Current (realistic) protocule dynamic:

So Sam mentions that ever since he was rejected from the Magnus Institute he has had bad luck and been rejected from other things, had breakdowns that led to him losing jobs. But according to the info from the ARG there was another child who would have been at the Magnus Institute around the same time with the last name Dyer. And Alice's parents both died at the same time several years ago leaving Alice working a horrible dead end job to help support her brother's dreams. And now Sam has come back and started talking about the Institute again, and now Alice feels something watching her, and Sam is telling her to keep their relationship "professional" as he dates another coworker. I can't help feeling that there may be additional reasons that Alice wants Sam to drop the Magnus interest other than national secrets.
