Winter Magic
The Energy of Winter
Winter is ruled by the element of water, embodying qualities of stillness, intuition, and emotional depth. The cold, the darkness, and the long nights all speak to the importance of introspection. The energy of winter invites us to rest, to reflect, and to let go of what no longer serves us. Winter is the season when we feel the most connected to the Earth beneath us, as we slow down and honor the rhythm of nature. It’s a time when our magical work can be focused on self-care, healing, and preparing ourselves for the fresh energy that will emerge with the first stirrings of spring.
Magical Themes of Winter Rest and Rebirth: Winter holds the energy of endings and new beginnings. While it seems still, it’s actually a time when new seeds (both literal and symbolic) are being prepared to sprout in the coming months. Winter is when you reflect on what needs to be released and how to make space for renewal.
Healing and Inner Wisdom: The cold season is ideal for healing. The darkness of winter encourages you to explore the deeper parts of yourself. Use this time to work with your dreams, meditate, and listen to your inner voice. It’s a great time to heal old wounds or to embrace new personal growth.
Connection with the Divine: Winter is a season rich with the energy of gods and goddesses associated with winter, darkness, and the night sky. Deities such as the Norse goddess Skadi, the Greek goddess Hecate, or the Roman goddess Diana can be honored through rituals or offerings.
Protection and Comfort: Winter magic is often about protection, warmth, and safety. It’s a time to create sacred space in your home, to fill your space with cozy warmth, and to use charms, spells, or rituals for protection against the harshness of the cold. Winter is a perfect time for comfort magic—spells and rituals that bring a sense of peace, safety, and healing to your home.
Winter Rituals and Spells
Candle Magic:
With long nights, candle magic is one of the most effective ways to work with the energies of winter. Lighting candles during the dark evenings can symbolize the return of light and the warmth that will eventually come with the Spring.
Solstice Rituals:
The Winter Solstice, or Yule, is one of the most powerful times of the year. It marks the shortest day and the longest night, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness. This is a powerful time for purification, setting intentions, and welcoming back the light. You can make a Yule log, set intentions for the coming year, or honor the rebirth of the sun.
Snow and Ice Magic:
Working with snow and ice brings in the cool, crisp, and cleansing energies of winter. Use snow or ice in spells for purification, protection, and slowing down the flow of time. Snow can be used to seal away negativity, while ice can represent stillness and patience.
Winter Moon Magic
The full moon during winter has a special connection to releasing and transformation. The cold, stark moonlight can illuminate what’s hidden in our hearts, allowing us to confront the shadows and release old baggage.
Connecting with Nature in Winter
Winter is a time when the world slows down, and nature presents a quieter face. In winter, the animals, trees, and plants are either dormant or hibernating, and this energy encourages you to find stillness within yourself. Spend time in nature, if you can, to witness the beauty of the stark landscapes—snow-covered fields, frost-covered trees, and the quiet of the season. Even in the harsh cold, there’s magic in the bare branches and the soft footprints left in the snow.
Winter Walks: Take walks in the snow, where you can collect nature’s offerings for your magical practice, like pinecones, branches, or seeds. The stillness of winter gives you time to observe the world in its simplest, most elemental state.
Nature Spirits: Connect with the spirits of winter—the animals, the plants, and the forces of ice and snow. Ask for guidance or help in your life and see what messages come through in the quiet of winter.
Winter Offerings
Winter is a time to give thanks to the elements that keep us warm, safe, and grounded. Consider making offerings to the spirits of winter, the gods and goddesses you work with, or nature itself. Offerings might include food, warmth, crystals, or prayers. Giving gratitude for the warmth and light in your life can strengthen your bond with the season and deepen your connection with the unseen energies around you.

Getting Back into Witchcraft After a Break
Acknowledge the Break
Before jumping back in, take a moment to reflect on why you stepped away. This isn’t about judgment but understanding.
Were you overwhelmed or burned out?
Did life demand more of your time and energy?
Were you questioning your beliefs or struggling with doubt? → Write in your journal or meditate or draw how your time away has shaped you. This can help you clarify what you want to bring back into your practice and what you’re ready to let go of.
Start with Self-Compassion Your craft doesn’t require perfection. You’re not “behind” or “out of touch.” The beauty of witchcraft is its adaptability. Be kind to yourself and resist the urge to compare your journey to others’. Recognize that even mundane experiences can be a form of magic. Reconnect with Your Why
Ask yourself what drew you to witchcraft in the first place.
Was it a love of nature?
A connection to something greater?
A desire for empowerment, healing, or self-discovery?
Rekindling your “why” can reignite your passion and help you determine what aspects of the craft to focus on first.
Start Small and Simple
Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to do all the things right away. Start with bite-sized practices:
Daily grounding: Take a few deep breaths while visualizing roots connecting you to the earth.
Light a candle: Focus on the flame as a symbol of your rekindled practice.
Morning or evening affirmations: Speak simple, empowering phrases to set your intentions for the day or night.
Observe the natural world: Notice the moon’s phase, the weather, or seasonal changes.
Small acts of magic build momentum over time.
Reassess Your Tools and Space
If you have a magical space, tools, or supplies, take stock:
Cleanse your tools: Use smoke, sound, or sunlight to refresh them.
Declutter: Let go of items that no longer resonate.
Reorganize: Arrange your space to reflect your current energy and intentions. → If your tools feel unfamiliar or you’re starting from scratch, remember you don’t need anything fancy. A notebook, a candle, and your intuition are enough.
Rebuild Your Foundations
Returning after a break is an opportunity to revisit the basics (just some options - no need or have to)
Meditation and visualization: Strengthen your focus and inner awareness.
Energy work: Practice grounding, centering, and shielding.
Correspondences: Relearn the meanings of herbs, crystals, colors, or elements that resonate with your practice.
Lunar and seasonal cycles: Reconnect with the moon phases, solstices, or festivals.
Explore What Feels Fresh
Your interests may have shifted during your break. Explore new areas of magic:
Divination: Experiment with tarot, runes, pendulums, or scrying.
Spellcraft: Try simple spells for protection, abundance, or self-love.
Nature magic: Work with seasonal energies, local plants, or animal spirits.
Deity work or spirit communication: If you work with deities, reintroduce yourself and reestablish your connection.
Follow your curiosity rather than forcing yourself to do things the “right” way.
Journal or Document Your Practice
Keeping track of your practice can help you stay engaged and reflective:
Daily reflections: Write down small magical moments or rituals.
Dream journaling: Explore messages or symbols in your dreams.
Grimoire: Update old entries or create new ones with fresh insights.
Embrace Seasonal and Cyclical Magic
The seasonal shifts are a great way to align yourself with natural energies.
Winter: Focus on rest, introspection, and shadow work.
Spring: Plant seeds of intention and engage in renewal rituals.
Summer: Embrace creativity, passion, and abundance.
Autumn: Release what no longer serves you and prepare for the darker half of the year.
Seek Community (If Desired)
If you feel isolated, reconnecting with others can inspire and motivate you:
Join online groups or forums.
Attend local witchy events, workshops, or festivals.
Share your journey with trusted friends or like-minded individuals.
Reminder: Community can be supportive, but your practice is deeply personal and doesn’t require external validation.

Guide to Protective Magic
Guide to Protection Magic
Whether you’re warding off pesky negative vibes, grounding yourself, or just setting a cozy, safe space, protection magic can be a beautiful and empowering part of your practice. Let's dive into the magic, from simple spells to everyday practices!
The Heart of Protection Magic Protection magic isn’t only about keeping bad things away; it’s also about creating a shield that nurtures, grounds, and strengthens you. Think of it as casting a warm, glowing bubble around yourself, your space, or even your loved ones. It’s the magical equivalent of a cozy blanket fort in the spirit world!
Tools of the Trade Here's a mix of some classic and fun ingredients for protection:
⟡ Salt : This humble crystal packs a punch! Salt creates strong protective boundaries, whether sprinkled around your home or used in a cleansing bath.
⟡ Herbs : Rosemary, sage, basil, and thyme are all-stars for protection. A pinch in each corner of your home or a little sachet under your pillow will do wonders.
⟡ Crystals : Black tourmaline, obsidian, and smoky quartz are grounding and absorb negativity like magical sponges. Keep one on you, tuck it in your bag, or place one near your bed.
⟡ Symbols : Sigils, pentacles, runes, and other symbols can hold powerful protective energy. Draw one on a paper, your mirror, or even make a little doodle on your wrist for a portable shield!
Everyday Protection Practices These practices are perfect for weaving protection magic into your daily routine:
⟡ Breathe with Intention : Try a breathing exercise to create a protective bubble. Picture each inhale bringing in calm, grounding energy, and each exhale pushing out negativity.
⟡ Grounding Exercises : Stand barefoot on the earth, visualize roots reaching down, and feel yourself connecting deeply with the Earth. This practice grounds and strengthens your natural energetic shield.
⟡ Morning Protective Layer : Before heading out, visualize a soft, shimmering shield around you. Picture it as a color that makes you feel safe and powerful – maybe a vibrant green, a shimmering gold, or a deep purple.
Energetic Cleansing Routines** Protection magic works best in a clear, refreshed space, so regular cleansing is key! Here are some playful ways to cleanse your space:
⟡ Cleansing with Sound : Chimes, bells, or even a clap can disrupt and clear out stale energy. Walk through your space with a bell, or sing your favorite song with gusto!
⟡ Smoke Cleansing : Use ethically-sourced sage, rosemary, or a locally gathered herb bundle. Light it, then waft the smoke through each room, visualizing it sweeping away negativity.
⟡ Sweeping Spell : Use a broom (or any sweeping tool) and visualize sweeping out all bad vibes from each room. It’s simple and symbolic – plus, it tidies up your space!
Protection as Self-Care Remember, protecting yourself energetically is an act of self-love and self-care. It strengthens your personal boundaries, honors your energy, and makes space for the things that light you up. With each spell, each charm, each shield, you’re creating a safe, magical space for you to grow

How about we let each system decide what feels best to them and stop policing systems that are already dealing with a very complex and varying disorder

Hey, magical little goblin! Whether you're out exploring the wild woods or cozying up in your mossy hideaway, remember that you're a treasure just as you are. Take a moment to nurture yourself like we goblins care for our favorite trinkets. Every step, no matter how small, is a part of your beautiful journey. Stay wild, stay soft, and never forget—you’re never alone in this enchanted forest of healing.

Reminder that people with invisible disabilities aren't the only ones who get ignored and accused of dying by doctors. People with visible and severe, even deadly disabilities aren't automatically believed. Some severely and visibly disabled people die because doctors won't believe that they're really sick, accuse them of faking or exaggerating and deny them treatment. This kind of treatment isn't unique to any one kind of disability, it's something that most or perhaps even all of us have faced at one point or another.

Since the Paralympics are happening and I’m seeing all sorts of people saying “See? This person doesn’t let their disability stop them!”
I would like you to remember that Paralympions are OLYMPIC LEVEL ATHLETES.
How would it feel if I compared your output to that of a literal olympic athlete and used that to justify not helping you or giving you what you need?
Oh, well Michael Phelps and Simone Biles can do it - why can’t you?
Thats how you sound.
