“Maybe when you get off work we could go do something. Like, I don’t know––what do you like to do other than explain flower stuff? Whatever it is, we’ll do it. That way you’re not on the clock while we’re trying to relax. I’m kind of a roses guy, too. Maybe I’ll fine another kind I like at the shop. The problem is that I don’t know a ton. So, we’ll see!”

“I do love explaining flower stuff, and I do really want to spend more time with you. So, this plan seems pretty sweet. I also love coffee. Lilies and daisies ! Absolutely perfect ! I like lilies, too. They’re beautiful. What about you ? What’s your favorite flowers ?”

“Like a little vacation, that’s awesome! I bet it was a cool drive, too.” Skylar nodded, sensing a bit of nerves, maybe, in Shay’s voice, but decided not to think much about it. “Well, it’s good to have you back. People’ve missed you around here. Hey––by the way, one of your incredible parties is greatly needed some time soon.” The boy laughed, trying his best to lighten the tone of the conversation. “Mari and I are good,” he started, “happy and good.” Sky looked towards the ground for a few seconds, keeping the color from rushing to his face. “She’s just… great. I don’t know––it’s like we’re still best friends, but we get to do fun stuff, too.”

“I’ve, um–– Uh–– I was just visiting some family, y’know… Staying with my uncles in New York and stuff. S’been fun, and I drove along the east coast for a little while. Just, uh–– Spending some time out’a town, y’know? Just somethin’ different. Nothin’ major.” The words were a bit more awkward than Shay’s normal speech, but he was hoping Skylar wouldn’t really notice. “So, how’ve you been? How’s Mari, or I guess–– How’re you and Mari?” he asked trying to hopefully get the subject on something else.

“Really? I hate you.”
