When I was little, my dad would tell stories of his adventures with his best friend, the dragon. He would weave stories that I can now recognise as myths and fairy tales from all over the world. But the magic didn't end with my childhood - even later, when I had become an adult, when I was tired or particularly exasperated with life, he would sometimes quip: 'Shall I ask my best friend, the dragon, for some advice? He should know' Fathers' Day is always a difficult time of the year for me. But I try to imagine that he's off on an adventure with his trusty dragon in a land far far away, and that one day, he'll tell me all about it. Happy fathers' day, Abah. Missing you so much.

Creating a life that reflects your values and satisfies your soul is a rare achievement. In a culture that relentlessly promotes avarice and excess as the good life, a person happy doing his own work is usually considered an eccentric, if not a subversive. Ambition is only understood if it’s to rise to the top of some imaginary ladder of success. Someone who takes an undemanding job because it affords him the time to pursue other interests and activities is considered a flake. A person who abandons a career in order to stay home and raise children is considered not to be living up to his potential — as if a job title and salary are the sole measure of human worth. You’ll be told in a hundred ways, some subtle and some not, to keep climbing, and never be satisfied with where you are, who you are, and what you’re doing. There are a million ways to sell yourself out, and I guarantee you’ll hear about them.To invent your own life’s meaning is not easy, but it’s still allowed, and I think you’ll be happier for the trouble.

Lissie | The Pursuit of Happiness (Kid Cudi Cover)
Tell me what you know about dreamin’ dreamin’ You don't really know about nothin’ nothin’ Tell me what you know about them night terrors every night 5 AM, cold sweats wakin’ up to the sky Tell me what you know about dreams, dreams Tell me what you know about night terrors, nothin’ You don't really care about the trials of tomorrow Rather lay awake in a bed full of sorrow
