Asking because my brother is one of the straightest people I've ever met despite how similar we are, but a lot of queer people I know seem to have at least one queer sibling.
#I'm cishet and queer (gnc+ace) and my bio-sibling is also cishet but probably less straight than I am#but my stepbrother and i think literally all of my friends are queer#me and my mom often joke that we might be the only straight people in the world. though she also says some very bi things sometimes

the human mind is prone to catastrophizing when left unoccupied. And that’s why it’s important to always have a little Blorbo to rotate in your head. It acts as a protective charm of sorts to redirect your imagination away from harmful spirals
thoughts without Blorbo: oh my god I was so cringe in seventh grade why did I do that
thoughts with Blorbo: I haven’t considered the interactions with bleebus; I must rectify this immediately
#my blorbo's spirals are so much more interesting than mine#no matter how bad of a day im having it still won't be as bad as what's happening in part 3 to Ruprecht Van Doren

Also something I think people forget a lot of the time is that while fic can be "as good" as an original work, it doesn't mean the fic will be good AS an original work. They're entirely separate genres.

love seeing revisionism in the wild “free the nipple never meant you can walk around topless every where that’s still sexual harassment it just meant for like breastfeeding and stuff”no it literally means you should be able to walk around topless anywhere because get this. breasts aren’t fucking sexual organs.
#important stuff#and yeah I live in a city that has an annual naked bike ride. it's literally so normal to see bodies and policing them will never be radical

the bisexuality was there. it didnt change anything. it didn't save anyone. there were just too many forces against it. but it still matters that the bisexuality was there

I think I've made this post before but writing a research paper really makes me realize how perfectly Paul Murray nailed Ruprecht's academia-coded speech patterns lol if that makes sense

and ONE MORE THING about the "literary fiction doesn't have gay people" argument is that it creates the implication that published fiction is for straight people while fanfiction is for queer people which is like. so insulting and infantilizing to queer people
#like I PROMISE you that published fiction is not actually all that straight/heteronormative and that fanfic is not all that queer/radical#you cannot make the distinction on those terms it's ridiculous

also like. the thing about published fiction is that it's not necessarily going to tell you right off the bat if it has queer characters in it. you can't just look at a summary of a book and dismiss it because it doesn't explicitly say there are gay people in it--bc a book summary is not the same thing as ao3 tags. sometimes the fact that a character is queer is not significant enough to the plot to be mentioned, sometimes it's too significant to the story so it has to be revealed and deconstructed in the plot--but to know that you have to actually READ BOOKS
#like I certainly did not expect there to be a queer character in skippy dies and it takes more than 500 pages for that to be revealed#and knowing right away that [character] is gay would take something away from the plot structure

just. it's so ridiculous that people whose hobbies allegedly involve reading will not read books. it's baffling to me.

this is not a drag on fanfiction but if you find yourself consistently saying “wow fic is better than most published stuff!! and it’s free!!” it might be a sign that your brain is ready for and craving more complicated literature than the books you are used to gravitating towards
#yeah the notes in this post are delusional#like sorry but if your take is “this doesn't exist in published literary fiction” or that “fiction is bad these days” you are just wrong.#you are just not looking. there is literally SO SO much good queer published literature out there#and the fact that you read only fanfiction is contributing to the fact that you don't know how versatile published fiction is!!

#literally this#like when people say that it's extremely obvious that they just don't. really read books#which is exactly why they think that published lit and fanfiction are indistinguishable. it's like a vicious circle#also AGAIN. BOOKS ARE SO ACCESSIBLE YOU CAN GET THOUSANDS FOR FREE ON YOUR PHONE/COMPUTER RIGHT. NOW.

everyone deserves, at least once in their life, to read a book that feels like it was written exactly, specifically for you
#😤#it will change/ruin your life#apart from the obvious (skippy dies and the bee sting) i must also mention a book I read earlier this year#it's called Me And The Fat Man by Julie Myerson#and I was in constant disbelief reading it because it was so PERFECTLY something I had been waiting my whole life for#i still can't quite believe it exists....it's so lovely
