The soft, diaphanous aesthetic of Marie-poupée (1976), dir. by Joël Séria, a problematic, subversive French psychosexual drama with horror undertones, tackling the lurid, uncomfortable subject of fetishism and sexual repression. A seemingly ordinary mundane situation takes a dark, subtly disturbing turn as the naive, delusional young woman with a doll-like appearance falls pray to dark impulses associated with male fantasies. The archetype of the virginal ingénue is taken to sinister extremes in this gripping depiction of an emotionally stunted lifelike doll with a distorted view of sexuality, who is only just starting to feel physical cravings. The two male figures in Marie’s life are the cold, passionless doll collector who deprives her of intimacy and a predatory man who rapes her. The doll shop owner’s odd obsession with dolls and his treatment of the girl as a fragile porcelain doll is a condemnation of objectification and its ‘othering’ process. Whilst the film’s subject seems sinister, the way it’s depicted on screen is quite subtle, and the pleasant aesthetic contributes to this disguise, as it all looks like a beautiful silky pastel dream.

What does your bedroom look like? I'm not trying to be creepy but in your pictures it looks so angelic.

ok here are some pictures of my room now that ive finally found the time to clean it up a lil bit!!! im not a very messy person but its easy for things to get cluttered when u got a lotta stuff. the first few pics are of some of my shelves, i do have more with even MORE dolls on them but they arent as cutely organized as these ones are lol… theres also a pic of my bed with my stuffed animals and a couple of records i usually put on when i want 2 chill and just be alone in my own space, and a couple of my bunny backpacks hanging up on hooks near there. the lil tv is what i use to play my ps1 and ive got my fav game popped in right now, resident evil 2!!! the pic after that is the corner near my bigger tv that i use for everything else and the rest are just of other things i have around. hope these are what u wanted to see!!! xoxo
