He doesn’t necessarily suspect his dearest wife to be… the most sensible woman. Daemon had heard stories of her, the refusal to wed and the sheer sharpness of which the woman had driven previous suitors away. He was no different, with the death of his former wife and living as a bachelor under his brother’s nose. Viserys had seemingly grown… irritated, much as he expected with the sheer mention of his daughter and now heir teetering so close to thoughts of ruin by his very hands. It had grown irksome, for both younger and elder, and Viserys—in his disgruntled rage, had betrothed the couple under the guise of House Lannisters’ union to House Targaryen, but Daemon had seen it clearly for what it was. Betrothal and marriage to a fierce woman that would meet his fire and blade with her own claws and teeth.

Upon meeting her, he’d been none surprised that she—like glittering gold against the alabaster sea—was the dawn itself residing in a woman that, even to his palette, was beautiful and alluring in both body and wit. important note*: while I understand daemyra is an important part of daemon's story, I will not write them under the assumption that daemon's relationship with rhaenyra is or was, in any way, shape, or form, healthy. daemon is well known to be a gr**mer ( toward rhaenyra ), and I will not erase that problematic fact. however, as daemon sees nothing wrong with these actions, I write him with the intention to honor that characteristic. ( with the respect and understanding that this is a triggering topic for some. ) that being said, I do write daemon as being deeply 'in love' with rhaenyra, tricking himself and others into the genuine nature that disguises the fact that he seeks to root himself with the heir of the realm and his brother's power. ( while this might appear genuine, and he does care for rhaenyra in some form, his desire is to be king of the realm and this causes a large strain of being without the power his 'lesser' wife has. ) additionally, I will write ships with him, both with rhaenyras who wish it and with other canon and non canon characters, but daemon will always long for the power being rhaenyra's husband/partner grants.
