i liked @krispdreemurr’s idea that kris’ knife was a gift from carol before the Eveyrthing

what kind of knife does kris have? probably not a super fancy knife i'd guess... is it just an "any knife will do" thing or do they have specific knife opinions? if theirs is special, was it always that way, or did it become special over time? do they take care of it, or let it get messy and dull? do they put it in a sheath or just let it loose in a pocket somewhere or something? what's their favorite steel? etc

in game it looks like a chef's knife, and I do think a fancy chef's knife is probably the Easiest to maintain. they definitely have just the one knife that they keep properly sharpened and taken care of and sheathed when not in use and so on, it's Their Specific Knife.

i do wonder about the theories going around (not mine originally - have seen in the tags but can't track it down) that it was actually a gift from Carol from before everything went down; her seeing her friends' child shared her interest in Blades and being like oh i have the best possible gift for a 10 year old.

it was nice, at the time - bonding with another trusted adult. finding someone who liked the things they liked. now it's the weapon they use to follow the path they've been set on, and when they clean it and sharpen it it feels more and more like a responsibility.

So when I played that one part near the beginning of deltarune chapter 4....

The whole sequence in Noelle's house? I had a very funny first experience in there.

See, within moments of walking into the house, my Gamer Senses starting going off. I turned to my sibling and said: There's going to be a stealth chase in here.

Santa statues throughout the house that make noise when interacted with. At least one obvious vent in every room. A main area with multiple staircases and looped paths. I said, there is going to be something crawling around in those vents that we're gonna have to try and avoid. I'm immediately on high alert. I'm looking for hiding places, I'm looking for exits.

So imagine my surprise, when Kris rips out the soul, and puts it in that room with the obvious open vent. And we both go Holy Shit We're The Monster. and Kris is avoiding US. We, THE SOUL, are the thing creeping around in the vents. And KRIS is the one HIDING UNDER THE BED. AND ATTACKING ME!!!!
