Tom stared as trent watching his lips moved as he talked taking in the information that he was saying and trying not to make facial expressions as he did so. He never truly liked Kirby he just dealt with him as long as Trent said he loved him or something along those lines, i mean Kirby dealt with him for that long so it had to mean something about the two
He knew the fights were more frequent, he noticed after him and Pete broke up something seemed off, Kirby probably thought about the amount of time his boyfriend had made out with his best friend and how he doesn’t have to deal with it. Tom nodded still listening to his best friend speak. Tom wasn’t smart but if he put thought into something he wasn’t always dumb.
Tom leaned into Trent slightly “You know why Pete broke up with me right? Because he was done dealing with my shit and our brojobs and makeout sessions? Maybe Kirbys getting done with it too dude.” Tom didn’t want to straight up say he wanted to date Trent and has since 8th grade but he never realized it until now
“Maybe you should just break up with him bro, The relationships like run its course or some shit like that you’ve been dating for forever and shit but maybe its time for the last breakup?” trent always told tom when he broke up with kirby probably crying and drunk or high but tom was always drunk or high so he couldn’t talk

Tom started off on his skateboard to the main hang out place of him and Trent. He only went there when he was with Trent any other time it was the shitty diner that one rich person probably owned and was too lazy to make it into a chain, they had good pancakes which is was Tom normally got.
Tom looked down at the ground turning a sharp corner on his way to the Dennys almost stumbling off but regaining his balance quickly. he looked up at was almost there the glowing sign leading him to the run down building.
Seeing the beat up pick up truck made the boy perk up going faster to it and stopping as he got there throwing his skateboard into the back even though he knew no one would dare steal the almost broken piece of wood, he didn’t care the thought of protecting it was still his main priority
Walking over to the normal stop he waved at Trent, it wasn’t odd to be called over to the Dennys at night but something seemed weird. It was probably about Kirby, yes they’ve been dating since high school but pete bringing up how shitty he treated him and trent was treated so much better made Tom think about the other boys relationship. Tom jumped on the slab next to Trent and smiled “Whats up?!” He said happily
Trent clasped his hand on the back of Tom’s shoulder, greeting him as he took his seat. Letting out a sigh, Trent then leaned back onto his palms. “Nothin’ just..” He let out another sigh, this time a little more aggravated. “It’s like every time I say anything it makes Kirby upset?”
Trent wasn’t the brightest, but even he knew that he talked about his problems with Kirby a lot. He tried not to bring it up when he was out with his boys’, or at parties. That wasn’t what those places were for. Those times were for having fun. But he knew when it was one-on-one with Tom, it was chill. Tom listened to him, they were usually on the same page too.
“Like Kirby is usually like ‘yeah whatever go ahead’ when I’m saying I’m going out or done hanging out with him right? But now he’s like ‘okay, fuck off then’. Not even in an endearing way.” Trent frowned.
“I don’t know what I did, and before I can finish asking him he’s not even paying attention? It doesn’t even feel like a fight fight.” Trent and Kirby were constantly one and off. When they first started dating in high school, they were both relatively openly bisexual, and people of the same sexual orientation stuck together. But every year they had been seeing each other the mini break-up’s had started becoming more and more frequent.

Trent pulled up to the parking lot in his beaten up pick-up. It was given to him as a birthday present. Coming from a below-average family meant he wasn’t given the ‘best of the best’ but a car was a car! Who would turn down a car? Not Trent. Plus it felt nice to be a ride for most of the boys’ in their squad. Nothing like driving around town with a dozen drunk townies in the back of his car. The car itself was a dark maroon colour, it was several abrasions and paints chips. Not to mention it had looked like it had gotten into several fender-benders. But Trent loved it all the same, and Trent himself was a good driver.
In fact, Trent loved driving. Driving calmed Trent down a lot. And he knew Tom loved the idea of getting away someplace far. Obviously it wasn’t realistically in the cards for either of them, so Trent would often drive out of state just the two of them, go for a really long drive over the weekend. And than stop in some unknown small town and smoke. It was special. It was their thing. Which only made Trent love the trunk more.
Trent turned off the ignition, and pulled himself out of the car, closing the door he went over to their usual hang-out spot. The spot itself was actually an elevated slab of concrete toward the back corner of the parking lot. It was a favourite sleep spot for two homeless lovers but Trent and Tom fought them off to claim it as their own. The memory made Trent smile and he hosted himself up onto the slab, his feet dangling.
Things had been… rough with Kirby. After the break-up with Tom and Pete. Tom and himself had talked about it more than once or twice in front of Kirby- and since then… Kirby had been acting weird. Like, weirder than usual which made Trent worry. He sighed bouncing the heel of his sneaker against the concrete.
