tagdrop & a long blubr of hunches i have for this series which i could VERY MUCH BE WRONG on , but oh well :

i have a HUNCH that ken's in on the prophecy , hence why he's kept mel alive & hidden all these years . his love for her is genuine , but with his animosity towards the virtues & him being around for a hundreds of years ( as well as him outright telling mel 'i'll make sure you'll never be one of us... ) he sees this immortality thing for what it truly is : a curse . "a fate way worse than death ."

this doesn't make ken righteous in ANY means of course- he's just as much as a liar , cheat , & murderer as the rest of the district lol , but it does make him more aware that maybe mel's calling isn't what it appears to be . the prophecy is sold as this catastrophic annihilation of the whole world... i don't think that's necessarily accurate . prophecies are intrinsically vague , & it's this fearmongering control that keeps the rotlings under the virtues thumb .

& about the virtues & why ken is rightfully pissed at them : i think their in on stalling the prophecy . they SAY "may our service be short ," but we see them get the benefits of being high society , have lesser angels at their service , & be free from their rotting corpses while the rotlings live in near destitute . & given there are a few virtue bots scattered within heaven's gates - i don't think the angel mother regards them as highly as they act . that , & because mel went up the staircase without ken , we don't really know his side on the angel thing yet .

so i don't think this narrative takes the whole " heaven is secwetly evil " route , this is just heaven in the days of reckoning . the angel mother's dealing with mel was very ruthless , yes , but mel did sneak in to steal her egg & kill it so like . i'd be mad , too . she's also angry with mel for not just disobeying , but denying the world renewal . mel has it all backwards , being convinced that mark of the black hand is the best thing ever when it's not . the angel mother knows this . ken knows this . the virtues know this , but they're afraid of losing control . immortal , but still terrified of death .

but ey, that's just me .

“ mmhm , mmhm... ” courage scribbles something down on his notebook . regardless of the other two's sincerity , he takes the answers into consideration- including boohoo's . in psychology , folks usually tell on themselves whether they intend to or not . or maybe that's just how the skit goes .

ghost 1 : most chaotic lively of the three .

ghost 2 : aloof & sophisticated . rightfully? sardonic .

ghost 3 : no response . sympathetic , but distant .

“ yoooouuu STUPID DOG ! ”

the pencil snaps . courage's cringes as the sound of the record scratches to a halt at that horrible voice . “ uh oh . ”

the session comes to a halt as the farmer barges in , angered at his taken chair . he gapes at the extra three guests in the attic .

“ what's- heh ? ” he scowls at the boos , his tiny eyes squinting through his thick spectacles . “ i TOLD ya to put those girly balloons away ! ”

courage only grimaces as the old man pulls a needle from his pocket , cackling meanly to pop the "balloons." otherwise , the pink pup does nothing to stop him . or protect him .

all three wince when the whistle comes; Boones halts her ongoing web-scour, Boohoo drifts away from the window, and Booigi? Smacks into the wall.

Suffice to say, the pup has their attention. They wait, patiently, and Boohoo is glad the other two are intrigued enough to ah...indulge him as he bolts down the stairs. Up he comes, armchair in toe.

"Now that's nervous energy," Booigi comments, as those limbs certainly are noodly.

Boones and Booigi seemed entirely too happy about this. Gleeful, even, to follow along. A skit is a skit, after all. They plonk down on the couch, and consider the inkblot with exaggerated interest, 'hmm' and 'huuuh' -ing at it. (Boones has left the Wikipedia page on 'average life expectancy of dogs' open.)

"I see...a blizzard!" Booigi declares.

"I see the plight of underpaid scientists." Boones drones.

Boohoo has not moved from her position left to the window, watching with concern. Bless his heart. But is he sympathetic, or simply looking to solve them, so they'll be on their way?

(Whichever way, the other two are not going to make it easy for him.)

"..they won't take this seriously," she tells the dog. She does not tell him what she sees.

he'd been sent to fetch the farmer's raincoat , only to find that the shed door had been opened . someone was inside . someone glowing ...

now , that could spell a heap of trouble . giant glow worms or maybe some radioactive monster from some secret bunker ! but when the skittish little dog snuck a peak ... all he saw was a person . someone looking to find shelter from the storm , no doubt .

what a relief .

& they were nice , too ! still laying there , allowing the glowing stranger to pet him , courage would hum in agreement . it should . they always did , eventually . maybe if it lessoned , he could bring them inside . muriel wouldn't mind .

still , courage can't help but be a little curious about the glow . he sniffs at the light , puzzled .

How did she get into this small little shed when it was thundering like a freight train? She didn't know. All she knew is that she was hiding so she wouldn't get soaked and now there's this dog resting his head on her knee. Where did they come from?? Maybe its because of the soft green glow she is emitting, or maybe the dog wanted comfort? whatever it may be, she doesn't mind it. She slowly moved a hand to pat the top of the dog's head.

"It should be over soon.."

sir , this easily one of the most terrifying moments of his life . other than that monster motel . & fred . & king rameses . & the windmill vandals . & the evil vet--

courage doesn't scream , but the color of his fur drains with the comical sound of water going down a sink , & the pooch is rendered as still as a statue- literally .

but the instinctual expectation of death's sting doesn't come , only the stroking of boney fingers atop his fuzzy head . the little dog's whole frame trembles in fear & relief .

his color returns to him . his tail begins to slowly & quietly thump against the floor . courage even leans his head toward the reaper's touch .

The skeleton looked down. Strange, maybe this small dog was confused, perhaps? Or unaware who's knee he was putting his head, atleast.

Noticing that it still had his head on their knee, Grim just quietly raised his hand and put it on its head to start gently petting it.

When you made a new friend cuz you’re both anxious messes.

When I saw that door opening scene in TADC, and it reminded me of that scene in Courage the Cowardly Dog where Courage was opening doors and each doors had weird stuff behind it that traumatized the poor boi.

I have seen so many fanarts of Pomni and Kobeni but none with Courage who was one of the OG anxious cinnamon rolls.
