“Well, he’s my dad. I would hope he’d let me come — but what the hell is ‘trick or treating’ and ‘halloween’?”

"What?!" The fur on Silver's ears raises in surprise. "You mean you really don't know? Halloween is a holiday. People dress up in costumes--like vampires, werewolves, skeletons--and walk around to other people's houses. They knock on the door, say "trick or treat!" and they collect candy." His ears settle, but he still looks aghast. "Julia and I take our kids trick or treating every year!"
