Happy New Year!!! Last year was so... Bizarrely remarkable- I haven't stopped moving, So it hasn't been able to sit with me yet! (Like I always say, that's a future journal entry- This is still a journal to me, after all-)
Still, still, thank you for being with me for so long and supporting me in the most exciting year Welcome Home will probably ever experience! Everything feels quieter, I'm very happy for the calm, haha! (There's a joke about House Parties in there somewhere!) I eat the guacamole and chip quietly with Home... I'm only kidding... I don't eat guacamole and chip and I don't know if she would like it- Anyhow!
I haven't been Able to be around for much of Last Year, I probably won't return again until the next Update too! I want to place all my time on my work- I think what a great opportunity it's been to be able to write that! Though I want to say because I haven't been able to see anything and it has been some time- I hope everyone apart of Welcome Home's community has been kind, I hope it's been very fun, and I hope it will continue to look up too as the story expands! However, I also want to say again, I hope no one is harassing each other, demeaning each other, or being rude to others on my behalf for any reason. I hope you continue to block what you don't like, and embrace and form community with what you do and to look out for one another over anything else! I apologize, too, if that has happened in my absence, I hope this year only improves. What do I hope for this year... I want to be more organized- I want to know how to be... What is it- I want to learn how to live and to live with agency! I want to strengthen my relationship with my art too- I'm excited for that one! I want to try to be better at whatever this is, too! I don't know what to call it- Whatever Welcome Home is, haha! I don't know- Have a wonderful new year! 2024- I'll talk to you all again on the next update! Or... A little prior? I will keep us updated!

Please don’t let fandom ruin something you love. Walk away and unfollow the fans and enjoy the thing by yourself, or find a limited circle of people who ignore the discourse, or get your irl friends into the thing and collectively ignore the Internet community, or blacklist from here to the moon if you need to and only ever scroll through your rarepair ship’s tag on AO3. But don’t let fandom distort a show or a movie or a book or a comic you used to love so badly that you can’t enjoy the original anymore. Please. It isn’t worth it.

I think one more thing to Enjoy is all of those RPG’s where the little Pixelated People live in a Beautiful CGI world and who All Have so much going on emotionally and Story-wise…
Whenever I hear the Companion aspects advertised as “Experience Friendships or Betrayals…” I think to myself, “I would be so devastated if one of my Medieval Guys betrayed me… We had Nicely rendered stew together in the Computer generated-Ye Olde Tavern… Why would you do this to me…”

I finally finished his outfit! And look who's here! Home!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It took a while for me to finish them (and even then I'm not completely satisfied!) However, I am happy with this little project I've done for myself. Wally and Home have each other, and they seem pretty happy and cozy in my home!
The excitement and thrill of Welcome Home has gone from a rapid boil to a slow simmer for me, and I'm okay with that. I'm a bit sad that I'm not as excited and obsessed as I was a few months ago, but I'm am grateful for being part of the experience. I got to see Welcome Home rise in popularity and see it become loved by so many! What a beautiful thing that is~! And so well-deserved too!
Right now, I consider this blog to be on semi-hiatus for the time being. I have many other projects and life things to care for in the meantime. (Like, for instance, game development! I'll be doing pixel art for a few games!) But I may still do the occasional reblog at some points and check in on random Clown posts when they come! *honk honk*
But I will say this: Welcome Home has been a wonderful experience so far. It's only just started, but it's helped me connect with new people, build self-confidence with my art, and even affirmed my identity as an autistic person! Clown and co have done beautifully, and I look forward to seeing what comes next!
Thank you for reading! ~Skye

How are we feeling about the Staff Only page???
a long time ago, i came up with a theory about how welcome home the show never actually existed. the gist of it is that there was a playfellow workshop once, and there was Extensive production work done for welcome home, but for whatever reason - interpersonal conflict, trouble with the studio or executives, both, etc. - it never made it to the air. think "paranoia agent episode 10." BUT its will to exist (or at the very least, wally's will to exist) was so strong that it manifested itself into reality anyway, even if in an incomplete form. at the time, i passed it off as a crack theory, something i came up with in the throes of hiatus brain. but when i was looking through the site again today, it was all i could think about.
in this context, welcome home is an aberration, yeah? it is specifically an Unwelcome change, and i think it's safe to say that the WHRP team knows this - at least, the ones we've seen breaking character. they can barely hold back their disgust at having to handle these materials, because they know on some base instinctual level that These Should Not Be Here, that they should not exist, despite everything else telling them that welcome home was a perfectly normal, universally beloved children's program.
is this a justified reaction on the part of the WHRP team? technically, they aren't wrong, but it doesn't seem that the neighbors are taking advantage or even aware of the fact that they're a collective anomaly. even wally seems more plainly desperate for connection rather than trying to hide an ulterior motive (although it remains to be seen if he's aware of how the WHRP team and their collaborators are being affected, or exactly How unwilling he is to accept that he's dealing with a very different audience than he was 50-ish years ago. he seems very insistent than we've seen him before.) many questions!
of course, it could also be that welcome home did air and was just subjected to some kind of antimemetic fuckery when/after it was cancelled, but that's not what the crack theory is about now is it.

On Home, Wally, and their dynamic
Warning: Big Long Post! Rambly. Speculative!
In the early days of the Welcome Home fandom, it was often speculated that Home's role in the narrative was antagonistic, one defined by coercive control and abuse of Wally. This idea of a sinister, manipulative Home has inspired many AUs, pieces of fanart and has overall made a big impression on the fandom's perspective of Home as a character.
While this still remains very possible as an outcome, especially given that the series is still in its prologue, a lot of what I've observed in the latest update has painted a very different picture in my mind.
Below are some miscellaneous observations, both from the update and from information we had prior to the update.
Wally is excited about Eddie potentially being able to lift Home in the storybook recording, as he would like Home to be able to get a hot dog from Howdy's bodega like he and Barnaby always do.
Wally speaks often of his love for Home in the guestbook, and even writes Home's signature for it at the bottom of the page.
Home is shown, in a famous piece of art on Clown's Tumblr, to be the "plus-one" Wally would invite to a wedding, and he's shown smiling fondly at it through the window of the chapel while it peers in from outside.
This piece of promotional art, as well as this crayon drawing from the April Fool's Day prank where Wally briefly took over Clown's Twitter to post his drawings, show a big Wally cradling a small Home in his arms. This is an inversion of their actual relationship, as Wally is just a little guy and Home is a great big house. In the latter drawing, Wally has obsessively written Home's name over and over again.
In the bug vignette featuring Barnaby and Home on the page with the script, Barnaby understands Home perfectly when it speaks and has a fluent back and forth with it. Its responses to him seem amused and sarcastic, and it generally looks to be having fun bantering with him and sassing him. When Barnaby becomes concerned for Wally at the end, Home's noises sound concerned and urgent, like worried questions. It's concerned for Wally's change in behavior too.
Conversely, Wally is shown in his audio excerpts from the show to be socially-awkward and unable to comprehend things like sarcasm and turns of phrase. At his best, he sounds like he's saying things he's rehearsed before. At his worst, especially in the audio messages he leaves, he struggles even to speak, as though he cannot find the right word or that speech itself is hard on him. He begins to hyperventilate and lose his grasp on proper intonation in the latter recordings, likely out of distress or frustration.
In the Morse code message on the So Below page, most people interpret what Home is saying as either "help" or "hello". The former indicates distress on its part, while the latter indicates it trying to go along with Wally, as he introduced it in the previous audio message and explained (while struggling not to hyperventilate) that it makes noises.
In the picture of Wally and Home in "So Below", Home's eye is shuddering in seeming distress while Wally is knelt at its window. Although this is commonly interpreted as an act of worship, Home does not look particularly happy or powerful here. Wally's outstretched hand may be caressing it, or otherwise trying to pat or soothe it. Wally's eyes shudder in a similar manner in the "Stay Quiet" page.
The dark substance beneath Home has begun leaking to the point that it is now visible on the desktop version of the Neighborhood page. This is very likely the same substance mentioned on the secret, staff-only page, which apparently causes "nausea, dizziness and fatigue" upon physical contact.
The impression that I've gotten from this is that Home and Wally are more akin to intimate peers – siblings, very close friends, possibly even romantic partners* – than they are to an abusive guardian and their child. Much of what I'm about to say is speculative, and may not hold up after further updates, but it's nonetheless the vibe I'm getting.
Wally and Home have a deep understanding of one another, deeper even than Wally's friendship with Barnaby. They are bound so tightly that one can scarcely exist without the other. Home shelters Wally within itself, granting him the sanctuary of its own body. Wally, in turn, grants Home a purpose as its inhabitant and tends to its needs, always making sure to help it feel included in neighborhood activities. Both are seen doting on one another with the sort of fondness only years of intimate familiarity can bring. Each is attuned to (and interested in) the other's needs.
Neither Home nor Wally are doing well at this point in the narrative. Wally is audibly deteriorating when he addresses us (or the Question-Answerer) in the audio snippets. He's barely able to keep it together, and some sort of horrific distortion is slipping into his voice. Home, meanwhile, has only seen its sludge problem get worse, and does not seem able to do much at all besides the occasional response in Morse code. These utterances are few and far between, especially compared to how chatty and lively it seemed in the Barnaby vignette. It seems withdrawn, perhaps even exhausted. It is very likely sick.
Home has, up until this point, been "the strong one" in the relationship, as a house must be. In addition to bearing up its body as shelter for Wally, it may have carried the little fellow's social burdens, as it seems to hold its own very well in conversation. But now it's fallen ill. Gravely ill. It's unable to go and look for help, being a house, and is put in a precarious situation due to its immobility. None of the other neighbors are around to help it.
Wally cares for his Home deeply. He is grateful for its shelter and its friendship. He's the only one who can help it now – it's finally his turn to be strong. He wants desperately to protect it, to find help for it, and this is what drives him to reach out. But he doesn't know how one asks for help, or how even to describe the problem. His tranquil neighborhood never made him confront that reality, and he's now left floundering. Home can only watch helplessly, through a haze of sickness, as he humiliates himself again and again in his pained, futile struggle to be understood.
It's driving him mad. It's forcing him to feel emotions he can barely describe. Every attempt only serves to further terrorize the Question-Answerer and double his own anger and misery.
But he can't stop. He must be strong for Home. He will make his neighbor understand.
So TL;DR, I see it as less "Home has Wally trapped!" or "Wally is doing something bad to Home!" and more this heartbreaking nugget from Learning With Pibby. If Home is malevolent, I think Wally's going to be right there at its side. And if he manages not to be, I think it will be a tragic effect of the corruption rather than any innate badness Home has in it. I think we are shown how wonderful and precious this Home can be so it will be all the more heart-wrenching when that is no longer the case. At any rate, I am enthralled and am so grateful to be able to engage with this wonderful piece.
*I hate that I have to even say this, but – please don't misconstrue that I think siblings and romantic partners are the same thing, or any other implication therein. I'm an eldest sibling myself and find the idea abhorrent. I say this only because relationships in a text can be very ambiguous, and there are many flavors of closeness between people that share similarities.
Anyway, thank you so much if you read this far! Welcome Home has really given me the analysis bug again... heehee, bugs.

Let's be careful before labeling Wally or Home as "The Villain" of Welcome Home
Or anyone for that matter imo
Listen, I can completely understand why people would go to that conclusion. "So Below" and the eerie vibe that Wally gives off in his obsession don't exactly give either a flattering light (I know there are also the art pieces on Clown's personal blog, but I'm not counting anything that hasn't been officially released yet)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But whenever someone labels a character who is acting weird as "the villain," it puts a bad taste in my mouth. At the end of the day, characters in fiction are real people with motivations, so labeling one as "evil" or "the villain" can sometimes erase that complexity. And after the most recent update, we know that Wally has A Lot of very, very complicated feelings about the situation.
Before I get into that though, I wanna point out something that Clown himself has said describes the brand of horror that "Welcome Home" gives off to themselves personally. Click here for the link to the post.

Tumblr media
"My home doesn't feel like home anymore."
That line sticks to me pretty hard. There's a pervasive feeling of unfamiliarity, unreality, that exists in the core of the story itself.
I think we see, firsthand, Wally experiencing this in the latest updates. In all of the hidden Bug/Answer secret videos, we see a familiar pattern. We get some sort of scene of two other characters talking, a scene in whatever universe they call home, until at the very end one of the characters addresses Wally (who was apparently there the whole time) and the video glitches out.
Tumblr media
A key part that not a lot of people seem to realize though is that these videos are from Wally's perspective. See the above picture with Wally's hands. In every scene, Wally is present and was supposedly taking part in an activity (in the above one, helping Poppy with knitting), before the video started playing.
Whenever I saw these videos I had that same feeling that something felt. Different. The interactions felt like scenes you would see in the animated/cartoony aesthetic we'd see from the various art pieces, it doesn't feel like it's "on set/TV" to me. They're moreso just intimate glimpses into their lives. But they're shot in the real world, and that feels. Wrong.
This is very likely the same feeling that Wally's having in that moment. "My home doesn't FEEL like home." It's like he's disassociating, having a brief episode of that unreality feeling. Those bouts of strangeness don't go away until, like clockwork, someone says his name and the video ends, snapping him out of it.
Do other people in the neighborhood also feel the same way? Maybe, but we don't know. What we do know is that Wally, whether or not he tries to explain this to others, feels isolated by this sensation. "My neighbors are only neighborly until they know I'm different in a way they can see."
Tumblr media
The only other person he likely shares this feeling with? I'd take a guess that it's Home. Nearly every time Home has been featured, Wally has been there, close. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the only physical puppets/props we’ve seen of the cast are Wally and Home.
Tumblr media
According to this post by @eldritchravens, Home is the only other person who talks directly to Us, the viewers. That's probably why they're so close, because they're the only ones who can truly confide in each other about this.
Tumblr media
"So does that mean Home is manipulating Wally?"
Again, I really don't think that's the case. I don't wanna call people villains quite yet. Besides, we see (or well, hear) Home and Barnaby have a conversation together, and from how Barnaby reacts it's fairly casual.
Tumblr media
This shared feeling is likely why Wally is so obsessed with us, including the Restoration Employee. They seem to be sharing a similar sensation to Wally's bouts of unreality, in the fact that it seems they're the ONLY one who doesn't remember Welcome Home being a thing. They seem to be one of the few things that Wally (and maybe even Home) consider to be "Real." Hence their obsession with "seeing" us.
Tumblr media
"Isn't this Wally or Home manipulating the Employee though?"
Maybe, I don't know. We don't really know much of what's going on right now, we're only getting glimpses. For all we know this could be a side-effect of Wally/Home trying to reach out. For the time being though, I want to keep my own expectations in check. I'm choosing not to label Wally, Home, The Restoration Team or anyone as a "villain" until something definitive comes up.
It is very, very likely that Wally is going to be doing something more dangerous later down the line (or maybe even is doing so now). But if he's doing anything, I get the feeling it's more out of desperation. He wants something to quell this feeling inside of him, this pervasive sense of unreality, and to connect with something he feels is "real." And, for better or for worse, that thing is us.
This whole thing isn't to bash on people for speculation or theorycrafting, I personally think speculation is very healthy! But it's still important to remember what the core of this story is going to be. We're only seeing the very start of the story right now, and we don't know what'll happen down the line. It's useful to keep that core idea at the center of our speculation so we can have reasonable expectations going forward.
As for me? This doesn't feel like a story with villains. I don't think he'll pull a Monika from DDLC and start gaining a kill count, but if something does happen to the rest of the cast, my money is that it'll happen completely by accident, and he'll regret it. Hard.
