MOMENT (Nick x Jacob)

“You ever wonder what it would be like to kiss a guy?” Nick asked absently as he stared out over the water of the lake.

“What?! No! No way! I’m not gay, dumbass, why would I think about that?!” Jacob scoffed a little, sitting forward, trying to meet Nick’s gaze that remained thoughtfully out on the water.

Nick shrugged nonchalantly, “dunno. Dylan mentioned it. Didn’t know if you ever wondered if it would be weird, you know?” He hummed.

Jacob sighed, “I dunno, man. Can’t be that weird, right? Like… some guys are into it or whatever.. so..” Nick could tell Jacob was just saying words, filling the space that threatened to fall uncomfortably in the conversation.

Nick didn’t speak for a moment, still watching the water, lost in his own passing thoughts and the distant sounds of the campers and other counselors chattering around the bonfire.

“Do you think it’d be different?” Jacob broke the silence.

“What would be different?”

“You know….”

“What?”

“Kissing a guy, dumbass!” Jacob punched Nick’s arm lightly with a huff.

Nick rolled his head back and hummed, making a show of thinking over the question before he simply shrugged. “Dunno. Wanna see?” He asked.

“What?” Jacob stared at him blankly.

Nick shrugged again, “can’t be that bad, right?”

Jacob leaned forward with a glare that looked more like a pout on his face, “You saying you wanna kiss me, Junior?” He teased though his confidence faded when Nick met his teasing, leaning forward with a smirk.

“‘Maybe.” He mused, making Jacob blush and stammer before he huffed, clearly taking this as some kind of challenge now, a challenge they were both locked into where neither wanted to be the one to chicken out.

“Uh- whatever- dumbass- not like it’s a big deal or anything” Jacob stammered, trying to sound angry and only succeeding in sounding more flustered. Nick smiled coyly, getting great satisfaction in for once making Jacob squirm at the prospect of a challenge. Jacob had teased him more than enough times for being the one to chicken out, Nick was almost able to forget what the challenge at hand was, and only really cared that he seemed to be winning at the moment.

Jacob continued to stammer dumbly when Nick decided to cut him off, closing the space between them, his lips meeting Jacob’s.

Jacob’s eyes widened for a moment, and Nick thought for an instant that he had won whatever stupid challenge this situation had turned into. That was until Jacob leaned into him a little more, and to Nick’s surprise, kissed him back.

Nick was able to lose himself in the moment as he let himself relax into kissing the other man. He let everything about camp, about the others, about the world fade away for only an instant, like Jacob was the only thing to exist with him. Just was quickly the instant passed, broken by a voice.

“Nick?” Abi called from nearby, her footsteps approaching fast. Jacob made a half squeak, half yelp of surprise, seemingly realizing what he and Nick were doing and quickly scrambling away, resulting in his losing his balance. He grabbed onto the collar of Nick’s shirt to try to catch himself though it did nothing to stop him from splashing down into the water, dragging nick down with him.

Nick surfaced, snickering to himself as he looked over to see Jacob sulking in the water, trying to hide the dark blush that had spread across his face. Nick then turned his attention to Abi as she trotted out onto the dock.

“I’ve been looking everywhere for you! We’re about to start campfire stories and we need you two!” She huffed.

Nick nodded, waving at her. “We‘ll be right there!” He promised her. He cast one last half glance at Jacob before going to pull himself out of the water, his mind still lingering on that little moment the two had shared.
