bit of spicy stuff, insane misunderstandings, everything. Everything! Definitely give it a read!

“Andisol” by samemoon (@carmendiazbian )

A S4 rewrite basically from the perspective of the Binary Bags of course. It has slight canon divergence but stays true to S4’s story overall, which is nice. Whereas the show kinda skips over Eli and Demetri’s forgiveness plotline, this fic has all the angst and guilt we all originally wanted for S4! Featuring Eli feeling world shattering amounts of regret for his actions, Demetri powering through his trauma because he loves Eli, and Sam and company being 100% against Eli even being there to begin with. It is almost a fix-it fic in that regard because it just fixes the lackluster plot we got for the boys in S4. On top of all of that we get some flashbacks too! I LOVE seeing pre-Hawk Eli in stories so seeing him here made my day! Extremely good fic with everything one could possibly want in an S4 fic! Definitely give it a read if you can.

Our Flight With Chance | Chapter 21

since the show ended, i've been hard at work trying to map out the rest of this fic. for the first 20 or so chapters, i've tried setting up the bases of both Eli and Demetri's origin stories five years since the end of the S6's canon events. knowing now how the show ends, it has given me a great ton of relief to continue the rest of the vision. this chapter kicks off everything into high gear.

the delight and willpower i get in writing this novel, in spite of the lack of activity on my end, come from the small writing group whose bonds have been formed just by loving these two nerds a little extra than any of our irl peers combined. i look back on chapter 2 and silently thanked my past self that they continued this ol' story here; it has been such a terror to keep the habit up, really. without my binary boyfriends truther circle's help, i clearly wouldn't even bother anymore. but 21 chapters in and i still get vicious (loving) comments like, how could you do me like this or, i hope you're happy making me cry.

i'm happy The Line of Best Fit made an impact at all. most days i don't think it runs the mileage it's meant to have on a personal level, but if you're reading this and feel victimized by these two, i'm sorry and thank you for sticking around. it only matters to me that it sticks and it echoes. my gratitude will always be overflowing.

i'll use these spaces as an extended space for notes and potential discussion notes for each chapter (if you so care to engage). i feel like what's left of my energy can only be reserved for writing and doodling and god knows what else. i don't dabble much into the tags these days nor do i draw as often as i should, but making lil things for the Flight!boys is the least i could do to keep the tags alive, i guess. so there.

man. one thing i will eventually cringe at as I write the next chapters for Our Flight With Chance is the inevitable presence of writing Demetri's ✨(forced) individual dream ✨ of permeating the Silicon Valley bubble with his business idea/s and hope for game-changing tech.

I do think that if the writers cared about Demetri at all they could have used the caltech thing as an interesting conclusion to him as a character because he has always been very stubborn and resistant to change so it would have shown him growing from that by choosing the future that wasn’t necessarily the one he had meticulously planned out, however as it stands the whole plotline in p3 just makes him seem really quite gay

haha would you look at what i found lying in the drafts! anyway i'm going to counter myself after having seen the series finale this year. oh corny of the past, you would've probably still gotten your heart eaten out regardless.

what's important, as @demetriandelibinaryboyfriends put it during one conversation, is that their whole entire color scheme towards the last five was, quite literally:

so yeah — whatever! it was the closure ending, but that's not gonna stop us from creating beyond canon. cobra klownery never dies 🤡

how likely do you think it is that we’ll *actually* get canon hawkmetri at some point in the show?

As a firm believer of the ship amongst the other crazy-ass ships coexisting in the series AND fandom, I... wouldn't bet my cards on it, for obvious reasons that the writers very poorly maintain mlm and wlw ships, i.e. the presence of Piper for S2, and somehow not have Moon talk about her at all in the succeeding season. (If she was really serious about dating her, she wouldn't have given that guy that coy stare at the soccer field. But again, since not everything can be fit in a half-hour episode, I would understand why it's there for effect.) There's effort, but it's not enough to make Hawkmetri an outstanding candidate.

From this alone, I don't quite know how this is a possibility other than what fans would want, to be honest! But I have a few reasons why I would reserve this wish last:

1. Hawk needs to find his center between his personas. Demetri could help with that, or the rest of the MD-EF kids, and maaaaaybe talking about his confusion with everything going on in his life would open doors to some self-actualization. And if we're given that moving forward, it's sound hope for me.

2. Same goes for Demetri! There's barely enough to know about the boy—Christ, we don't even know the boy's last name. Aside from that, it's just his motivations to stop Cobra Kai. I would need to know the rest of his deeper motivations.

3. The boys have been straight-coded so far, HOWEVER, if there's any progression with the above two, and a possible crack to explore sexuality within, like, ten minutes of an episode... I'll be into it. I'll look into it. I'd be willing to spend x number of hours just daydreaming and analyzing about it with my peabrain.

Moving on, my expectations for Hawkmetri will remain low so that I would be colored fecking surprised if they do end up together, but even then I wouldn't be so convinced unless the writers put in work to cultivate their dynamic beyond being Binary Brothers. I am very much excited with them figuring things out together come S4 (even if it involves babes, but for the love of all that's good I do not want Hawk/Moon or Demetri/Yasmine to happen again because that warrants even poorer writing for me). Am I going to cross my fingers for it? Possibly! But do I see the light? Not even as I squint under a ceiling light.

After season 6 part 1, I wrote this Demetri/Hawk fic called Persistence of Vision, but today I posted another fic taking place after season 6 part 2, which kind of goes with the first one.

So now these two fics are part of a series (don't have to read both; can be read independently) called "Hawk/Demetri Stories Where Demetri's Inspired by Sciencey Photographs to Think About His Relationship With Eli and Gets All Introspective and Stuff and It's Around the Sekai Taikai and Stuff Like That yes that's the title of this series"
