all I want is a golden retriever and a cosy house with a big garden in the middle of nowhere and to never deal with civilisation again

every time i feel like i haven’t done enough things to be proud of myself during the day there’s the voice of louise glück that emerges softly in my ears and says if you missed a day there’s always the next and if you missed a year it didn’t matter the hills weren’t going anywhere the thyme and rosemary kept coming back.. and i feel like life is beautiful and kind to me again

I want to be a white egret in a big landscape garden tended to by an old woman who pours all her remaining love into the flowerbeds and never see civilisation ever again

“Her [Jane Austen’s] genius began with the recognition that such lives as hers were very eventful indeed — that every life is eventful, if only you know how to look at it. She did not think that her existence was quiet or trivial or boring; she thought it was delightful and enthralling, and she wanted us to see that our own are, too. She understood that what fills our days should fill our hearts, and what fills our hearts should fill our novels.”
— A Jane Austen Education: How Six Novels Taught Me About Love, Friendship, and the Things That Really Matter by William Deresiewicz. (via halfagony-halfhope)

things in 19th century novels that bring me an immense amount of joy
a passive aggressive pianoforte moment
any country dance scene
flower symbolism
the love interest telling the heroine he loves her mid panic attack
a women rejecting a marriage proposal from a man she hates
hands
when lore gets dropped via letter
and, most importantly, the First Name Drop™

june mood: tragic smiles, strawberry milkshake, wearing nice lingerie under floral dresses, the sound of someone playing reverie on piano from distant, early morning sunshine, watching atonement in your silk nightgown, bike rides, dreaming of foreign cities, the smell of orange blossoms, poetry of john keats, lucky charms, playing tennis with your best friend
