so this game is really fucking good but i've already yapped HABIT's ear off about that so imma talk about my tav instead. appearance-wise she was just a self insert for a bit until I changed it and came up with smth lmao. i don't know shit about baldur's gate or general dnd lore so i'm coming up with a backstory as i play. her name's briar :] ive started act 3 but I haven't gotten to the netherstones yet

alright! so! human oath of devotion paladin. thinking she became a paladin at like 15 or smth young so she didn't really fully consider if she's cut out for it. like a spur of the moment "i have witnessed something terrible and never want that to happen again" that she means with her whole chest (and still does). the whole "wants to save everyone" trope with added holiness. but then "oh no the world sucks and saving everyone isn't all it's cracked up to be but i'm in a bit of a bind with this whole oath thing." i don't imagine her community offers any sympathy either, instead pushing her to keep going bc it benefits them like reputation wise or whatevs. they send her out for weeks at a time, answering cries for help, and each time she returns a little sourer and the community expecting more

then one day. oh no! the weekly breakdowns and nights spent crying yourself to sleep and the blood that won't wash out from your fingernails becomes too much and you're only in your mid 20s. so you flee and decide to help others far away from them. you flee and then you wake up on a nautiloid ship with a tadpole in your head

from there she's doing OK because she has companions with her, but all the blood is still a bit much and she's slipping. maybe someone catches her trying desperately to scrub her hands clean in the river until they bleed raw. maybe she likes that being a paladin means her holy light can ward away the darkness, so entering the shadow cursed lands terrifies bc it doesn't work. then once she defeats ketheric she realises "yknow what maybe I can do this" and stops being so tense all the time

also romances karlach bc a. is attracted to her (me too) and b. karlach is the kind of person she wishes she could be (not bound by oath but still helping people and so full of love for life. would she help if not for her oath?)

when I was younger they were airing a season of big brother with like a "awesome people VS fucking losers" theme or smth. one of the participants was a guy on the loser side who no one liked at all and no one wanted to pair up with him for any activity. one of the things he did that was a reason for no one liking him was that he like plucked his loose eyelashes out (as opposed to letting them fall naturally) for some reason I don't remember but no one was a fan of that. anyway you'll never guess what I did for several years until probably my mid teens or smth after watching that episode

had karlach, shadowheart and astarion in my party exploring the wizard tower in the underdark, and astarion got stuck down on a balcony bc he couldn't make the jump back up. men are useless
