thoughts on coriolanus snow’s daughter & granddaughter 

I wrote about a clytemnestra & agamemnon au earlier as it’s sort of correlated with my thoughts about coriolanus “sacrificing” his daughter for “the greater good”

firstly, I think that the woman in this photo is snow’s only daughter and that his granddaughter (the only canon descendant that we know of) is her child. 

since I think that snow married livia cardew later in life (when he’s already gained some power), it would make sense for their daughter to be an only child and relatively young at the time when snow himself is in his 80s. I think that she was livia’s darling. since childhood, she was completely under her influence, which didn’t bother snow at first as he didn’t really have much fatherly affection towards her, however when time came and he wanted to use his daughter for his plans, she wasn’t so easily convinced. which is when I think he poisoned livia. either as a revenge, as to get her out of the way or as to frighten his daughter by showing her that nothing would stop him. I don’t think that livia got to see her granddaughter. I think that snow’s daughter married a man he scared her into marrying, a man who had a child of his own already ( the other little girl in the photo that’s never around snow) and gave him a daughter. 

with a depressed and grieving mother, who was trapped in a loveless marriage, and an ambitious politically engaged father, who cared little for her, snow’s granddaughter would spend a lot of time around him. I think it appealed to him that he basically had the main parental authority in her life and therefore could easily influence her. also I once saw a tiktok comparing photos of snow’s granddaughter with livia and it makes so much sense! I can definitely see the resemblance

frankly, I love the thought of livia’s face haunting him. this way every time he looked at that child - the only living creature he had some sort of love and affection for - he saw the face of a girl who had bullied him so long ago and made his childhood miserable, the face of his unloved wife, whose death he was responsible for.

so yeah, “oh I’m gonna marry someone I hate” is all fun and games until it backfires on you!

district four thoughts ⛵️

I forgot who said this, but I saw a post a long time ago about a d4 that's not as tropical and sunny as we think it to be. california has incredibly inconsistent weather, after all!

(apologies if it's incoherent. I'm writing this while on a road trip)

mornings are cloudy and chill you to the bone. the fog is thickest around this time, dancing around the land like flowing lace. they wear their jackets around this time: thick sweaters and coats that leave them snuggled up and warm. it's usually like this around winter, too... for majority of the day, at least!

by midday, it clears up, and the sun's rays pour down over the district! the citizens of four are annoyed, having to take off their top layers and letting them hang over their arm or wrapping them around their waists. despite their mothers' protests, some kids are brave enough to wear shorts in the thick fog because it's going to "warm up later anyway".

in the winter seasons, a cool breeze would blow over the region even with the sun beating down on them, leaving citizens wondering if a jacket is truly needed or not. it's cold and hot at the same time. however will they cope!?

now I'm imagining coral or finnick having a wardrobe crisis because of the weather.

"I really wanna wear these shorts because it's cute, but it's really foggy outside today... so do I endure the cold until 1pm, or do wear pants? :("

mags is the type to wear her thick puffer jacket around his waist. annie gets upset when she has to wear a sweater over her really pretty outfit because the temp was colder than expected.

also! no one carries an umbrella there. ever. it only rains for short periods of time on normal rainy days, and struggling with/carrying an umbrella is so embarrassing anyway!!! wear a hood or NOTHING! it's not like the sensation of wetness is a foreign thing to them.

in a modern au, mizzen is the type to wear neon nike shorts on any kind of day. I'm calling it.

okay and this gave me life

some thoughts i had while thinking about college and inevitably connecting it back to my fixations as i always do:

random tbosas college au hcs!!

lucy gray would beg whichever poor soul got forced to be her roommate to push their mattresses together to make a mega bed, but she gets so cozy the first night that she sleeps through all seven of her alarms and misses like three classes.

livia, arachne, and clemensia are all insufferable sorority girls. except arachne and clemensia are super serious about it and livia is only in it for the booze and the lols. she made one joke day 1 of freshman year about being a sorority girl and ended up committing to the bit a little too hard, and now she's too far in to back out.

there's one bar off campus that all the daddy's money students (the academy mentors) started going to to escape from the weird liberal arts kids (the tributes) until one day lucy gray ends up scoring a job playing at said bar and now everyone is significantly bummed out when anyone mentions the place.

riding off of that, we all know that lucy gray is a theatre kid, but she's the most insufferable brand. she runs through the halls singing show tunes, she tries to start flash mobs in the dining hall, and if you mention it once she will not shut up about the theatre club's latest improv show. they did wicked once and she showed up to classes in full green makeup every day throughout the entirety of tech week.

not only is she the theatre kid, she's just the weird kid in general. she shows up to every 8 am class in the most insanely tacky diy outfits. more often than not, she repurposes whatever costume pieces the theatre department was throwing out. it's all craft store gemstones, hot glue, and a metric ton of puffy paint. she's also constantly conjuring flowers out of thin air it seems and passing them out as flower crowns to whoever is within a ten mile radius. mid final she just slowly passes you a whole heap of daisies weaved together and you're left like "??????"

she sets her eyes on someone and either becomes their best friend or worst nightmare.

coryo walking through the front door covered in glitter with a **very** homemade rainbow scarf forcefully tied around his neck and a flower behind his ear: TIGRIS THE WEIRD KID GOT ME ON THE WALK HOME AGAIN AND I COULDN'T OUTRUN HER

sejanus and coryo would dorm together for a total of two months before coryo decides that if he doesn't move off campus he will literally kill himself so he ends up back with tigris and commutes. he's a coward (sejanus snores).

oh god wait no is he a frat boy? i hate that image in my head. GET IT OUT!!

mizzen is significantly younger than everyone else, like 14 or something, and hangs out on campus with coral (bc in my head they're cousins or smthn) and it is quite literally the "uhhhh want a beer?" "HE'S FOUR!!" meme. nobody knows what to do with him. he's just sitting there with an ipad and a yoohoo living his best life until coral makes him do his homework.

coryo fails a situationship twice a week and everyone clowns on him constantly for never being able to get out of the talking stage. one day he's showing up to lucy gray's shows and the next he's ducking behind cars in the parking lot so she doesn't see him. one day he's making out with livia at a party and the next he's crying on the floor while clemensia pats him on the back because nobody loves him. one day he's genuinely hooking up with sejanus and the next he's pretending he was drunk so he can act like he doesn't remember. boo you whore!!! men will do anything BUT therapy.

sejanus is that one kid whose mom is always on campus for some reason and just chilling in their dorm. they're knitting sweaters and watching friends, leave them alone!!

clemensia would be the ra that everyone hates because she would absolutely snitch on your ass to look good, meanwhile lamina is the ra that everyone loves because she's just in it for the free room and is too tired to hunt anyone down for breaking the rules. work smarter, not harder.

reaper is also a weird kid, but in the mysterious artist who just glares at people from across the dining hall and sketches angrily kinda way. he and lucy gray are besties because i said so. he's teaching her how to paint in exchange for guitar lessons, except she can only finger paint and he's left handed and can hardly play her guitar comfortably.

treech and lamina were that one couple that picked the same college during their honeymoon phase in high school and travelled together except it absolutely ruined their relationship and now they hate each other. if you're a girl's girl, though, you take lamina's side because she does no wrong (totally not because she lets you sneak pot into the dorm as long as she "can't see it" so she doesn't have to do a whole night's worth of paperwork).

coral and lucy gray have been dating for half of a semester but pretend to hate each other when they're in public simply for the bit. they're faking petty cat fights, they're glaring at each other in the hallways, but really they're smoochin behind the scenes. they just think they're funny.

it's 5 am and i need to SLEEP but please drop any other headcanons you have about this batshit au because I would love to see them. i'm sure this will make no sense when i reread it in the morning, but trust that i will revisit this subject because them just being normal teenagers is always so funny to me.

something about "the old therebefore" shakes me to my very core. the scene of it (with the snakes surrounding lucy gray and covering the bodies of all of the other dead tributes) makes me so sick, and the act of singing to their dead bodies about how they're going to heaven and she's not quite there yet is so sad. the acapella version is just as (if not more) bone-chilling as the original.

ok you know while technically the tributes of the tenth hunger games had no context of who coryo would become and up until that point, he was actually innocent (was he a horrible conniving self interested person absolutely but no one in that car had any way of knowing that)... it made sense how reaper reacted to his presence. they're a bunch of district children sitting in a train car, pressed together like cattle, treated like animals, being starved/crammed in a pen fit for wild animals and sent to die, all of them obviously pretty miserable knowing that either they die or kill one another, and then this pretty blond boy with a fancy suit waltzes in, someone who they know is certainly not a district kid, hasn't suffered like they have, and by his mannerisms/dress/attitude is probably one of the upper class capitol elite people that will profit from and be entertained by their misery... if i was reaper or coral or any of those other kids i would have been ready to throw hands too

katniss literally calls the career districts the capitol's lapdogs (this is mostly her aggravation towards the tributes who are obnoxious and her most dangerous/direct opponents, so it was easier to hate them because they were easier/closer targets and hating the capitol openly the way gale does is a death sentence, but that's not important rn) and yet: district four was openly in rebellion after her games. so was district one. literally every district, even d1 and d4, the supposed "lapdogs" according to katniss, declared war against the capitol in mockingjay and were openly anti-capitol in their actions. so even if the career districts are in fact the capitol's favorites, d1 and d4 clearly were not content with snow's regime.

the only true career district that stayed loyal, despite the fact that their children die too as much as those from any other district? district two. district one and four apparently (at least, from katniss's pov) receive the same benefits as d2, yet they were bold enough to rise up against the capitol regardless. so what's the difference?

it most probably has to do with sejanus and the lessons snow took from that tragic death. snow has personal experience with district two people, he watched a boy from d2 adhere to his principles, openly defy the games, and reject the wealth and opportunity he had been given despite his animal-adjacent District status (snow's words) that snow believed he should be grateful for. he watched that d2 boy hate what the capitol does so much that he was willing to rebel, and that boy got hung for it, at snow's discretion. then snow profited off of that boy's family's grief by deceiving and manipulating them.

the point is, he knows from personal experience the dangers that d2 people and their convictions possess that harms snow's philosophy of power. he literally saw it happen. yes, d1 and d4 get preferential treatment as well (d1 supplies the cosmetics/luxury and also it as well as d2 literally surround the capitol according to a map i saw online, so they pose the most threat). but they still rebelled anyways six decades later. d2 stayed loyal to snow because whatever his strategy was between the 10th games and the 74th, whatever he gave to d2, clearly it worked out so well that instead of moral and kind and justice-driven people like sejanus, d2 gave panem bloodthirsty murderous children like cato and clove.

even the original career tributes (coral, mizzen, tanner) weren't nearly so crazed and violent and enthusiastic about their violence as the d2 tributes, and d2 had little to no advantage in the earlier hunger games which means that career tribute culture that we see in the 74th and 75th games obviously hadn't developed yet. so the fact that d2, and its children, grew so powerful during the next six decades can almost directly be traced to snow's desire to prevent a man like sejanus from ever returning to d2.
